Julia Iola Jerrells
Homemaker
Julia Iola Jerrells, 75, of Cross City died Friday, March 12, 2010. Mrs. Jerrells was born on March 24, 1934, in Otis.
She was a homemaker and a mother whose greatest joy was taking care of her family. She was a member of the Cross City Assembly of God and also attended Pentecostal Holiness Church with her daughter.
She is survived by her husband, Morris Jerrells of Cross City; sons, Nathan Jerrells of Cross City, Randy Jerrells of Old Town, Manuel Jerrells of Cross City and Vince Jerrells of Cross City; daughter, Martha Murray of Cross City; brothers, O.J. Bell, Donald Bell and Chandler Bell, all of Jacksonville; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her sons, Robert and Daniel Jerrells.
A visitation was held Saturday, March 13, at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 14, at the Rick Gooding Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Richardson officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Old Town.
Arrangements were placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City.

Dawn Onnoruth Jones
Accountant
Dawn Onnoruth Jones, 54, of Cross City died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Hospice of the Tri-Counties in Chiefland.
Ms. Jones moved to Cross City in January of 2009 from Clayton, Ga. She was a hairdresser for 28 years. She later returned to school to obtain her Bachelor's degree in accounting. She enjoyed sewing and crafts and flower arranging. She was a Baptist.
Ms. Jones is survived by her aunt, Helen Osborne of Mountain City, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m. at the home of Gail McMurry in Cross City.
Arrangements were placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City.

W. R. Meeks Jr.
W. R. Meeks Jr., 80, of Ocoee, formerly of Cross City, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, after a long illness. He was born on July 27, 1929 in Dowling Park, and lived in Cross City until he was married 63 years ago to Betty Sue Wiggins.
He was a professional long distance truck driver, retiring from Crown Cork and Seal after 21 years and then Super Food Service, Inc. after 13 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and other outdoor activities, traveling and spending time with his family. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Sue Wiggins Meeks of Ocoee; children, Jean C. Barnhill (Tom) of Ocoee, William F. Meeks (Patricia) of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, and Howard Dale Meeks of Ocoee; brothers, Claude, Cazzie and Ricky Meeks; sisters, Virginia Cope and Selma Traywick; grandchildren, Amy Barnhill, Bill Meeks, Amanda Harriet, William Meeks, Christina Meeks and Charles Meeks; great grandchildren, Ashley, Will, Alycia, Chelsi, Brianna, Brittney, Dennis, Jr, Elizabeth, Sophie, and Amber and a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 12, at Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Barnhill officiating. Burial followed at Cross City Cemetery. A visitation was held Friday evening, June 11 at the funeral home.
Arrangements were placed under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City.

Lois Louise Roberts Redding
Lois Louise Roberts Redding was born in Key West, Florida, on October 2, 1916, and passed away on September 29, 2005, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cameron, Missouri.
Mrs. Redding grew up in Key West and Miami, Florida, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. She attended Southeastern Bible Institute and Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida, and married Joseph Randall Redding, a fellow student in 1950. Mrs. Redding graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1951 with a B.A. in Bible. She served with her husband as Assembly of God pastors in Virginia, Tennessee and Florida and taught school in Jennings, Jasper and Cross City, Florida from 1963 through the 1970's. She and her husband spent their retirement years traveling the United States until their health declined.
Mrs. Redding is survived by her two daughters: Kathy Redding and Barbara Bohall, both of St. Joseph, Missouri; four grandchildren: Joshua, Shawn, Cody, and Mary Bohall; her sister, Mary Couch of Montrose, Colorado; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994.
The Memorial Service will be held at First Assembly of God, Hwy. 351, Cross City, Florida, on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at 4 p.m.
Rick Gooding Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LAWRENCE “LARRY” L. RIDAUGHT
LAWRENCE “LARRY” L. RIDAUGHT of Old Town passed away Friday, January 6, 2006 at the TriCounty Haven Hospice House in Chiefland. He was 72. Born in Johson, Florida, Mr. Ridaught is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rachel Ridaught of Old Town, Sons, Paul Ridaught (Tammi) of Old Town and Craig Ridaught of Alachua and Richard Ridaught of Melrose; Sister, Pauline Pellicer of Palatka; and grandchildren, Travis and Kaylee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Leila Ridaught, sister Opal Price , and brother, Kyle Ridaught. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 2 pm at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Keith officiating. Burial will follow at Old Town Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Funeral Home Monday evening, January 9, 2006 between the hours of 6 and 8 pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Jordan Klausner Foundation, 2332 NW 40th Place, Gainesville, FL 32605. www.jordanklausnerfoundation.org . for special needs children or the TriCounty Hospice House, 311 NE 9th Street, Chiefland, Florida 32626. Arrangements have been placed under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida.

Alvin Powell Of Florida
Dies February 3
FLORIDA, Feb. 12 – Alvin Powell, of Old Town, Florida, died in his home on Tuesday, February 3, 2009. He was born in Halifax County on August 17, 1938.
Mr. Powell enlisted in the United States Army for three years and was the owner and operator of Powell Fence Company for over 30 years in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bascomb Prible and Katie Jennings Powell, and a sister, Edith Wade.
Survivors include four children, Alvin B. Powell, Rebecca F. Powell, Rhonda Anderson and husband, Jay, and Lisa Tillman, six grandchildren, and a sister, Loveline Alls, all of Virginia.
A memorial service is scheduled for later.
Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Florida, is assisting the family.

Clara Venice Banks, 70
Mrs. Clara Venice Banks of Marshall, Texas passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2003 in Cross City. She was 70.
Mrs. Banks moved to Cross City from Marshall, TX. in June 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Ronney Rodgers Banks, Cross City; daughter, Christy (Larry) Keen, Cross City; brother, Ted Fries, Kerrville, TX; sister, Lanora Rosser, Timpson, TX.; two grandchildren, Kristopher and Kameron Keen.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to P.O. Box 1836, Cross City, FL. 32628. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Marshall, TX.
Arrangements are under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City.

Walter Lee Weeks, 83
Mr. Walter Lee Weeks of Old Town passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 83.
Mr. Weeks was born and raised in Chiefland. He moved to Plant City in 1945 after serving in the Army. He entered the Army at the age of 21 and served in a Combat Engineering Company for four years. During that time he received a Purple Heart.
He raised his family in Plant City where he operated a crane for the Davis Phosphate Company. After retirement, he returned to Chiefland and later moved to Old Town. He attended the First Baptist Church in Old Town.
Survivors include: his wife, Annie M. Weeks of Old Town; a son, Bobby Weeks of Old Town; two daughters, Rita Rogers of Plant City and Linda Burton of Tallahassee; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at the New Prospect Cemetery in Cross City.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rick Gooding Funeral Home in Cross City.
