Nora Belle Futch
Ms. Nora Belle Futch passed away on August 29, 2004, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. She was 70 years of age. Ms. Futch was born in Branford, FL. She lived in Birmingham, AL, for the past 30 years before moving back to the Cross City area. She attended the Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham; AL. Ms. Futch raised poodles, loved spending time in the outdoors and gardening. She was an avid Elvis memorabilia collector.
Ms. Futch is survived by her sons, Joseph Richard Futch of Honolulu, HI, Kord Gerald Futch of Verbena, AL, and Kory Lee Futch of Birmingham, AL; daughter Kimberly Michelle Futch of Tuscaloosa, AL; brothers, Frank Sheppard and Edward Sheppard, both of Cross City, FL; she had one grandchild, Brian. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Sheppard; sisters, Bebble Dunn and Alma Roberts.
A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at 3:00 PM at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike McClemore officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, FL, Hwy 19, (352) 498-5400.
Albert “Big Josh” Garner
Mr. Albert “Big Josh” Garner passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at the Cross City Rehab in Cross City, FL. He was 77.
Mr. Garner was a lifetime resident of Levy County. He served as a barber in Chiefland for 30 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Union Church of Christ in Chiefland and served in the US Navy during WWII.
Mr. Garner was a member of the Shrine Club of Jacksonville, FL; Scottish Rite in Ocala, FL; Masonic Lodge #51 in Chiefland, FL; Past President of the Chiefland Lions Club; Past Commander of the VFW Post #5625 in Chiefland, FL; and served as an Auxiliary Deputy with the Levy County Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include his son Joshua Garner of Old Town, FL; daughter Karen Mayo of Chiefland, FL; brothers, Dick Garner of Bronson, FL and Tom Garner of Chatsworth, GA; sisters, Marie Touchton of Gainesville, FL and Geraldine Dennison of Odessa, FL; and 3 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his former wife Carole Stanley Garner.
A Memorial Service was held Sunday, August 29, 2004 at 4:00 PM at the Charles Strickland Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bobby Lindsay officiating.

Mary “ME Frierson” Russ
Ms. Mary “ME Frierson” Russ passed away on August 26, 2004 at her residence in Old Town, Florida. She was 75 years of age. Ms. Russ was born in the old school in Seven Springs, FL, on August 7, 1929. She was a 4th generation Florida Cracker. She was a head cheerleader for Gulf High School in 1947. Ms. Russ was self employed and live din Pasco County. She moved to Dixie County in 1980, where she owned and operated the Brown Jug till 1989 when she retired. She was an active member of Calvary Temple Church, a devoted Christian.
Ms. Russ is survived by her brother RL Frierson of Georgia; sons, Eddie (Dana) Russ of New Port Richey, FL, Jimmy Russ of Cedar Key, FL; daughters, Dianne (Ben) Buck of Cross City, FL, Marica (Don) Reynolds of New Port Richey, FL; grandchildren, Danielle (Jim) Hatch of Old Town, FL, Debra Russ La Fave of Palm Harbor, FL, Sgt. Dawn (“T”) Coffey Thomas serving our country in Iraq, Sarah Reynolds of New Port Richey, FL; great-grandchildren, Shana and Edmond Cooper, Jordan and Ebony Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Russ; mother Willie Maud Frierson; brothers, WD “Bucker” Frierson, and J.C. Frierson.

Joyce Helen Bryan
Ms. Joyce Helen Bryan passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. She was 69 years of age. Ms. Bryan was a lifetime resident of the Tri-County area and attended the Cross City Church of Christ.
Ms. Bryan is survived by her daughters, Elaine Hines of Cross City, FL, Dorothy McColskey of Ocala, FL, Karen Valentine and Christy Brown, both of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Robin Chairs of Old Town, FL; sisters, Edith Dees of Jacksonville, FL, Pauline Coleman of Gainesville, FL, Barbara Downing and Carol Potter, both of Cross City, FL; brother Jerry Hilliard of Glen St. Mary, FL; she has 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Hilliard Jr., sisters, Ginger Lindsey and Rachel Roberts.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at 10:00am at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Gordon Dasher officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Cemetery in Trenton, FL. A visitation was held on Tuesday, September 14, 2004, between the hours of 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Deborah Jean Mikell
Ms. Deborah Jean Mikell passed away on September 8, 2004 at her residence in Augusta, Georgia. She was 48 years of age. Ms. Mikell was an accountant and attended the Lydia Baptist Church in Cross City, Florida.
Ms. Mikell is survived by her parents, Charles Byerly and Dorothy Carter; son David Micah (Micalea) May of Old Town, FL; daughter Kristan (Edward) Holifield of Old Town, FL; brother Lonnie Whitman of Illinois; she has one grandchild.
A funeral service was held on Monday, September 13, 2004 at 11:00am at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Robson officiating. A visitation was held on Sunday, September 12, 2004 between the hours of 5:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.

Sara Lorine Johnson
Sara Lorine Johnson of Branford died Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at Lake City Medical Center, Lake City, Florida, after an extended illness. She was 58.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Live Oak and was a lifelong resident of the Branford area. She was a homemaker. She was a Baptist, and a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #112 in Branford.
Survivors include her husband, Scott Johnson of Branford; a daughter Laura Byrd of Branford; sons, Dale Kinsey and Darrell Kinsey, both of Branford; a sister Irene Valentine of Cross City; brothers J.M. Holtzclaw of O’Brien and Roger Holtzclaw of Branford; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 25, 2004 at True Life Pentecostal Church, Beachville, Florida. Interment followed in Meadowrose Cemetery, Branford, Florida.

Angela Lucille Lasco
Mrs. Angela Lucille Lasco passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville, FL. She was 79 years of age. Mrs. Lasco was a former cashier for Ray’s Foodlane. She moved from Bushnell, FL, to Cross City 24 years ago, and was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lasco is survived by her husband, Richard Lasco of Cross City, FL; sons, Michael Stevens of Sparks, NV, and Richard William Lasco of Seattle, WA; daughters, Diana Downing of Cross City, FL, Peggy Smith of Titusville, FL, and Kellie Heffernan of Camarillo, CA; brother Cary Stanaland of Knoxville, TN; sister Ethel Strange of Orlando, FL. Son, Mitch Stevens, preceded her in death. She has 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, September 19, 2004, at 3:00pm at the New Prospect Baptist Church, with Rev. Billy Robson and Rev. David Downing officiating. Burial followed at the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation was held on Saturday, September 18, 2004, between the hours of 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.
