John Hardy Mitchell
Mr. John Hardy Mitchell of Lake City, Florida passed way Friday, September 24, 2004 after a long illness. He was 80 years old. Born in Jones County, Mississippi, Mr. Mitchell moved to Lake City from Cross City in December 2001. He moved to Cross City in 1956 from Mississippi where he retired after 40 years from Continental Turpentine as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church
of Cross City.
He is survived by his wife Opal Mitchell of Lake City; son John Kenneth Mitchell of Missouri; daughter Linda Mitchell Delaney of Lake City; sister Mary Jane Trest of Mississippi; 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mr. Mitchell were held Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 10:00 am at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jake Cravey officiating. Burial followed at Cross City Cemetery. A visitation was held at the funeral home Saturday evening between the hours of 6 and 8 pm Saturday, September 25th.
Arrangements have been placed under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.

Robert Joe Padilla
Mr. Robert Joe Padilla, a retired steel worker passed away in New Orleans, LA on September 26, 2004. He was 71 years of age. Mr. Padilla was originally from Ft. Myers. He was a former resident of Bell, FL, and Cross City, FL. He moved to New Orleans where he lived for a year and a half. Mr. Padilla attended the Celebration Church of New Orleans. He was a four-year veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Padilla is survived by his wife, Zora Padilla of New Orleans, LA; daughter Vicki Watson of New Orleans, LA; son Terry Padilla of McManville, TN; brother Frank Padilla of Bell, FL, Bill Padilla of Chiefland, FL, and Jack Padilla of Grandberry, TX; sisters, Margie Schankle of Bell, FL, Doris Seals of Chiefland, FL, and Rosalee Peiffer of Live Oak, FL. His son, Michael Padilla and brothers, Bubby Padilla, JR. and Ray Padilla, preceded him in death.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at 3:00 pm at the Sonshine Memorial Cemetery in Bell, Florida, with Dennis Watson officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home in Cross City, FL, US Hwy. 19, (352) 498-5400.

Albert Schley Dorsey
Mr. Albert Schley Dorsey passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2004, at his residence in Old Town, FL. He was 66 years of age. Mr. Dorsey lived in the Tri-County area for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, his grandchildren and family.
Mr. Dorsey is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Dorsey of Old Town, FL; sons, John Henry Dorsey of Old Town, FL, and Albert Schley Dorsey, Jr. of Fanning Springs, FL; daughters, Sonya Tracie Davis of Wilcox, FL, and Janice Elaine McLeod of Bell, FL; brother Wallace Dorsey of Brunswick, GA; sisters Willa Gene Broyles of Pensacola, FL, Jeri Hand of Dodd City, TX, and Lataine Barlow of Newman, GA; he has 11 grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at 2:00pm at the Old Town Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Tanner officiating. A visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home in Cross City, FL, US Hwy 19, (352) 498-5400.

Betty Lou Gassett
Mrs. Betty Lou Gassett of Cross City passed away Saturday, October 9, 2004 at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness. She was 63. A lifetime resident of Dixie County, Mrs. Gassett was the owner and operator of the Cypress Inn Restaurant for many years. Mrs. Gassett was a member of the Cross City Church of God.
Mrs. Gassett is survived by her children, Darlene (Walter) Freeman of Cross City, D.H. Higginbotham of Cross City, Daryle (Shannon) Higginbotham of Cross City and Betty Jo (Larry) Collins of Cobbtown, GA; brothers, John Rollison, Jr. Rollison, Bob Rollison, J.W. “Ned” Rollison, Bill Rollison all of Cross City and Howard Rollison of Sebring; sisters, Aretha Osteen, Juanita Huggins, Gladys Rollison, Mary Paulk all of Cross City, Dora Lewis and Cora Volmer both of Kansas City; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gassett were held Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at 3:00pm at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edward Ivey and Rev. Dewayne Bowdoin officiating. Burial followed at Cross City Cemetery. A visitation was held at the funeral home Monday evening, October 11, 2004 between the hours of 6 and 8 pm.
Arrangements have been placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.

Edna Riffle
Ms. Edna Riffle passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2004 in Bradenton, Florida. She loved to play Bingo at the Cross City VFW and Forest Hills.
Ms. Riffle is survived by her daughters, Nancy Bryant of Old Town, FL, Joyce Toler of Bradenton, and Christine McLeod also of Bradenton, Fl; and one son Larry Parks of Myakka City.
Services and interment were held at Griffin & Cline in Ellenton, FL.

Daphna Loretta Hand
Daphna Loretta Hand
Mrs. Daphna Loretta Hand of Old Town passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 70 years of age. Mrs. Hand was born in LaMesa, TX and lived in Bakersfield, CA before moving to this area in 1983. She spent her life serving others. She worked 29 years as an adoptions worker in Kern County, CA and retired from the Department of Children and Families in 1997, where she worked as a developmental services counselor for the Tri-County area. She was also a volunteer for the Children's Table. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and spending summers traveling with her grandchildren. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Doyle Hand of Old Town; daughters, Kathy Culhane of Quincy, CA, Cheryl Twombly of Chiefland, and Suzanne Goss of Old Town; brother, Bee Oneil of Bakersfield, CA; and 3 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.

William Francis Hines
William Francis Hines
Mr. William Francis Hines of Ft. White passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2005 in Quincey, Florida as a result of a traffic accident. He was 46. Born in Perry, Mr. Hines lived in Steinhatchee before moving to Ft. White. He was a boat captain for an oil company.
Mr. Hines is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hines of Ft. White; Mother, Dorothy H. Hines of Steinhatchee; children, Joey Hines and Chelsi Harris of Ft. White and Tara Powell of Lake City; brother, Arthur Sidney Hines; nieces, Cindy Hines and Deloris Morgan Hines; and granddaughter Trinity Eve Powell. He is preceded in death by his father, Buster Hines.
A visitation was held at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Saturday, August 13, 2005 between the hours of 6 and 8 pm.
Arrangements are under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.
