Elisha Smith Jr.
Mr. Elisha Smith Jr., age 85, of Cross City passed away October 13, 2005 at his home. He was born in Hattiesburg, MS but lived in this area all of his life. Mr. Smith was a retired truck driver and a member of Faith Baptist Church.
He is survived by sons, A.J. Smith of Chiefland, FL and Mike Smith of Sylvester, GA; daughters, Pamela Rimes and Stephanie Swails both of Cross City, FL; brothers, James E. Smith and Melvin Smith both of Hattiesburg, MS; sister, Agnes Cull of Ann Arbor, MI; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Lois Louise Roberts Redding
Lois Louise Roberts Redding was born in Key West, FL on October 2, 1916, and passed away September 29, 2005 at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cameron, MO.
Lois grew up in Key West and Miami, FL; served in the U.S. Navy 1943-1945; attended Southeastern Bible Institute and Florida Southern College, Lakeland, FL, marrying Joseph Randall Redding, a fellow student, in 1950; graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1951 with a B.A. in Bible; served with her husband as Assemblies of God pastors in Virginia, Tennessee and Florida; and taught school in Jennings, Jasper, and Cross City, FL from 1963 - 1970's. Lois and Randall spent their retirement years traveling the U.S. until their health declined.
Lois is survived by her two daughters: Kathy Redding and Barbara Bohall, both of St. Joseph, MO; four grandchildren: Joshua, Shawn, Cody, and Mary Bohall; her sister Mary Couch, Montrose, CO; and many nephews, nieces, cousins & in-laws.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband in 1994.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Assembly of God, Hwy. 351, Cross City, FL, Saturday, October 22, 2005,4:00 p.m.

Merle Constance Lord
Mrs. Merle Constance Lord of Old Town passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Shands at University of Florida. She was 81 years old. She was born in Arline, Florida but had lived in Dixie County most of her life and was a member of the Trenton Church of God.
She is survived by sons, James Lord (Barbara) of Cross City and Gerald Lord (Debbie) of Old Town; one daughter, Jackie Hooper (Billy) of Old Town; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Lord and sons, Lonnie Ward and Ervin Lord.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lord were held Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Jackie Pettrey and Rev. Dewayne Bowdoin officiating. Burial followed at Summerville Cemetery at New Prospect Baptist Church. A visitation was held Friday, October 15, 2005 at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home.

William Archer Laursen, Sr.
William Archer Laursen, Sr., 64, went home to the happy hunting grounds in the sky on October 10, 2005, where there are 10 point bucks everywhere, his eyesight is 20/20 again, and his fleet of foot has returned.
Bill was born in Dunedin, Florida and was a carpenter in Pinellas County until he retired to Old Town in 1987. He is deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Lesley; three sons, Bill Jr. of Tarpon Springs, Scott of New Port Richey and Mike of San Diego, CA; a sister, Annette of Enigma, GA and eight grandchildren.

Jeanette Marie Bowers
Mrs. Jeanette Marie Bowers of Dowling Park, Florida passed away Saturday, October 15, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center in Dowling Park. She was 93 years old. Mrs. Bowers moved to Dowling Park from Steinhatchee and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Durden (Tommy) of West Union, West Virginia; son, Richard Todd (Roberta) of West Union, West Virginia; 4 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Bowers.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bowers were held Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 2PM at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Coward officiating. Burial followed at Waters Memorial Cemetery in Steinhatchee. A visitation was held Tuesday, October 18, 2005 between the hours of 6 and 8PM at the funeral home.

Mary Mae Butler Slocum
Mary Mae Butler Slocum, 99, of Gainesville, Florida passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center where she had been for years. She was born in Dixie County and came here from Jacksonville, FL 55 years ago. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by her son, Harlan D. “H.D.” Pope of Gainesville, FL; brother, Blaine Butler of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Dora Valentine of Horseshoe Beach, FL; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Walter John Seeley
Walter John Seeley of Old Town passed away Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the VA Hospital in Lake City. He was 89 years old. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Mr. Seeley moved here in 1978 from Zephyrhills, FL and was a mine driller in the Titanium industry.
He is survived by his wife, Libby Rose Seeley of Old Town; daughters, Sara Lee Hill of Bendersville, PA and Mimi Collins of Paris, TN; step-sons, Donald Welsch of Zephyrhills, FL, Michael Welsch of Dade City, FL, Terrance Welsch of Alturas, FL; step-daughters, Deborah Wine of Lake Wales, FL, Jean Hand of Old Town, FL; 6 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.

Edward Denver Butcher
Mr. Edward Denver Butcher passed away on June 10, 2004, at his residence in Old Town, FL. He was 71 years of age. Mr. Butcher moved to Old Town in 1984 from Nashville, IN., where he was a truck driver. He was also a member of the United Family Worship Center in Old Town, FL.
Mr. Butcher is survived by his wife, Marie Butcher of Old Town, FL; sons Albert Denver Butcher of Bristol, FL, Robert Alan Hillenburg of Bloomington, IN, and Scott Hillenburg of Cross City, FL. He has 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at 11:00 am, at the United Family Worship Center in Old Town, FL, with Rev. Gary Hatcher officiating. A visitation was held on Saturday, June 12, 2004, between the hours of 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home.
