Lawrence L. Ridaught
Mr. Lawrence “Larry” L. Ridaught of Old Town passed away Friday, January 6, 2006 at the Tri-County Haven Hospice House in Chiefland. He was 72. Born in Johnson, Florida, Mr. Ridaught moved here in 1964 from Hawthorne. He spent 42 years in forestry management with Owens-Illinois, Nekoosa Packaging and retiring from Georgia Pacific Corp. in 1995. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cross City.
Mr. Ridaught is survived by his wife of 51 years Rachel Ridaught of Old Town; sons, Paul Ridaught (Tammi) of Old Town and Craig Ridaught (Tammy) of Newberry; brothers, John Ridaught of Hawthorne, Jerome Ridaught of Alachua and Richard Ridaught of Melrose; sister, Pauline Pellicer of Palatka; and grandchildren, Travis and Kaylee. He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Leila Ridaught, sister Opal Price and brother Kyle Ridaught.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 2 pm at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Kieth officiating. Burial followed at Old Town Cemetery. A visitation was held at the Funeral Home Monday evening, January 9, 2006 between the hours of 6 and 8 pm.

Pollye Sauls Renney
Pollye Sauls Renney, 92, of St. Petersburg died December 28, 2005. Mrs. Renney was born in Branford. She was pre-deceased by her husband Arthur M. Renney. Her parents were Lucinda (Ward) Sauls and Levi Sauls of Cross City.
Survivors include her brother-in-law Oliver W. Bailey of St. Petersburg and many nieces and nephews including Colleen Wells, Shiela Frierson and Susan Lamb all of Cross City.
Mrs. Renney was a WAVE during WWII. She moved to St. Petersburg over 50 years ago and was a dental hygienist for the Veterans Administration for 25 years, retiring in 1967. A former member of the Jungle Terrance Neighborhood Association and CONA, she was instrumental in many improvements in the area. Interment was at Old Town Cemetery with Reverend Jake Cravey officiating.
Marie Josephine Sherrill
Marie Josephine Sherrill of Horseshoe Beach died Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. She was 79 years old. Mrs. Sherrill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Horseshoe Beach, Fl, a homemaker and mother. She moved here in 1975 from Montana.
She is survived by two daughters; Becky McCall of Monticello, Mississippi and Ruth E. Forehand of Jayess, Mississippi and six sons; Robert Sherrill of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, William Sherrill of Grand Bay, Alabama, Mark Sherrill of New Market, Virginia, John Sherrill of Horseshoe Beach, Florida, Wayne Sherrill of Lincoln, Montana and Mike Sherrill of Victor, Montana; 40 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sherrill were held Friday, October 21, 2005 at 6PM at the Church of Jesus Christ in Horseshoe Beach, with Bro. James Butler officiating. A visitation was also held Friday, October 21, 2005 at the church. Mrs. Sherrill was buried Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at the Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton, Montana at 2:00 pm.

William Henry Smith
William (Billy) H. Smith, of O’Brien, FL, died on September 29, 2005. He was the son of Vera Albritton Smith and Fred Smith, Jr., both deceased. He is grand parents were William Henry Albritton and Hattie Dempsey Albritton, both descendents of two Dixie County pioneer families. Mr. Smith was born May 20, 1949 in Jacksonville, FL. He was raised there and later moved to O’Brien, FL where he resided for more than 20 years.
Mr. Smith was seriously injured and disabled in 1968 during the Viet Nam War while serving in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, as well as two siblings, Michelle Smith Cason, a former resident of Dixie County and Johnny Smith, of O’Brien, FL. He is survived by brothers, Dewayne Smith of Jacksonville, Joe Smith of O’Brien, and his beloved cousin, June Weeks Hill, formerly of Dixie County and now residing in Tallahassee, FL. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jesse Andrew Dunnam Sr.
Mr. Jesse “Andrew” Dunnam Sr. of Cross City passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the Tri-County Hospice Care Center in Chiefland, Fl. He was 59 years old. Mr. Dunnam moved here in 1959 from Mississippi.
He was a member and Deacon of the Scrub Creek Baptist Church. He also served as Interim Pastor at Scrub Creek Baptist Church. He was the former Pastor of Walker Creek Baptist Church in Lafayette County and Supply Pastor for Lafayette Baptist Association. He was the Director of the Back Yard Bible Club for Lafayette Baptist Association and worked with the United Christian Services. Mr. Dunnam drove a school bus for both Dixie and Gilchrist Counties for 15 years and served as custodian at Ruth Rains Middle School in Cross City.
He is survived by his wife Martha Dunnam of Cross City; mother, Louise Dunnam of Old Town; son, Lee Dunnam of Gainesville, Fl; daughters, Amy Johnson, Brandy Dunnam and Jessica Dunnam all of Cross City; brothers, Rayburn Dunnam of Perry and Dallas Dunnam of North Carolina; sisters, Lanelle Muzzarelli of Old Town, Weida Petterson of Arizona, Betty Lou McCall of Folkston, Ga and 4 grandchildren, Garrett Dunnam, Brittany Dunnam, Mason Johnson and Kaelie Johnson.
Funeral services for Mr. Dunnam were held Friday, October 7, 2005 at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Archie Knowles and Rev. Jackie Pettrey officiating. Burial followed at Scrub Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Cross City. Visitation was held Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the funeral home. Lewis T. Jewett Jr.
Mr. Lewis T. Jewett Jr. of Old Town, Florida went home to the Lord on September 25, 2005. He was 71 years old. Mr. Jewett was born in Washington D.C. He grew up in Laurel, Maryland. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Coral Sea and in the 101st Airborne. After his military service he moved to Palm Beach County with his family. He worked as a barber for many years at Eddie’s Barber Shop in Lake Worth, Fl. and later worked security at Palm Beach Polo and for Palm Beach County. He moved to his land near the Suwannee River in 2001.
He is survived by his wife Mary and daughter Alesha; sister, Pat Jewett Martin; and brother, Lynton Hanson.
Arrangements were under the care of Moring Funeral Home, Melrose, Florida.
Marjorie F. (Mammy) Chewning
Marjorie F. (Mammy) Chewning, age 79, passed away Sunday morning, September 25, 2005 at her home in Cross City, Florida after a short illness.
Born in Scanlon, Florida on January 25, 1926 to Ben and Jewel Ferns, she moved to Dixie Camp near Jena in the early 40’s. She married her husband, Hal, in 1943 and lived in Cross City until her death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cross City.
She was a homemaker and worked in the Dixie County Property Appraiser’s Office as Deputy Appraiser for 34 years.
“Mammy” is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hal; 2 sons, Hal Jr. (Helen) Chewning and Max (Sue) Chewning both of Cross City; 2 daughters, Susan (Jerry) Jones of Cross City, Pam (Mike) Hahn of Tallahassee, FL; 3 sisters, Lois Liles of Cross City, FL, Thelma Ruff and Gerry Bowden both of Perry; 10 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, FL at 3:00 PM with Rev. Howard Grimmenga, Rev. David Downing and Rev. Wayne Allen officiating. Burial followed at Cross City Cemetery. A visitation was held on Monday, September 26, 2005.
