MILLER - Anna-Faye Kimberlie Miller, 37, died January 29, 2001. She is survived by her children, Matt, Devon and Morgan; mother Diane (Kermit) Dunwoody; siblings, Deby, Diane, Kimberly, Edward, Kenneth and Keith and other loving relatives and friends. MILLER - Funeral Services for Mr. Darryl Anthony Miller, 35, will be held at NOON, THURSDAY, February 8, 2001 in Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church, Rev. Darrell L. Gilyard, Pastor, Rev. Al Letson, Assistant Pastor, officiating. Mr. Miller of 5301 Arrowsmith Rd. died February 3, 2001. A Jacksonville native, he was a graduate of Ribault Senior High School-Class of 1983. He was employed by U. S. Sprint Long Distance Corp. until he retired in 1998 after 14 years of dedicated service. Survivors include his daughter, Kiera N. Miller; mother, Mrs. Ouida L. Miller; brother, Kevin O. Miller; sister, Ms. Kesha J. Emerson (George); 7 aunts; 4 uncles; a niece; 2 nephews; a number of cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Miller will rest in the mortuary for visitation of friends Wednesday from 5PM until 8PM and in the church Thursday from 10AM until the hour of service. Interment will be in Edgewood cemetery. PHILLIPS - Daisy Lee Osteen Phillips, 85, passed away on Sunday, February 4th. Mrs. Phillips was born in St. Augustine, FL and had lived in Jacksonville for over 60 years and was retired from King Edward Cigar Company. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. An active member of East 44th Street Baptist Church and was secretary of the Gleaners Class. Survivors include son, Preston ' ZEEK' Desselberger; daughters, Pearl (Bob) Page, Carol (Tom) Laubach, all of Jacksonville and Wanda Arlo Pace of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Pamela (Mike) Jett, Robert (Sonya) Page, Shannon Page, Kevin Page, Thomas (Candy) Laubach, Amy Laubach, Judie (Gary) Rudicell, Arletta (Leonard) Kicklighter, Preston Desselberger Jr., numerous great-grandchildren, sister Nettie Taylor and brother Thomas Osteen. Her husband, Frank Louis Phillips and son, John William Desselberger, preceded her in death. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 7th, from 5:30-8:30 PM, at George H. Hewell and Son Northside Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, February 8th, at East 44th Street Baptist Church with Rev. Patrick Vaughan, officiating. SHROPSHIRE - Mrs. Mary L. Shropshire died February 3, 2001 at her residence: 2926 Banchory Road, Winter Park, FL 32792. Mrs. Shropshire was 72. She was born in Worcester, Mass. She was a waitress at the Metro Diner for five years and also Wormans Bakery for 10 years both in Jacksonville. Newcomer Family Funeral Home in Winter Park, FL is in charge of arrangements.
VOLLERS - Charles Theodore Vollers, Jr., 82, of 1231 Preston Place died at home Monday morning following a long illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville, a founding member of St. Marks Ev. Lutheran Ch., a life member of the National Rifle Association and other organizations devoted to preserving our Constitutional rights, had been a member of the Springfield Lions Club, The Bull Snort forum, Sales Executive club, Sarari Club and an Army veteran of WW II. Mr. Vollers graduated from Hebron Lutheran Academy in Hebron, NE and Andrew Jackson High School, Jacksonville. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Inst. In Blacksburg, VA and graduated from the Herkimer Inst. Of Mechanical Trades in New York, NY. As one of the most highly trained mechanics and contractors in Jacksonville, he managed the installation and repair dept. of E. G. Golder Oil Co. before founding his own company, Vollers Heating & Air Conditioning where he trained a high percentage of the mechanics serving Jacksonville for several generations. E. G. Golder Co. was founded by his grandfather, E. G. Golder, who helped build much of the new Jacksonville after the fire of 1906, including the St. James Building serving as the present city hall. Mr. Vollers maintained a life long interest in raising the level of the HVAC trade in Jacksonville, introducing the National Warm Air Silver Shield program, forerunner to the present ACCA trade organization. He was a founding member of the former Mechanical Contractors Assoc. of Jacksonville which created the apprenticeship training program now operated by the Northeast Florida Home Builders Assn. He presided over the committee that developed the first mechanical building code for the city of Jacksonville. He was a major advocate of the mechanics and contractor licensing laws designed to protect the citizens of Jacksonville. Survivors: his wife, Mrs. Genevieve E. Vollers, son, C. Ted Vollers, III and grandsons, Chuck T. Vollers IV and William L. Vollers, all of Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held at St. Marks Lutheran Ch. on Friday with visitation Thursday night at Hardage-Giddens SS. Funeral home. Times to be announced.
ASHLEY - Mr. Elliot, 72, of 4017 CogHill Ct. died April 9, 2001. He was a native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville, where he held membership with Second Missionary Baptist Church. As a successful businessman, Mr. Ashley was SelfEmployed as Contractor until he retired after 55 years of dedicated service. Survivors include his son, E. Shawn Ashley(Debbie); daughter, Ms. EllitreJo K. Ashley; granddaughters, Courtney, Channing and Chelsa Ashley; sisters, Mses. to Mary Askaria in 1942. He came to America in 1989 and was a Jacksonville resident. Survivors are his 5 children, 3 of them living in Jacksonville, Elie and his wife Wafa Askarie of New York, Andre, Terez and her husband Cliff Musharbash, Joumana and her husand Michael Najim; and 8 grandchildren. BLACKSHEAR - Hurlon Blackshear of 1300 Broad Street, Apt 207 passed away April 7, 2001 after an extended illness. A native of Jacksonville, Mr. Blackshear served in the U. S. Army. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Hudson, Brandy Blackshear Bailey; sisters, Louvenia Blackshear Mack; brother, David Young; nephews, Virgil Blackshear, Patrick Mack; great niece, Angel White; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four aunts, two uncles, four nephews, two nieces; devoted cousin Ms. Avion Bradshaw; a host of other relatives and many friends. BORKENHEIM - Harmon Ralph Borkenheim, 89, passed away April 11, 2001. Born in New Albany, Ind., he moved to the Jacksonville area in 1953 and was a retired machinist with Seaboard Coastline Railroad. Mr. Borkenheim was an Elder of St. Nicholas Park Christian Church. Survivors include his wife Virginia; sons, Richard (Claudia) and James (Beverly) Borkenheim; daughter, Connie (Ralph) Coleman; brother, Alfred of Calif; 3 sisters, Rachel Jones of Oregon, Martha Hollman of Alabama, and Jane Cowgill of Washington State; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
