SHEDD - John Slater Shedd, 82, born in Jacksonville, FL November 29, 1918, passed away April 12, 2001. Mr. Shedd was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1953. He was an Elder and served at the Bishops Storehouse for over 26 years. He was a member of the Local Carpenters Union #627 for 60 years and was a W.W.II U.S. Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents Calvin S. and Alice K. Shedd and is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Alyce Virginia Smith; brothers: Ed and Charlie Shedd; sisters: Inez Maxwell, Doris Bryan, all of Jacksonville, FL and Julia Holland of AL; 9 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Friday (Today) at Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. Funeral Service will be 10 AM Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints, 5100 Firestone Rd., Jacksonville, FL. Interment Riverside Memorial Park. Officiating will be Bishop David Newton.
STAMPS - Sherman V. Stamps, 75, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2001 in Orange Park, Fla. Mr. Stamps was resident of Clay County since 1959 and a member of First United Methodist Church in Green Cove Springs. He retired from the US Navy in 1973 after 26 years service seeing action in World War ll, Korea and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with combat V. After his military retirement, he was an instructor with the NJROTC at Clay High School for 10 years and a substitute teacher with the Clay County Schools until 1999. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Mayrelou Stamps, daughters, Donita Rhea, Vanessa Yvonne ( Christopher), Gretchen Dawn, Tara Gabrielle ( Robert), brothers, Delbert, Cecil and Junior Stamps, sisters, Nola Sells, Betty Stephan and Ruth Martin, grandchildren, Julia, Madeleine and Eric Young, Kate, Andrew and Olivia Linehart. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2001, 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 500 Walnut St., Green Cove Springs, Fla., with Rev. Rick Young, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 4030 Boulevard Center Dr., Jacksonville, FL 32207. would be appreciated. Mr. Stamps ashes will be interred in Arlington National cemetery at a later date.
STOCKTON - Derrell Clay Stockton, of 1000 Broward Rd. passed away April 8, 2001, he was born February 11, 1956, the youngest of seven children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Obadiah and Louise Stockton. Derrell was reared by his grandmother Mamie ' granny' Thomas, who also predeceased him. He leaves to mourn his passing, a Loving wife Velma Mayes Stockton; son, LaWan Shepard; stepchildren, Derrell and Gregory Tremble; sisters and brothers, Carolyn Johnson (James), Obadiah, Jr. (Francine) Bowie, Md., Cynthia Hartsfield (Rev. TYSON - Ms. Barbara Lee Tyson of 1451 Florida Ave., died April 5, 2001 in a local hospital. A Brunswick, GA native, she has resided in Jacksonville most of her life, where she was employed by St. Vincent's Medical Center until she retired in 1988 after over 20 years of dedicated service. Survivors include her brother, Deacon Alvin Jones, Sr.(Pearl L.); 4 nephews; 2 nieces; goddaughter; a number of grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, including a devoted cousin and caretaker, Ms. Connie Carroll, other relatives and friends. FUNERAL SERVICES for Ms. Tyson will be held at 11AM, SATURDAY, April 14, 2001 in Sweetfield Baptist Church, where she held membership, with Rev. Richard Russ, Pastor, officiating. Ms. Tyson will rest in the mortuary for visitation of friends Friday from 5PM until 8PM(where the family will receive friends at 5PM) and in the church Saturday from 9AM until the hour of service. WILSON - Mrs. Ola Mae Byrd Wilson, of W. 10th Street, passed away April 10, 2001. A native of Pembroke, Georgia, she has been a resident of the Jax., FL area since early childhood and attended local schools here. Mrs. Wilson was an active member of New Mt. Lilla Missionary Bapt. BOND - Audrey R. Mooie, 76, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001. A long time resident of Middleburg, she was a member of the Good Sumaritan Episcopal Church. She is survived by her husband of 58 1/2 years, Richard A. Bond; mother, Florence A. Chalmers; stepmother, Anna B. Williams; daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Jerry W. CARTER - Sally Mae Carter, 73, Jacksonville passed away June 1, 2001 at her residence. The Jasper, Tennessee native had lived in Jacksonville for over 50 yrs. Coming from Tennessee. She was a owner/operator of T.H. Carter Co. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. Survivors are: 2 Daughters: Crystal G. DAY - Funeral services for Charles Vernon Day, age 82 of Orange Park, FL will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday June 5, 2001 from the graveside in the Garden of the Good Shepherd at JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park with Rev. Ronnie Fowler officiating. Charles was born January 30, 1919 in Bergholz, OH, one of seven children born to Morris and Marie Day. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps having served in WWII. He retired from Montgomery Hauling Co. in Coleman, FL following 35 years of dedicated service. Surviving are his daughter Charlene Chuckie Merrill and her husband Norman; his son Charles Richard Day; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; his sisters Avis Burchfield and Bonnie McMaster; his brother Jack Day. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Day and his son Morris E. Day. Family and friends will gather on Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home at the address above.
DEANER - Hazel Wade Johnson Deaner, age 83, died at her residence June 1, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Emmett Banjo Bill Deaner, 3 sons, Tommie Deaner (wife, Darlene), Michael Deaner, & Aaron Deaner (wife, Theresa); 2 daughters, Wanda Robinson (husband, Pete) & Charlotte Eades (husband, Eddie); 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Giles Johnson (wife, Janie) and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Harrod. Graveside services will be held 10 AM Monday in Riverside Memorial Park. DUNCAN - A Mass of Christian Burial for Claire Somera Duncan of Jacksonville, FL was held 10:00 AM Thursday May 31, 2001 at St. Matthew s Catholic Church, 1773 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL with Fr. Joe Maniangat officiating concelebrated with Fr. Moises Palaroan. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Memory Gardens. Claire was born September 15, 1974 in Subic Bay, Philippines, the daughter of Robert and Oda Somera. She passed away May 24, 2001 in Petersburg, VA from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Her life was dedicated to her husband Scott, her family, her education, and helping others. She graduated salutatorian from Orange Park High School. She later graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and was working on finishing her degree from the College of Pharmacy (PharmD) at UF. She had received both the Florida Academic Scholarship and the Navy Supply Corps Scholarship for outstanding academics. She loved sports especially volleyball and tennis, and she loved to go fishing. She was an intern in pharmacy at St. Vincent's Medical Center and a volunteer in the Children's Unit at Shands Medical Center. She loved to sing and was a member of the Blessed Trinity Catholic Church Choir. Claire will be deeply missed by many people including her husband Gregory Scott Duncan; her parents Robert and Oda Somera; sisters Roda and Marlyn Somera; her grandparents Blas and Eufista Somera; her father and mother in law Eddie and Sue Duncan; brother in law David Duncan; brother in law David Duncan; many other loving family members, friends, coworkers, and fellow students.
