FRANCIS - Graveside funeral services for John Abie Francis, 80, who died Friday, June 1, 2001 will be held at 11am Tuesday in St. Marys Catholic cemetery (Evergreen cemetery, Gate 4) with Rev. Fr. Anthony Sebra officiating. Mr. Francis was a native and life long resident of Jacksonville, and was a well known fisherman in the St. Johns river. Surviving is his sister and brother-in-law, Lena Francis and Harold Plummer Sr.; 3 nephews, Harold Plummer, Jr, James J. Frances and Charles L. Francis; 2 nieces Mary Ann Whittle and Iris Cason; a great niece and nephew, Ashley and Eddie Plummer. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Monday at COREY KERLIN Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd.
GORDON - Scott Douglas Gordon, 34, passed away Thursday May 30, 2001. He was a native North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and a longtime resident of the Beaches area. He was 1984 graduate of Duncan U. Fletcher High School and was currently a Regional Manager with Zoom RenttoOwn. Survivors include his wife Stacy Gordon, West Palm Beach, daughter Sydney Gordon, also West Palm Beach, Mother Pamela T. Gordon, Ponte Vedra Beach, Father and Step Mother Kenneth and Sharon Gordon, Jacksonville Beach, Sister Jennifer (Bill) Eidenire, Crestwood, KY, Maternal grandmothers, Mary Kell of Lock Haven, PA and Elva Gordon of Lake Mary, FL, Aunt, Virg Wheeler of Reedsville, PA, 2 neices and 1 nephew. HORNBUCKLE - Sheldon Leslie Hornbuckle, 95, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2001. A long time resident of Jacksonville, Mr. Hornbuckle was a retired postal employee, past president of Jacksonville Musicians Union, a Shriner, and was active in various Masonic organizations in his earlier years. He was of Baptist faith. Survivors include his son, John Sheldon Hornbuckle; daughter, Sandra Prochaska; 4 grandchildren, John Hornbuckle and David, Daniel, and Douglas Gips; and 2 great grandchildren, Jordan and Quincy Gips. KENNEDY - Mr. Herbert Q. Kennedy, age 74, of Nicholls, GA, passed away Friday, June 1, 2001 at his residence. Born April 5, 1927, in Lake Worth, Florida, he lived in Jacksonville, Florida where he was employed with the Jacksonville Ship Yards from 1962 until 1991, and was a Mason and Shriner of Barnett Lodge, and a member of Barford Baptist Church. Mr. Kennedy moved to Nicholls in 1996. Survivors include: His Wife Eugenia T. Kennedy of Nicholls, GA; Three Sons, Elliott Kennedy & wife Denise of Nicholls, GA, Dennis Kennedy & wife Lori of Yulee, FL, and Patrick Kennedy of Jacksonville, FL; A Brother Michael Page Kennedy of Zephyrhills, FL; A Sister Callie Glenda Jeffreys of Tampa, FL; 8 Grandchildren and 4 Great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 4 at Dry Creek Baptist Church near Nicholls, GA, with interment in the Hall cemetery. KEYSER - Paul Keyser, 85, died on Thursday, May 31, 2001. He was born in Washington, DC and had lived in Jacksonville for over 40 years. Mr. Keyser owned and operated Record Bar for over 45 years. He was a member of Jacksonville Jewish Center, was a Shriner, and a Veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army. preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Keyser, he is survived by 2 sons, Edward Keyser and Robert Keyser; daughter, Michelle Blue (Brian); brother, Hymie Keyser; sister, Rita Krongard; and 2 granddaughters, Celeste and Stephanie. Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 4, 3:30 pm, at Center Memorial Park (43rd @ Liberty). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. MCCRAY - Mrs. Evelyn L. McCray, 89, a resident of Mayo, Florida died Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Lake City Health Care. She was a native of Dowling Park living in Mayo most of her life. Mrs. McCray was a homemaker and a member of Alton Church of God. She was the daughter of Ivey Melvin and Arie Parnell Knight. Preceeded in death by her husband of 53 years Harry McCray, a son, Thomas Keith McCray and 2 grandchildren. Survivors include 3 sons, Fred McCray of Ft. White, Harold and Glen McCray both of Mayo, 2 daughters, Frances Sellers of Mayo, Iris Skeen of Live Oak, 2 brothers, Enoch Knight of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Caroll Knight of Jacksonville, 2 sisters, Pauline Hyatt of Cochran, GA, Elmira Watson of Lake City, 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. MOORE - Angel Faith Moore, Infant daughter of Travis and Amy Moore, came to us and went home to our Father in Heaven on May 31, 2001. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister Alexandra, grandparents, Julia Gaston and Robert and Suzanne Taylor, great grandmothers, Dorothy Sturgis and Jean McCormick and a large and loving extended family. NASH - Sharon R. Nash, 56, passed away Friday, June 1, 2001. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin and had resided in Jacksonville two years moving here from Birmingham, AL. Mrs. Nash is survived by her son Darrin; mother, June A. Shada of Madison, WI; sister, Marla Constantin; brother, Andy L. Shada of Madison, WI. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 4, 2001 in the Arlington United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Mixon officiating. NIXON - Thomas E. Nixon, a long time resident of Jacksonville, FL passed away June 1, 2001 following a lengthy illness. He was born September 6, 1920 in Birmingham, AL, the son of Green and Oweeta Nixon. Mr. Nixon retired from the U.S. Navy at NAS Jacksonville following 22 years of distinguished and decorated service, later retiring from the U.S. Postal Service. His memberships include the Fleet Reserve Association Branch #126, the American Legion Post #137, the V.F.W. Post #7909, NARFE, and the National Association of Letter Carriers. Surviving are his son Robert E. Nixon; 3 grandchildren; his sisters Annie Tucker and Myrtle (Edward) Everett; his brothers Marvin (Mary) Nixon and Henry (Ruth) Nixon; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Mary E. Nixon (1995) and his daughter Betty Ruth Nixon (1973). Funeral services in celebration of his life will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday June 5, 2001 from the chapel of JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park with his nephew Rev. Dale Nixon officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of the Last Supper in Jacksonville Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors conferred. PARKER - Horatio Newton Parker, Jr., 76, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001. Mr. Parker was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Horatio N. Parker, Sr. and brother of the late Jeanette Harriet Parker. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Rosenthal of Baltimore, Maryland. A native of Jacksonville, he had graduated from Landon High School. Mr. Parker entered the U.S. Army in 1943 during World War II and served in 5 major campaigns, including Normandy. He was an active communicant of St. Johns Episcopal Cathedral. POUCHER - Allen Louis Poucher, attorney at law, of Jacksonville, died May 30, 2001. He was born September 12, 1918 in Wauchula, Florida, the son of Dr. Allen Poucher and Blanche Rainey Poucher. Poucher is survived by Betty Kochtitzky Poucher his wife of 55 years; 2 brothers, Donald Poucher and his wife, Carol, and Loren Poucher; a daughter Liz Poucher Reynolds, her husband Steve Reynolds and grandsons Wade and Will of Tampa, Florida; his son, Allen Poucher, Jr., his wife, Dianne Larson and granddaughter Dorothy. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1941 and its School of Law in 1942. At Florida, Poucher was active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity and served as its President, Florida Blue Key, Phi Eta Sigma Scholastic Fraternity, the Debate Team, the Executive Council of Student Government, the Staff of the Alligator and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. He participated in and enjoyed campus politics. He was interested and active in Democratic politics for may years after his days at Florida. He first practiced law with the Jacksonville law firm of Mr. R. P. Daniel and then joined Knight, Kincaid, Poucher and Harris. Poucher served as managing secretary of the Jacksonville Automobile Dealers for 50 years and was General Counsel for Koger Properties, Inc. for many years. He was a fifty year member of the Florida Bar. He was President of the Jacksonville Junior Chamber of Commerce. One of his great interests was competitive swimming. He was awarded lifetime membership in the Amateur Athletic Union. Poucher was a founder of Jacksonville Episcopal High School in 1966 and was instrumental in raising an endowment to build its competitive swimming facility and program. Poucher was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church, and served on its vestry. He was a member of The Fryars, and The Florida Yacht Club. For many years he served as an usher in Ye Mystic Revellers. A memorial service will be held at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 4129 Oxford Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida on Monday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. and will be officiated by The Reverend R. Leigh Spruill, and The Reverend Lila B. Brown. Honorary pallbearers are: Dennis Calfee, Latham Davis, Jr., The Honorable Raymond Ehrlich, Byrd C. Fryer, Jr., Harry G. Kincaid, Ira M. Koger, Charles H. Mann, Carroll Milam, and The Honorable George C. Young.
