Raymond Jipp
Raymond Herman Jipp went home to be with the Lord on December 11, 2014 following a brief illness. He was born on January 2, 1921, the son of Herman Detlef and Minnie Margaret (Krebs) Jipp. He moved with his family from Allentown, PA to Jacksonville, FL in April, 1972. He was a retired Civil Engineer having received his BSCE degree from the University of Iowa in July, 1943. His work began as an aircraft designer in Fort Worth, TX, followed by oil and gas exploration throughout the southern states and in the oil fields of Saudi Arabia. While there, he also laid out desert aircraft landing strips, compressor station construction, as well as atomic research facilities. His last work was in Jacksonville, FL while associated with the Sverdrup Consulting Company. Raymond enjoyed playing golf and genealogy research, as well as engineering and computer technology. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in three states and was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and Moslah Shrine Temple in Fort Worth, TX. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers and sisters-in-law. Surviving him are his wife of 56 years, Leona, two children, Fred Jipp and Ruth Jipp Dye, and grandson, Connor Dye. Also surviving is a brother, Alvin and wife Gladys, as well as nieces and nephews. Memorialization will be by cremation with graveside services in the Hartley, IA family cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Florida.

Anna E. Whitlock
Died: Wednesday, November 05, 2003
Age: 92
She was born in Lebanon, Pa.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth (Richard) Ard of Ponte Vedra Beach; grandchildren Mary Therese Poma, Mike Ard, Rick Ard and Paul Ard, and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 7, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with Father William Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery.

Allen Charles 'A.C.' Forbus
Died: Monday, January 05, 2004
Age: 62
Born April 20, 1941, in Warrior, Alabama, he was a resident of Atlantic Beach for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Helen Forbus of Atlantic Beach; sons Chris Forbus and Greg Forbus, both of Jacksonville; daughter Michelle Forbus of Jacksonville, and granddaughter Chelsia Forbus of Jacksonville.
The family will receive visitors from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. today, Jan. 7, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home in Jacksonville Beach. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be Jan. 10 in Irondale, Ala. The family requests that donations be made in his honor to the National Kidney Foundation.

Virginia Little Boardman
Died: Sunday, January 04, 2004
Age: 88
She attended Agnes Scott College and Emory University, Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick James Boardman, and her son, Jim Boardman.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Gaye Boardman, grandchildren, Gary (Glory) Boardman, Michael (Susan) Taylor of Ponte Vedra Beach, Greg (Cari) Boardman, Eric Bartos and Heather (Jason) Koltes, and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Jan. 6 at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, Roswell. Alpharetta, Ga., with interment in Arlington Memorial Park.

THOMAS FRANCIS MITCHELL, JR.
1946-2009
Mitchell-Thomas F. Mitchell, Jr. age 62, passed away April 7, 2009. He was a loving fiance’, devoted father and grandfather, and caring friend to all who knew him. He was born May 8, 1946 in Milwaulkee, WI, to the late Thomas, Sr. and Ellen Mitchell. Thomas lived and breathed baseball, from playing to coaching. He was a catcher for Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, TN from 1960-1964, followed by 5 years with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fred Donald Wilkerson
September 29, 1926 - May 11, 2013
Funeral services for Fred Donald Wilkerson (86) of Hilliard, Florida will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Live Oak Baptist Church in Callahan, Florida with pastors, Steve Wolgamott and Jimmy Black officiating. The interment will immediately follow in Bethel cemetery, Hilliard, Florida. Mr. Wilkerson was born on September 29, 1926 in Trenton, Florida, son of the late John Dalton Wilkerson and the former Annie Matthews. He went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2013 following a brief illness. He is survived by: daughter, Donell; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; numerous extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Live Oak Baptist Church, Callahan, Florida. Those serving as pallbearers are Kevin Privett, Mark McCullough, J.D. Johnson, Earl Thrift, Richard Musgrove, Danny Hodges and Russell Sikes. Honorary Pallbearers are James Perdue, Darryl Henderson, Buddy Powell, Shep Brock, Billy Powell, Bob Nunn and Franklin Hobbs

Marguerite C. Taylor-Nagy
Died: Saturday, January 03, 2004
Age: 73
Born Aug. 11, 1930, in Pinehurst, N.C., she was a member of Palms Presbyterian Church and the Jacksonville Beach Women’s Golf Association.
She is survived by daughter Flora Bowman of Jacksonville Beach; stepdaughter Eleanor (Rick) Brown; brother Thomas W. (Ruby) Campbell of Sanford, N.C.; sisters Theresa Cocolin, Sanford, N.C., Gwyn (J.C.) Campbell-Dixon of Riverside, Calif., and Billie (William) Campbell-Hickox of Callahan; grandchildren John B. Bowman III, Christopher Scott Bowman, Brandy Nichole (Byron) Starrett and Crystal Mariah (Terry) Weber; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 7, at Palms Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville Beach, with Pastor Tom Walker and the Rev. Carol DiGiusto officiating. Interment will be Friday at Barbecue Presbyterian Church cemetery in Sanford, N.C. Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, Sanford, and Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach, are in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Barbecue Presbyterian Church cemetery Fund.

Christa Sommer
Christa Felixsa Margarete Ida Kabitz-Sommer, 92, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Park Ridge Nursing Center in Jacksonville, FL. She was born May 21, 1918 in Silesia, Germany, to Margarete Voigt and Robert Friedrich Kabitz. She grew up in Germany, where she trained at the Master School of Art in Offenbach and the Master School of Art in Breslau.
She immigrated to the United States in 1949 and chose Washington, D.C. as her new home based on her admiration for Thomas Jefferson. She continued her profession as a portrait artist, became a naturalized U.S. citizen, and married Edmund Totten Sommer in Washington, D.C. in November 1952 (divorced in 1972). She also continued her artistic training at the Corcoran School of Art and American University, both in Washington, D.C.
A portrait painter of note, she painted members of the Royal Family, Hohenzollern; leaders of industry, society, education and the arts. Her artistic works, from a half-century career spanning 1938 – 1988, are represented in collections in Europe, North and South America. During the decades she signed her works as Christa Eichler, Christa Kabitz, and after 1953, as Christa Sommer or simply Christa.
She was a popular painting instructor at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. during the 1970s. Among her accomplishments, the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor sat for a portrait by Christa which is now housed at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.
A resident of Washington, D.C. for nearly 50 years, she had a love of life, people, and travel which led her most corners of the globe. She spent a decade splitting her time between Washington and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she created many works of art, appreciated the local culture and taught at the local Art Institute. In 2001, she moved to Sandy Springs, GA area to be near daughter Christiane Sommer, and in 2007 moved with her to Jacksonville, FL.
Christa’s hobbies included studying history and culture, contemplating the possibilities of the human race, curiosity about any form of life, and photography. She was a longtime listener and supporter of National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service. Her favorite spiritual song was “Amazing Grace” and she appreciated the work of the Salvation Army. Born and raised a Lutheran, she inquired into other great spiritual traditions as well, and chose Buddhism for her personal spiritual path in later life.
She considered her most distinguished achievements to have been bringing up two great children, enjoying two wonderful grandchildren, remaining a fierce advocate of the truth, and keeping her sense of humor and sense of proportion.
She is survived by her two daughters, Felixa Haynes Sommer Boutwell (David) with grandchildren, Mary Alice Grace Boutwell and Parker Christian Boutwell, of Kernersville, NC; and Christiane Lynda Sommer Reid (Barry), of Jacksonville, FL. Her extended family also includes two nephews, Eberhard Funck (Brigitte), of Hillerse Germany, and their four daughters and two grandchildren; and Goetz Funck, currently working in Asia; one niece, Barbara Siegenthaler (Gerd), of Kriftel, Germany, their two sons and two daughters and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her two sisters, Ruth Kabitz and Traude Funck.
The family would like to give special thanks to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida and the Park Ridge Nursing Center in the Riverside community of Jacksonville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army. A spiritual ceremony is scheduled for May 21, 2011 at 3:00 pm at the Karma Thegsum Choling Buddhist temple, 1258 South McDuff Ave., Jacksonville FL 32205 (904)357-0663. A celebration of Christa’s life is scheduled in early August with Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073 (904) 264-1233.
Park Ridge Nursing Center will also hold a memorial service for Christa Sommer at 3:30 p.m. on May 12 at their location, 730 College Street, Jacksonville, FL 32204. Anyone wishing further information on this service may contact the nursing home at (904) 358-6711.
Pray for her soul now to be guided to heaven.

Sandra Hodges Beaver
Sandra Hodges Beaver, 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Orange Park, FL, on Saturday, June 15, 2013. She was born on January 21, 1945 in St. George, GA, to Houston Hodges and the late Catherine Hodges.
In addition to her mother, Sandra was predeceased by her sister, Loretta Renshaw, and lifelong friend, Jenny Pulak.
Sandra is survived by her father, Houston (Juanita) Hodges; daughter, Tracy Taylor; sons, Steven (Angela) Beaver and Michael (Susan) Beaver; eight loving grandchildren whom she adored, Savannah, Lilyanne, Amelia, Axel, Aidan, Liam, Kieran and Findley; her sister, Claudette Ketcham; many beloved nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
A service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 6:00 p.m., with a viewing from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service, both at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233.

Frances B. Chandler
Died: Saturday, January 03, 2004
Age: 88
She was born July 25, 1915, in Hogansville, Ga., and moved to Jacksonville Beach from Savannah, Ga. She spent most of her life in Luthersville, Ga., and was a member of the Luthersville Baptist Church. Her husband, Arnold B. Chandler, and son, Lawrence B. Chandler, predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne Railsback of Jacksonville Beach; brother George Bond of Brentwood, Calif.; grandchildren Scott, Stacy and Cristi Chandler, Wayne Hiott and Jan Lokie, and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, in the chapel of Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Steve McCollum of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn cemetery.

Jack D. Zirkle
Died: Thursday, January 01, 2004
Age: 65
Born Sept. 14, 1938, in Parkersburg, W. Va., he was a captain in the Air Force. He moved back to Florida in 1984 and worked at Jacksonville Naval Air Station for the past 20 years.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Neptune Beach, Air Force Association, Loyal Order of Moose Club and the Harley-Davidson Owners Group. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Michael and Mark Zirkle, and grandson Noah Wittmann.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa: son W. Matthew of Paducah, Ky.; daughter Michelle (Randall) Wittmann of Ponte Vedra Beach; stepsons Paul T. (Laura) Johnson, Pensacola, and Thomas J. (Nancy) Johnson, Minneapolis; sister Linda Smith, Parkersburg, W.Va.; grandchildren Ansley Zirkle, Joshua, Patrick, and Kylie Johnson, Lukas Johnson and Ryan Wittmann, one nephew and two nieces.
A memorial celebration was held Monday, Jan. 5, at Christ United Methodist Church. National Cremation Society.

Frank Powell Sr.
Frank Powell Sr. 86, was born on September 17, 1928, in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1955. Frank went to heaven on September 28, 2014 to meet his Lord. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during World War II Frank earned the Victory medal and the Army Occupational medal in Japan. Frank also served in the United States Marines during the Korean War where he earned the National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He served as a Presidential Guard. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an usher of his Church. Frank retired from Sears after 35 years of service as a Home Improvement salesman. Frank was predeceased by his son Michael and daughter Christina. Also his good friend of 45 years Bill W. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Patricia also children Karon McGarva, Kim Pharis (Bill), Barbara Melcolm (Bobby), Nancy Bundy (Billy) and Frank Powell Jr. (Tessa). Frank is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 16 ˝ great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 6:30pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, October 2, 2014 for a vigil service, where eulogies can be presented, it will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Rd. At 1:00pm on Saturday, October 4, 2014 a funeral Mass will be held at the same church followed by a luncheon. At 4:30pm a graveside service will be held at the Arlington cemetery following the luncheon.

Edward William Warshol
Died: Thursday, January 01, 2004
Age: 91
Born May 21, 1912, in E. St. Louis, Ill., he moved to the Beaches area with his wife 20 years ago from his birthplace. He was a retired foreman for Swift & Co. Meat Packing and was a Catholic. He was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Warchol, and sisters Lottie Hanser and Stella Warchol.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Warshol of Jacksonville Beach; brother Leo Warchol of Fairview Heights, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
A service was held Tuesday at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society, 9143 Philips Highway Jacksonville, Fl., 32256.

Edward N. Frank
Died: Thursday, January 01, 2004
Age: 67
Born Sept. 13, 1936, in Stockholm, N.Y., he was a longtime resident of the Beaches and a member of Neptune Baptist Church. He was retired from the Navy, having served during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion post in Jacksonville Beach. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hope, in 2000.
He is survived by a son, Wes (Cheryl) Frank of New Orleans; brothers John and Bill; sisters Lila and Louise, and grandchildren Benjamin, Nathan and Ashleigh.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 7, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 8 at Neptune Baptist Church, with Pastor Tom Bary officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Beaches Memorial Park, Atlantic Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Neptune Baptist Church - God’s Challenge, Our Choice.
