LAWSON - Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Lawson, age 80 of Jacksonville, FL who passed away November 29, 1998 will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday December 2, 1998 from the chapel of JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Memory Gardens. Mrs. Lawson was Baptist by faith and had attended Normandy Baptist Temple. She was very well loved by many friends and neighbors who knew her as Miss Mary. She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years Lawrence E. Lawson; daughter Lois Childers and son Carl E. Lawson. Survivors include two daughters Sara Riley and Reba P. Blanton and her husband Wallace; sixteen grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; Sister Carrie Sheets; two brothers Bill and Kirb McGuire. Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening (TONIGHT) from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
MELVIN - Alton E. Melvin, 68, died Sunday, November 29, 1998. Born October 5, 1930, he was a native of Mandarin. Mr. Melvin was a printer for 40 years, and a member of the Mandarin United Methodist Church. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a former member of the Flatwoods Hunting Club. His family includes his wife Frances Imogene Melvin; son Raymond Melvin, Sr. (Debbie); three daughters Brenda Robinson (Mike), Cindy Bennett, and Patty Barrett (Mike); sister Eleanor Melvin; granddaughter Sara Robinson; five grandsons: Alan and Randy Melvin, Nicholas and Trey Robinson, and Austin Barrett; aunt Dorothy Nix; four nephews and five nieces. Services will be held 10AM Wednesday in the chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS MANDARIN FUNERAL HOME, 11801 San Jose Blvd. with The Rev. Patrice Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Mandarin cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. SANDERS - Mrs. Lynn Sanders age 50, died Sunday, November 29, 1998 in Methodist Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida. She is a native of Otter Creek, FL, she made Macclenny her home in 1981 after living in Jacksonville. She was a homemaker and a member of Raiford Road Church. She is the daughter of the late Oze Harden. Survivors include her husband Johnny Sanders of Macclenny, mother Eunice Stuckey of Jacksonville, Step-son; Steven Sanders of Lawety, Step daughters; Theresa Yawn of Callahan, Rhonda Bagby, Angela Creamer and Tammy Dumm all of Jacksonville, Brother Donnie Stuckey; sister Frieda Brown both of Jacksonville, FL, Wretha Savage of Rosewood, Seven Step-grandchildren and Two Step Great Grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 1998 at 2:00 P.M. in Raiford Road Church with Rev. David Hodges officiating. The interment will follow in Oak Grove cemetery, Baker County. SESSIONS - Kelly Marie Sessions Nee' Stines, in an untimely departure on November 27, has now joined her heavenly Fathers. Born on October 31, 1963 in Cleveland, Ohio, Kelly spent the last 27 years in Jacksonville, FL. Married to Kevin, she is survived by her son, Matthew Jonathon, her mother, Midge Stines, brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Wendy Stines, devoted in-laws, Carson and John Sessions, and many loving family members. With the loss of her big heart, even bigger smile, warm personality, and quick wit, Kelly will leave a huge void in the lives of all those who knew her and loved her. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, December 2, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. Interment will be at 1 PM Wednesday at Oaklawn cemetery in Jacksonville. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home. Prayers will be at 7 PM. TAYLOR - Harold B. Taylor CLU, ChFC, died on November 28, 1998 at the age of 68. Born in Albany, GA he resided in Jacksonville and worked as an insurance agent. He was an Elder in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was a member of the Mandarin Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He was a loving husband and dedicated father. THIRSK - Stanley Potter Thirsk, 46, of the 100 block of South 16th Street, died Thursday, November 26, 1998 in Hampton Veterans Hospital, Hampton, VA. Mr. Thirsk was a native of Fernandina Beach, FL., and was a commercial fisherman. He was a member of North 14th Street Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach and a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army being stationed in Germany. Mr. Thirsk was the son of John R. Thirsk, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Ruth Gray Thirsk of Fernandina Beach, FL. Besides his parents, Mr. Thirsk is survived by 3 sisters: Deborah Swaringen of Jacksonville, FL., Joyce Bryant of Houston, TX and Olive Mae Cook of Yulee, FL; 2 brothers: Michael E. Dixon of Newport News, VA and John R. Thirsk, Jr. of Fernandina Beach, FL. A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, December 2, 1998 at 2:00 PM by the Reverend Bob Barthel in North 14th Street Baptist Church. WASHINGTON - Mrs. Mae Etta Ford Washington, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 1998. She was born in Savannah, Georgia. She later moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1951. Mrs. Washington served in the U.S. Army, WWII and retired as a Nurses Aide. She was a member of the Northwest Congregation of Jehovah's Witness, 7021 New Kings Rd. She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Terlela Dabney-Wilson (Walter) and Ms. Antonia Washington: 5 Grand children, Charlotte R.
