Jacksonville, Florida - Dorothy Self Owen, 85, went to be with her Lord and savior January 13, 2013. She was born on March 31, 1927 in Chipley, Florida. Dorothy loved the Lord and loved serving others. She had such a big and kind heart. She was a faithful Christian. She was a member of Kernan Boulevard Baptist Church for 50 years. She touched many lives with the love of God. Her love as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, sister in law and friend will always live on in our hearts. She is preceded in death by her first husband of 46 years, Lake Self, Sr. She is survived by her loving husband Billy Owen; children, Lake Self, Jr., Linda (Jack) Howard, Kathy (Gary) Dudley; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and sister Mary (Edwin) Mathis. Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 17, 2012 from 6-8:00pm at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Martha Robinson Abram

Jacksonville, Florida - Martha Kate Robinson was born on April 21, 1929 in Berrien Co. GA., the daughter of Jesse James Robinson and Eliza Corene Gaskins Fender. She died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at her home in Jacksonville, FL., at the age of 80 years, 9 months, and 23 days. Martha grew up and attended school in Berrien Co., Ga., and graduated from Nashville High School in the class of 1946. On November 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to Willis Lee ‘Bill’ Abram, in Charlton County Georgia. Three sons were born to this union. After their marriage they made their home in Jacksonville, Florida and were privileged to enjoy over 59 years of married
life together. Martha enjoyed homemaking, raising children and spending time with her family. After her sons left home, she returned to work, as a bank teller and later as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Highlands United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother Darrell Robinson. Martha is survived by her husband, a son, Darrell Lee Abram and his wife Bertha, of Jacksonville, FL., twin sons Donald Dean Abram and his wife Marybeth, of Bryant, AL., and Ronald Dale Abram of Jacksonville, FL.; eight grandchildren: Darlene Castleberry and her husband Michael, Diane Wilson and her husband Rick, Floyd Vern Abram and his wife Melissa, Richard Abram, Matthew Abram and his wife Nana Ono, Joshua Abram, Elizabeth Kate Abram, and Ronald Lee Abram; nine great-grandchildren: John Michael and Austin Lee Castleberry, Alec Tyler Brannon, Ashley Nicole Abram, Floyd Vern Abram II, Chris Allen Abram, Kaisei Skylar Abram, Shishio Ayden Abram, and Niama Abram; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be at 2pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Highlands United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joe Allinder officiating. Interment will follow in Arlington Park cemetery. Casket bearers will be Floyd Abram, Michael Castleberry, Rick Wilson, Richard Abram, Matthew Abram, Joshua Abram, Ronald Lee Abram and Duane Lisenby. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 from 6-8pm at Arlington Park Funeral Home. Eric Hemphill Goodling
Eric Hemphill Goodling, 43, Jacksonville Beach, passed away suddenly on September 21, 2011. Eric was born in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida on January 11, 1968, the youngest of Don and Neese Goodling’s five children. Eric grew up in Atlantic Beach, and attended Atlantic Beach Elementary School, Fletcher Senior High School, graduating in 1986, with letters in wrestling, soccer, football and track. He received both an AA and AS from FJC, Jacksonville. Eric was baptized and confirmed at Community Presbyterian Church, Atlantic Beach and worshiped there until he moved to Oregon to begin working in 1993. Upon his return to Florida, Eric worshiped at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Eric was a member of Boy Scout Troop 37, at Community Presbyterian Church, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Eric was also a retired member in good standing of the American Red Cross Life Saving Corps.
Eric was predeceased by his father, Don Goodling, Atlantic Beach, his sister, Carter Goodling Tanaka of Osaka, Japan, his grandparents, Jacob and Harriett Ostner of Jacksonville and Don and Peggy Goodling of Atlantic Beach.
He is survived by his mother, Neese, brothers, Sandy, William, and Beaver, of Atlantic Beach and their wives, Heather and Anna, nephews Daniel and Jacob Goodling, nieces Shell and Wren Tanaka and brother-in-law, Keisuke Tanaka of Osaka, aunts and uncles and cousins scattered around. Additionally, he is survived by his God-parents Thomas J. Hoey of Kurtistown, Hawaii, Penny Drew Ware of Jacksonville, and Sally Drew Rowe of Columbus, Georgia.
A memorial service celebrating Eric’s life will take place on Saturday, October 1st at 10:30 AM at Community Presbyterian Church, 150 Sherry Drive, Atlantic Beach. Additionally, the American Red Cross Life Saving Corp will honor Eric with a ceremony at 6 PM, Friday, September 30th at the Life Guard Station at Beach Blvd and Ocean Front, Jacksonville Beach. All are invited.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Boy Scout Troop 37 at Community Presbyterian Church, 150 Sherry Drive, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233, American Red Cross Life Saving Corps, 751 Riverside Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32204, Resurrection Anglican Church, P.O. Claude Eugene "Gene" Plunk
Claude Eugene “Gene” Plunk, 60, passed away on Friday September 30, 2011 at the Community Hospice, Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring. Gene was born in Peoria, Illinois on June 5, 1951 to Marlie A. Plunk & Marie L. Rentz Plunk. A longtime resident of Jacksonville, Gene was a General Contractor and the owner/operator of Total Construction Solutions. When not working, Gene was an avid fisherman.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Marlie A. Plunk. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Peggy Ann Plunk; 5 sons, Michael, Todd (Sheila), Duane, Chuck & Tray; 7 grandchildren, Cameron, Amber, Duane, Falyn, Gracieanna, Corbin & Maverick; a great grandson, Caiden; his mother, Marie Brunofsky; a brother, Morris; 2 sisters, Ann & Ann Marie and many extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Monday October 3, 2011 from 6 until 8 pm at George Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd S. Sybil Andrew Althoff
Sybil Andrew Althoff, 76, passed away at home in Atlantic Beach on Sunday, October 9, 2011. Sybil was born in Mayport on August 4, 1935.
Sybil was a member of the Fletcher High School class of 1953, and worked for many years as a secretary and bookkeeper for local realtors Maureen O’Malley and Terry McCue. In her retirement, Sybil enjoyed the company of her family and friends who lovingly called her “Shug.” All those who knew her were aware of her outgoing nature, generous spirit, and keen sense of humor.
Sybil is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dan, who was her tender caregiver; children Dan Althoff, Jr. and Carolyn (William) Fridley; brothers Joe Houston (Lou) Andrew, Walter (Clara) Andrew, and sister Bea (Joe) Carpentieri; grandchildren Christian, James and Maria Buttner; and great-grandchildren Ryan Buttner and Hailey Cashman. Sybil was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Nick Andrew and Cora Knight Andrew, sister Asia Carolyn Cooper, and brother Marion Andrew.
A Rosary will be said in her memory Thursday evening, October 13 at 6:30 pm in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, followed by visitation 7:00-8:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held Friday, October 14, at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Father William Kelly, presiding. Interment will follow at H. Warren Smith cemetery.
Nobuko "Tonie" Brandt
Nobuko "Tonie" Brandt, 80, died Thursday, Oct. 6th, 2011 at Community Hospice surrounded by her adoring family. Tonie worked at Mayport Navy Lodge after coming to Atlantic Beach from California 13 years ago.

AHEARN, Nancy Elaine Ahearn, 55, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Mrs. Ahearn has been employed with Miller Electric for 33 years and was an active sponsor of her son’s football program at Atlantic Coast High School. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Brian Ahearn; father, Felton Perdue; mother, Nancy Gothard; 1 daughter, Ashley (Brad) Beck; 1 son, Matthew Ahearn; 2 sisters, Beth (Danny) Huss and Cheryl (John) Ridener; 1 brother, Allen (Melinda) Gothard; brother-in-law, Robert (Julie) Ahearn; special long time friend, Donna Nelson; and many other loving family and friends. Dorothy Virginia Milligan Ford
Dorothy Virginia Milligan Ford, 80, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2011 in Jacksonville, Florida, after a long and courageous battle against Alzheimer’s. She was a long-time resident of Atlantic Beach and a noted local artist of the Jacksonville Beaches.
Virginia graduated from Lee High School in Jacksonville, and went on to graduate from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Design. She later received a Master of Education in Art Education from the University of North Florida. She was a retired teacher and spent most of her career teaching at Finegan Elementary. After retiring, Virginia spent most of her time on her iconic watercolor and pastel paintings of local scenes in Atlantic, Neptune, and Jacksonville Beach. She was a member of the First Coast Pastel Society for over 15 years.
Virginia was preceded by her parents, Dorothy Hair Milligan and Elmer Milligan, and her two brothers, Richard Milligan and John Roger Milligan. She is survived by her two sisters, Elizabeth Milligan Hooten and Jo Ann Milligan Landon; and her sister-in-law, Carrie Redfield Milligan. She is also survived by her children, Kathy Ford Gallop (Marshall), Curtis Ford (Dwin), and Alexandra Ford Booth (David); and her grandchildren, Stephanie Gallop; Justin, Garrett, and Christian Ford; and Connor and Amelia Booth.
A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in the Old Chapel at Beaches Chapel, 610 Florida Blvd., Neptune Beach, Florida.

Lena M. Hamilton, 98, passed away October 2, 2011. Lena proudly served and retired from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. She was a member of Palms Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville Beach and lifetime member of the ASPCA.
She is survived by her only sister Eleanor E. Lessig. She was predeceased by her parents, A.J. and Lena P. Hamilton; sisters, Katherine Smith and Mary Louise Madden; and brothers, Robert and Herbert Hamilton.

Herbert "Mike" Surles
Herbert “Mike” Surles went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 26, 2012. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was 63 years old, born September 22, 1948, to A.E. and Helen Surles in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from Englewood High School in 1967 and received his Bachelor of Arts from UNF in 1972.
Mike was an employee of the State of FL Department of Children and Families, serving the community of Jacksonville diligently and faithfully for 35 years before his retirement in 2007. He also worked for ElderSource for two years.
Mike was a lifelong member of University Baptist Church, serving on the deacon board and finance committee, in addition to teaching Sunday School from the time he graduated from high school. He spent hours preparing lessons for children through senior adults during his time serving as a teacher. Mike’s legacy is one of faithfulness and steadfastness to the Lord through circumstances which were extremely difficult at times. His faith never wavered, always acknowledging that in all things, “God is in control.”
Mike’s family was his pride and joy. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 39 years, Kathy Futch Surles, and three children: Lori Collier (children Brittany, Kaelan, Grayson), Misty Small (Jimmy) (children Alyssa, Trista, Isaiah, Moriah), and Michael Surles (Jennifer) (child Ava). In addition, he leaves a sister, Janette Ziegenfuss, and a brother, Austin Surles.
Viewing will be an hour before the service scheduled for Saturday, January 28 at 12:30pm at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home 4140 University Boulevard South, with Rev. Frank Ciresi and Dr. Jack J. Dinsbeer officiating.

Funeral services for Milton “M.T.” Terrell Riggins, 82, who died March 2, 2012, will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of George H. The family will receive friends Sunday (Today) from 4-6 P.M. at the funeral home. Mr. Riggins was born in Adel, Georgia and was a longtime resident of Jacksonville, Florida. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Woodstock Park Masonic Lodge #313. He was a 32 Degree Mason and was a member of the Baptist faith. preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Judith J. Riggins. Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Riggins Young (Earl); 1 brother, Jimmie W. Riggins (Sarah); 2 grandchildren, Shannon K. Boahn (Ron), and Brian Terrell Lewis; 2 great-grandsons, Nicholas James Lopez, and Hunter Cole Boahn; 2 nieces, Elisa Simpson (Tommy) and Sara Lynn Somers; 1 nephew, Jimmie Wayne Riggins.
