Nita Bell Cheeks Addison
80 years young, born August 27, 1934, God called her to her heavenly home November 6, 2014. She was born in Midville GA, her proud parents Elijah and Essie M. Cheeks. She was the only child of their union. She was educated in the Emanuel County Public School Systems.
She married Henry Berry Addison, 1953, and moved to the Beaches area in 1958, out of their marriage she bore six children, Kenneth, Johnny, (Ann), Mary Helen (Willie James, deceased), Dennis (Val), Paul and Eric all of Jacksonville, FL. Her husband ‘H.B’ and son Eric preceded her in death.
She was a mother of faithful companionship and a confidant even in the most difficult time. She dedicated her life to caring and providing for her children both physically and emotionally. She helped us overcome our problems and thrive in spite of them. Her love is irreplaceable, which make losing her (to death in body, presence in the Lord) an incredibly painful experience. God called her to her heavenly home as part of his great plan and although it is hard, we must understand.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Children; Kenneth, Johnny, Mary Helen, Dennis, and Paul. She lived to enjoy 14 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and her Aunt, Claudia Mae Cheeks. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and special friends, Lizzie Norton, Ruth Penn, Ruby Farmer and Anna Lynton.
She was a former member of the Modern Free and Accepted Masons of the World Inc. She joined and served at Second Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir for many years.
She was employed by the Jacksonville Beach Courthouse and the Beaches Hospital for many years. She also worked for Duval County School Board from there she retired and began to really enjoy the hobbies of her life. She was a passionate 'fisher woman', where the Jax Fishing Pier was her home away from home. She met many other fishers, greeting everyone with a smile and hello, always wanting to encourage the best out of anyone she met. She always had something witty to say that you just had to laugh or at least smile. When she told you a story about the size of fish she caught, ‘she had the fish to prove it’, all of her stories were true and exciting stories. She loved cooking, especially at this time of the year where family and friends would gather for buffet style home cooking. No matter when you visited, she had a pot of something ready to eat. An avid gardener, she grew most of the veggies and flowers surrounding her home. Whether hanging, potted or grounded, plants grew, she had a green thumb. Just a few weeks ago, she started cleaning out flowerpots, cutting and pruning plants, getting ready for the upcoming season, not knowing her season was at hand. God in his awesome ways, needed a flower for his garden and plucked her, because he only chooses the best.
