HOLLAND - Richard B. Holland, 87, died on Thursday, December 3, 1998. He was born in Kentucky and had lived in Jacksonville since 1934. Mr. Holland was a graduate of the University of Florida, where he was a member of PHI KAPP TAU fraternity. He was employed by Firestone and had retired after 38 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlotte G. Holland. Graveside service will be held on Monday, December 7, 1998 at 10:30 A.M. in Oaklawn cemetery, with Dr. Monroe Hatch officiating. KLEIN - Kenneth 'Kenny' Klein, 32, died suddenly December 2, 1998. Funeral services will be Wednesday 11:00 A.M. in the HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME Chapel, 4115 Hendricks Ave. with Rev. Don Nichols officiating. Survivors include his wife Sandy Klein; son Andrew K. Klein and his second child due in July; parents Don and Carol Klein; brother Craig Klein, sisters Kerrie Bernard, and Lindsay Henderson; grandmother Mildred Jacobs, and several nieces and nephews. KORTE - Willie Mae Korte, 75, died Friday, December 4, 1998. Mrs. Korte was a native of Columbus, Mississippi and had lived most of her life in Jacksonville. Survivors include one daughter, L. Marie (Ray) Colegate; one son, Martin L. Cash; one sister, Marie Coleman; three granddaughters, Andrea Cash, Melissa Cash and Julia A. (Brian) Adkins; one great-grandson, Brian Austin Adkins; one nephew, Ricky Coleman; a great-nephew, Chris (Tina) Ariail, a great-niece, Jenny Coleman and great-great-niece, Bailey Noel Coleman. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Tuesday, December 8, 1998 in the chapel of COREY-KERLIN FUNERAL HOME, 1426 Rowe Avenue. Interment in Edgewood cemetery. McNEIL - Jerome Lex McNeil, 64, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 1998. He was a native of Laurel, MS. and has lived in Jacksonville for the past thirty years. He was retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. Survivors include his wife of twenty two years, Rachael; daughters, Virginia Gail Henck and Miriam Barr both of Jacksonville; sons, Wallace Donald Rowland of Jacksonville and Vernon Michael Rowland of Waycross, GA; brothers, Ray McNeil of Jackson, MS. and Kerney McNeil of Corinth, MS; sister, Wynona Dill of Tuscaloosa, AL; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 7 at 11am in the chapel of Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, with Rev. David Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park cemetery, Jacksonville. The visitation will be held on Sunday (today) from 6pm until 9pm at the funeral home in Jacksonville. McKINNEY - Beverly Jean Mc Kinney, 60, died December 3, 1998 in a local hospital. A native of Wheeling, West Virginia, she was a resident of St. Augustine. Survivors include her husband, John R. Mc Kinney, Sr. of St. Augustine; a son, John R. McKinney, Jr., of St. Augustine; a daughter, Jackie Burgess of Sikeston, Missouri; a brother, James Whitecotton of Norwalk, Ohio; a sister Bonnie Delaney of Jacksonville Beach; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. MILLER - Minnie M. Miller, 60, passed away Dec. 4, 1998. She was born in Johnson City, TN and had resided in Jacksonville for 26 yrs. She was retired from the Duval Co. School Board with 16 yrs. of service. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her daughter, Rita Miller; and survived by her husband Sam Miller; 2 sons Lenny Miller (Paula) and Sam Miller, Jr. (Lori); 3 daughters, Georgia Miller, Mary Huffman (Ricky) and Darlene Ferguson (Mike); 4 brothers; 1 sister, 11 grandchildren; 7 greatgrandchildren; and other extended family members. NORMANDIN - Rejane D. Normandin, 82, passed away Dec. 2, 1998. She was born in Manchester, N.H. and has resided in Jacksonville since 1994 where she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include her son, Jerry L. Normandin and wife Clara; brother, Gerard Gelinas; 2 grandchildren, Diana Bowman and Michael Normandin; 4 great-grandchildren; and other extended family members. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM, Mon., Dec. 7, 1998 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Conrad Cowart officiating. ODOM - Funeral service for Robert Eugene Odom will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the graveside in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. Mr. Odom, 76, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998. A native of Amber, OK, he had made Jacksonville his home for the past 18 years. He was retired from the U.S. Navy with 21 years of service and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. Survivors include his wife, Rosa Odom, children, Orville Michael Cline, Allen Lee Cline and Rosemary Kenny, a sister, Lois, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. O'BRIEN, SR. - Funeral services for J.P. O'Brien, Sr. will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday at ETERNITY FUNERAL HOME, 1650 Art Museum Dr., with Rev. Ken Pledger officiating. Mr. O'Brien passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 3, 1998, in a local care facility. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carrol O'Brien; four sons, James Ronald Powell, James Henry Rice, John Patrick O'Brien and James Floyd O'Brien; a daughter, Sharon Bunton and seven grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
REID - Bertram Samuel Reid, 89, long time civic leader and philanthropist died Thursday after an extended illness. Survivors include his wife Margaret Williams Reid, one daughter, Margaret Lucy Reid Jordan, two sons Bertram Samuel Reid, Jr. and Richard E. Reid (Rebecca) and two grandchildren, Matthew S. Reid and Kelly J. Earick (Wayne). A native of Cordele, Georgia, 1931 graduate from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science Agricultural Engineering Degree (the first issued by the University of Georgia) An accomplishment of which he was extremely proud was the title of Dean of Snooker Pool at the University of Georgia. He moved to Florida in 1933 and as a salesman for Mack Trucks and Farm Equipment for 10 years, with 2 partners in 1943, he reorganized R-C Motor Lines and was President until retiring in 1973. He then became a real estate broker. Mr. Reid was a deacon and past chairman of the Finance Committee of Riverside Baptist Church. Mr. Reid's past directorships and trusteeships include Stetson University, Baptist Hospital of Jacksonville, Southern Baptist Hospital of New Orleans, Baptist Home for Children, Boy Scout of North Florida, and Bolles School. He was an organizing member of the Board of Directors of The State Bank of Jacksonville, 1955, and subsequent merged banking companies including the Sun Bank. He is a Trustee Emeriti of Sun Bank of North Florida. Mr. Reid served on the Board of Governors - Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Reid was past President of Florida Trucking Association and Former Florida State Vice President of American Trucking Association, Washington, DC, a position he held for twelve years. He was a member of Governor Farris Bryant's Florida Council of 100 and Chairman of the Labor Management Relation Committee. He was instrumental in planting the seed that became Baptist Medical Center. He was approached by W. K. Hatcher and Terry Parker to take over a faltering campaign that was the start of Baptist Medical Center. Under his leadership, the capital campaign raised more than $750, 000, making the largest campaign in the history of Jacksonville at the time. In the early 1970's through Mr. Reid's generosity, Baptist was able to purchase its first CAT Scanner. Mr. Reid also donated the Reid Chapel in honor of his parents, Arthur and Velvie Guthrie Reid. In the early 1980's Mr. Reid donated the Reid Orthopedic Building on San Marco Boulevard to the Baptist Complex. He was Trustee Emeriti of Jacksonville University and a member of the Order of the Dolphin. Mr. Reid donated the Reid Medical Science Building at Jacksonville University. Mr. Reid also endowed academic scholarships to the University of Georgia and to Stetson University. Mr. Reid was co-chairman of the Citizens Jetport Advisory Committee which selected the new site for what is now Jacksonville International Airport. He is a member and past president of Meninak Club. He was a former member of the Board of Directors and past President of the River Club, former member of the Board of Directors and Treasure of Timuquana Country Club, member of Ponte Vedra Club and Deerwood Country Club. He also was past president of the Jacksonville Bulldog Club. Funeral Services will be Monday 11:00 A.M. at the Riverside Baptist Church, 2650 Park St. with Dr. Jack Snell of the Hendricks Ave. Baptist Church officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Pat Reid, Brent Reid, Robert Williams, Clifford Trunick, Chip Brickel, and Tommy Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Emeriti Trustees and Trustees of Jacksonville University, and Trustees of Baptist Medical Center. STATES - Shirley G. States, 63, passed away December 2, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Ken; one daughter, Linda Connelly; one son, Walt; two grandchildren, Adam and Jessica; two sisters, Patty Yocum of Warren, OH and Sandy Cypher of Huntingdon, PA; three brothers, Bud Goss of Huntingdon, PA, Dean Goss of Cocoa Beach, FL and Ed Goss of Monroe, NC. Shirley was a faithful servant for many years. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Orange Park Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She and her husband moved to Middleburg two years ago from Spartanburg, GA. She was a member of First Christian Church of Starke. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Ronald V. Thomaston; two daughters and sons in law, Glenda and Bruce Appling, and Brenda and Buster Appling; a sister, Ruth Black; two sisters in law, Janice Golden and Annelle Black; four grandchildren, Troy, Gwen, Scott and Kelley.
