Betty Ann Allen
(September 25, 1929 - October 11, 2011)
Betty Ann Allen, 82, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011. She has been released and is in the arms of God; absent from the body and present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Mrs. Allen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in June 2010. She was born on September 25, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia but lived most of her life in Jacksonville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Cheryl Ann Allen, a granddaughter, Julie Allen, sister, Adeline Whitehead and brother, Jim Miller. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Jack O. Allen; their children, Cindy Pamasa (Roland), Billy Allen, Robin Lawson, Tim Allen (Lisa), Tom Allen (Jane) and Willie Lawson, Jr.; two sisters, Helen Wilson and Marilyn Sanders; one brother, Bo Miller (Barbara); 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind many friends and relatives to remember her sweet and giving spirit. Mrs. Allen was a longtime member of Riverview Baptist Church and Gardenview Baptist Church. She was proud to be a Greeter at Gardenview and she was perfect for the job. Mrs. Allen was a talented floral designer for many years before her retirement from Hurst Florist. She enjoyed traveling, reading, jewelry making and crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with her family and took many family vacations over the years. Many warm memories were made during these times and will be cherished by her family. She took special joy in remembering the children on every holiday or occasion, making little packages of treats and delivering them to each one. She was truly a virtuous woman (Proverbs 31). Mrs. Allen’s family extends special thanks to the caring staffs of Lakeside Nursing Home and Community Hospice of Northeast Florida and to Gwen Hardy, her in-home caregiver. Contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in her memory are welcome. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm Saturday, October 15, at Gardenview Baptist Church, 3139 North Armsdale Road, with Rev. Rodney Keith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday (Today) at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Avenue.

Gertrude Mills Seymour
(October 31, 1923 - October 13, 2011)
SEYMOUR, Gertrude Mills Seymour, 87, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011. Mrs. Seymour was a native of Goldsboro, NC and received her Bachelor's Degree from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. Gertrude and her husband, William B. (Bill) Seymour moved to Jacksonville in 1960. She had been employed with Atlantic Coastline Railroad and later with Fisher and Associates Architectural Firm. She was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church where one of her greatest pleasures was singing in the choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 1993. She is survived by her 2 sons, Greg Seymour and Glenn (Christine) Seymour and 2 grandchildren, Kristyn Taylor Robinson and Robert Seymour. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 17th in the Chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. with Dr. Al Washburn officiating. Following the services she will be placed next to her husband at Arlington Park cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida.

Wallace Douglas Harden
(September 24, 1931 - October 17, 2011)
U.S. Veteran - HARDEN - Wallace Douglas Harden, 80, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Dorothy. Mr. Harden will be remembered for truly loving his family. He was a man of incredible faith. His spiritual life was extremely important to him. Mr. Harden was a man of principle, integrity, and true to his word.
He was predeceased by his sister, Jackie Harden Ballard; and a stillborn son (10/23/1954). In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Mr. Harden is survived by his sons, Douglas Harden ( Frances ) and Wallace Donald Harden (Samantha); 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday (TODAY), October 19th at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave. Mr. Harden’s Funeral Service will start at the conclusion of the visitation at 6 p.m. with Rev. Gary Tarleton officiating. There will be a private graveside service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Wesley Fellowship, 5400 Pearl St ., Jax 32208 or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.

Daniel Matthew Urbanus
(September 30, 1924 - October 19, 2011)
URBANUS - Daniel Matthew Urbanus died peacefully Wednesday, October 19, 2011. He was 87.
He was born and raised in Chicago, the son of Alexius Mathias and Rosemary Urbanus. Following service in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Florida, he married Mary Mabeline Smith, and the couple moved to Washington, DC, where in 1950, Mr. Urbanus obtained a degree in architecture from Catholic University of America. Two of his four daughters were born during this time.
After graduation, the family moved to Jacksonville, where Mr. Urbanus began his career and completed his family. At the time of his retirement in 1987, he had worked at the architectural firm Reynolds, Smith and Hills for 35 years and was Associate Vice President and Administrator of the RS&H; Excellence Program.
Mr. Urbanus is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Mabeline; four daughters, Patricia Causey, Mary Beth Williams, Ellen Dixon, and Carol Greene; two sisters, Carol Boyle and Rosemary Urbanus; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Ralph Urbanus and Alexius Urbanus.
A funeral mass will be con-celebrated 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 121 E. Duval St., with Fr. Edward W. Murphy, Celebrant and Fr. Warren Keene, Con-Celebrant. Interment at Jacksonville National cemetery at a later date.

Lucille Banks Raulerson
(November 16, 1914 - October 21, 2011)
RAULERSON - Lucille Banks Raulerson, 96, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011. She had retired from King Edward Cigars after 27 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Whitehouse Branch, and had been a homemaker since her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband, Claude R. Raulerson in 1993. Surviving family includes: her daughter, Dolores Horne; a sister, Alla Mae Davis; 3 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave., Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 25 at 11:00 AM at Oakwood cemetery in Hilliard, FL.

Beverley Ann Dixon
(August 7, 1928 - October 23, 2011)
DIXON - Beverley Ann (Parker) Dixon, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, October 23, 2011. Born in Lynchburg, VA, August 7, 1928, Mrs. Dixon was a long time resident of Huntington, WV and Richmond, VA and had moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1986 with her husband's transfer with CSX Transportation. Mrs.Dixon is survived by her husband of 63 years, William J. Dixon, Jr. She is also survived by her son, William J. Dixon, III (Linda) of Jacksonville, FL and two grandchildren: Aimee E. Johnson (Paul) of New Bern, NC and Chris C. Dixon of Baton Rouge, LA. She has 2 great-grandchildren: Meghan E. Johnson and Zachary P. Johnson. Mrs. Dixon was predeceased by her sister, Frances Cohen (Dan) of Raleigh, NC and is survived by her sister, Kitty Rose Case (Mac) of Richmond, VA and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to St. Paul United Methodist Church (8264 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211) or a charity of your choice.

Norma Lee Walling
(December 7, 1925 - October 16, 2011)
WALLING - Norma Lee Chaney Walling, 85, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011. She was a native of Birmingham, AL and had made her home here in Jacksonville for most of her life. She was a member of Cedar Bay Baptist Church where she served as church organist and secretary for many years. She was also Past Worthy Matron, Riverview Lodge, #265 Eastern Star and Past President of the Rebekah Assembly of FL, IOOF, Queen Esther #16. Mrs. Walling was predeceased by her husband, William B. Walling, Jr. in 1987. Surviving family includes: her daughters, Pamela Moody (Ronald), Belinda Walling and Gwenn Wilds-Muller (Bill), a sister, Jerry Ann Edge; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave., with Pastor Bill Tyler officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Tuesday (TODAY), from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

JOHNSON - Thomas A. Johnson, 90, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011. He was a native of Tabor City, NC having lived in Jacksonville for many years. Mr. Johnson was a retired Boilermaker and a member of Old Plank Road Baptist Church, 8964 Old Plank Rd., where funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Larry McGinley officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Mr. Johnson surviving family includes: his daughters, Mary (David) Carlisle and Judy (Jesse) Mejais; sons, Mickey and Gene Johnson; sister, Irene Hardee; brother, John Johnson, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Betty Jean Claxton
Funeral services for Betty Jean Claxton, 72, will be held at 11:30am Saturday, January 21, 2012, from the graveside in Arlington Park cemetery, with Rev. John C. Haney of Arlington Park Methodist Church officiating. Born November 30, 1939 in Dade City, Florida, Ms. Claxton died Friday, January 6, 2012 in a local hospital. She was a member of the Baptist Church and was a retired secretary in the Insurance field. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Judy D’Angelo (Doug), Mrs. Cora Hartle (Mark), and Mrs. Vicky Cochrane (Dwight); and two brothers, John Charles Claxton (Cheryl) and Dean Claxton (Janice). Funeral arrangements are under the direction of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S.

Everett P. Comstock
March 6, 1938 - February 5, 2014
COMSTOCK - Everett Patrick Comstock, 75, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. His generosity was exemplified by the fact that he was an organ donor. Mr. Comstock is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Comstock; daughters, Amy Donaldson and Stephanie Edwards (Ryan); son, Shane Comstock; sister, Jean Cockerill; brothers, Byron Comstock (Christina), Terry Comstock (Patricia), David Comstock, and Kevin Comstock (Aileen); and grandchildren, Sean, Amanda, Benjamin, Tatum, Karson, Julia, and Levi Patrick. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15th at Christ The King Catholic Church, 724 Arlington Rd. Mr. Comstock’s ashes will be buried in Jacksonville National cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 17th with Military Honors. David Wayne Johnson
David Wayne Johnson, 58, who died March 25, 2012. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the Baptist faith and was a veteran having served in the U. S. Army. He was an Iron Worker by trade. Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Kathryn Johnson; 5 sons, Joseph Nash, Johnny Johnson Sr., Johnny Johnson Jr., Joshua Johnson and David Johnson; 1 sister, Betty Smith; 6 brothers, Charles McTyre (Loretta), Edward Johnson (Elizabeth), Ronnie Johnson, Johnny “Junior” Johnson, Walter Johnson, and David Johnson. 1 granddaughter, Dakota Johnson. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 PM at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4747 Main Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32206

Verna A. Herndon
Funeral services for Mrs. Verna A. Herndon, 96, widow of Harry C. Herndon, Sr., will be held at l:00pm Thursday in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South, with Rev. William C. Crook officiating. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, from 11:00am until 1:00pm prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery. Born June 14, 1915 in Lowndes County, Georgia to Clarence and Cornelia Allbritton, Mrs. Herndon passed away at her home in Jacksonville and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 1, 2012. She is survived by three sons, Harry Carlton Herndon, Jr. (predeceased by wife Jane) of Leesville, South Carolina, Rev. Thomas V. Herndon and wife Ann of Carthage, North Carolina, and Richard M. Herndon, Sr. and wife Kay of Avon Park, Florida; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Herndon was a graduate of Valdosta High School and GA-FL Business College. She worked for the F. W. Dodge Co. for many years, before going to work for McGraw Hill where she retired in 1977. She was a long time active member of Kernan Boulevard Baptist Church and will be missed greatly by her family and many friends. She will also be greatly missed by two dear relatives, Mrs. Linda Novik and Mrs. Eunice McQueens. The family would like to thank Community Hospice of Northeast Florida and Comfort Keepers for the kind and loving care that was given Mrs. Herndon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32257.

William L. "Bill" Arthur
William L. “Bill” Arthur, 88, of Jacksonville died Wednesday, January 4, 2012. He was born August 4, 1923 in Lenoir, North Carolina, one of nine children of Guy Monroe and Lillian Creech Arthur.
Before retiring from the U. S. Navy, Bill saw action in the Atlantic and on Okinawa and other islands of the Pacific during World War II. On the day of armistice ending the Korean Conflict in 1953, he was chief of an aviation ordnance crew on the USS Lake Champlain.
Being an expert marksman, Bill served on the 5-member Navy team that took the 1953 military championship at the Cheetham Wilson Memorial shoot. He was a member of the gold medal U.S. military team at the 1954 World International Championship in Caracas, Venezuela, and was an individual bronze medal winner at the same event.
He was a member of the Jacksonville Gun Club. After a career of various international and state shooting honors, Bill was inducted into the Florida Skeet Hall of Fame in 1997.
After retiring from twenty years in the Navy, Bill worked from the mid-1960s to 1970s with several local businessmen’s clubs, including The River Club. He was a member of the Isle of Faith United Methodist Church.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Butler Monroe Arthur and by two children and their spouses, Lee Gallo and Alan Burrell, and William L. “Buddy” and Ann Arthur, and was preceded in death by his son Guy D. Arthur. He is also survived by three stepsons and their spouses, Van S. and Jane Monroe, John R. Monroe, and Gregory B. and Linda Monroe.
Bill was blessed with nine grandchildren and their spouses--William and Stacye Gallo Jr., Emily Arthur-Douglass, William L. Arthur IV, Richard and Edie Arthur, Stephen and Vicki Monroe, Michael and Anne Monroe, Richard Monroe, Jennifer and Tony Dillon, and Jessica Monroe McCormick. Bill’s seventeen great-grandchildren will also miss their Papa dearly.
On Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 2 p.m. a funeral service will be held at George Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd. South, officiated by Rev. Aaron Ankeny, pastor of Isle of Faith United Methodist Church.
Visitation with the family will be held beforehand, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home, and interment will be at Greenlawn cemetery.

Daniel McArthur Shepherd

SHEPHERD - Daniel McArthur Shepherd, May 20, 1942 – July 9, 2007. preceded in death by his wife, Eulice Eleta Shepherd; parents Myrtle and Woodrow Shepherd; siblings, Ronald Shepherd, Garlen Shepherd, and Leola Howard. Survived by sons, Daniel Shepherd, Jr. (Angela) and their two sons, Codey and Cory of Keystone Heights, FL, Darren Shepherd (Adrianna) of Atlanta, GA, and Derrick Shepherd of Orange Park, FL; brothers, Raleigh Shepherd of Jackson, KY, Don Shepherd of Orange Park, FL, Lawrence Shepherd of Richmond, KY, and Fred Shepherd of Jackson, KY. FURR - Athens Lamar Furr, Sr. 82, passed away Saturday, July 14th at his home, Country Living Care in Lawtey, FL. He was a member of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Starke, FL. He leaves to mourn a host of friends and staff of Country Living Care; devoted friend, Mattie Lou Perry; devoted caregiver, Turosia Evette Bright; his physician, Dr. Joell Simon and staff of E&M; Medical in Starke, FL. Funeral services in celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 18th at JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL. Mrs. Marr was born on June 18, 1917 in Savannah, Georgia and went home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2007 in Orange Park, Florida. Mrs. Marr was a faithful member and worker of the South Gardens Christian Church of Savannah, Georgia where she taught the ladies group and sang in the choir. Mrs. Marr relocated to Orange Park, Florida and has been a dedicated member of the First Christian Church of Orange Park. Mrs. Marr was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, William Madison Marr, Jr. In 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Marr Cameron; two grandchildren, Sherry Pettigrew and Kim Goodell and her husband Robert; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Copeland (Tina), Amy Peavey (Chip), and Bobby Goodell; five great-great-grandchildren, Savannah, Cheyenne, Becca, Christopher, Jr. and Alyssa, and many other loving family members and friends. The two most important things in Mrs. Marr’s life was Jesus Christ and her unconditional love for her family as she was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. GOSS - George Wayne Goss, 72, born in Ashe County NC, passed away Wednesday, July 11th in Orange Park, FL. He served in the US Navy and retired as an Air Traffic Controller and from the IRS. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; 8 children, Mike, Rex, Sandy, Ron, Bill, Jana, Lisa, and Patty; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Gene, Dean, Jim, and Steve; 1 sister, Carol.
