ANNIE LOUISE KNIGHT
Mrs. Annie Louise Knight, 73, of 818 Mercedes Ave., died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999 in a local nursing facility. She was a native of Youngstown, Fla., but had been a longtime resident of Panama City. She attended elementary and senior high school in Bay County. As a School of Cosmetology, Florida A&M College graduate in 1945, upon her death, she had given some 50 years of dedication to this profession. She worked diligently and relentlessly. She was united in holy matrimony to Tance Edward Knight Sr. who preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1988. She was a devoted and loving mother. She was held in high esteem by her friends because of her commitment and trustworthiness. At the age of four years old, she was led to Bethel A.M.E. Church overtown, and here she began her Christian walk. In later years, she served on Usher Board No. 1 the Laymen's Organization, and the Missionary Society as a member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church. She participated for 20 years in Canglelight Social and Service Club, either as president or as a member. She received many awards: the "50 Year Dedicated and Faithful Service Award" and the "Financial Support Appreciation Award for Homecoming" in 1991 from Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church and Candlelight's Best Ever Award in 1986. She leave to mourn her homegoing: daughters: Annie Jean (Alfonso) Richardson of Miami, Carolyn (K.C. Williams) of Panama City and Tampa, Joyce Knight of Miami and son, Tance Edward Knight Jr. of Panama City; step-daughter, Arletha (Emory) Lindsey of Englewood, N.J.; grandchildren: Wendelin Louise (Derrick) Anderson of Tampa and Angela Yvette Williams of Tampa; great-grandchildren: Lindsay, Shamaria and Joshua; devoted cousins: Robert Bryant of Panama City, Gwendolyn Meade and Lisa Bittings of New York City; aunts: Ruby Gayner, Beatrice Washington and Elnora Patrick; one sister-in-law, Thelma; two brothers-in-law: Ralph and Melvin; godchildren: Kevin and Kenya Randolph; longtime friends: Ms. Verdell Smith, Ms. Julia Donald, Ms. Vera Shamplain, Mr. Jeffrey Neal, Mr. Lynva Massleino, Jr. and myriad of other family members and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Knight will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. in Greater Bethel AME Church with the Rev. O.C. Williams, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will begin this afternoon at the funeral home at 1 p.m. A family hour will be held in Battle Memorial Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 7 p.m. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. Mr. Robert Gordon Llanos, age 67, 131 Sun Lane, Panama City Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999 at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area since 1994, moving here from Huntington Beach, Calif. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Mr. Llanos spent his retirement as an active volunteer for many organizations. He worked with Habitat for Humanity for five years and was involved in the construction of ten homes. He volunteered for the Council on Aging's Meals on Wheels Program, the St. Jude Association, Catholic Charities and the Junior Museum. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Flo Llanos of Panama City Beach, Fla.; daughters: Susan Galloway of San Diego, Calif., and Maria Llanos of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a son, Gordon Llanos and his wife Penny of Huntington Beach, Calif.; sisters: Theresa Wickham of Toronto, Canada, Jean Mew and her husband Freddie of Georgetown, Ontario, Jeannette Morgan and her husband Bill of Bramalea, Ontario, Margaret Ann Llanos of Ottawa, Canada, and Jennifer Llanos of Perth, Australia; brothers, Noel Llanos and his wife Eileen of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and John Ritchie and his wife Gwen of Issaquah, Wash.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at St. Dominic's Catholic Church with Fr. Marty Bratek officiating. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories. Mr. Willie Lee (Biscuit) Brundidge, 48, of 900 Bradley Circle, received his heavenly promotion Monday, Oct. 25, 1999 at Bay Medical Center. Affectionately known to everyone as "Biscuit," he was born July 12, 1951, in Troy, Ala., to the late Ruby Mae Brundidge and the Rev. Ballard Brundidge Jr. Biscuit attended Bay County Schools and went on to serve his country in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, he was employed with the City of Lynn Haven, where he has faithfully worked for the last 151/2 years. Biscuit was a member of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. He was an avid sports fan who never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with a hearty hello and a warm smile. A compassionate and kind-hearted individual would best describe Biscuit. Biscuit leaves many to cherish and remember the love he shared with them: a loving and devoted soulmate, C. Yvonne Johnson; father, the Rev. Lt. Col. William M. Cowan, retired, U.S.A.F., of 638 Driftwood Drive, Lynn Haven, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 at his home. He had been a resident of the area since 1972, coming here from Colorado Springs, Colo. He was Espicopalian by faith and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. Mr. Cowan was the past president of A.F.A., a Paul Harris Fellow in the Lynn Haven Rotary and past president, and former chief ground school instructor at Sowell Aviation. Mr. Robert Lee Exley, age 67, of 402 New York Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 in a local hospital. He was a native of Augusta, Ga., but had been a resident of Bay County for the past 32 years. He was co-owner of Fran's Travel, a decorated veteran of the Korean War serving with U.S. Army 3rd Airborne Rangers and a member of the V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Fran W. James Douglas (Pop) Johnston, 90, of Panama City, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 in a local nursing home. He was born in Barbour County, Ala., Dec. 22, 1908. He was a truck driver by vocation, living in various places in Alabama until he moved to Panama City in 1960. He then drove for McKenzie Tank Lines until he retired. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Hattie R. Johnston. Charles D. King, Sr., of Panama City Beach, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999 at his home. He had been a resident of this area since 1978. He was born in Elbridge, Tenn., on March 15, 1920. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He served his country as an Air Force pilot in World War II and the Korean War. He was a highly decorated liutenant colonel. He was awarded the Air Medal and two Distinguished Flying Crosses with Oak Leaf Clusters. He was the former owner of King Funeral Home in Obion, Tenn. He was past president of the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association, a representative in the Tennessee State Legislature, and held many other honors. He was a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class. Mr. King is survived by his wife, Martha Allen King of Panama City Beach; his daughter, Pamela Heidenreich of Tulsa, Okla.; his son, David King of Panama City Beach; two grandsons: Mike Avison of Morristown, Tenn., Shane Avison of Sevierville, Tenn.; one great-granddaughter, Shana Avison of Sevierville, Tenn.; one sister, Dorothy Hamilton of Fargo, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellie and Talmage King, and his brother, Harvey King. Margaret Crawford Blackman, 88, of Inlet Beach, Fla., formerly of Dothan, Ala., died Saturday morning Oct. 30, 1999 at the home of her daughter, Lucy Summers, 45 Holly Leaf Lane, Inlet Beach, Fla., after an extended illness. Mrs. Blackman was a native of Dothan, Ala., the daughter of the late Thomas Clarence Crawford and Ella Griffin Crawford. She lived most of her lifetime in Dothan before moving to Inlet Beach in 1991. She was a graduate of the Newton Baptist Collegiate Institute and Troy Normal College. Blackman was a lifetime member of the American Federation of the Blind and a former member of the Southeast Alabama Chapter of the Blind. She formerly owned and operated Blackman's Service Station in Dothan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Anthony Blackman. Mr. Walter Hubert Brandenburg, 78, of 305 Red Bird St., Lynn Haven, died Friday Oct. 29, 1999 at a local nursing home. He had been a resident of the area since 1991, after moving here from Trainer, Pa., and was Lutheran by faith. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Brandenburg was a retired Merchant Marine Engineer. He was the chief engineer of Maritime Service for Keytone Shipping Co. in Philadaelphia, Pa., and had also worked for Sun Oil Co. He worked in the shipping industry for a total of 34 years. He was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and M.E.B.A. He is survived by his wife, Millie Brandenburg of Lynn Haven; a daughter, Joyce M. Vignaux of Lynn Haven; a son, Richard B. Mr. Willie Lee (Biscuit) Brundidge, 48, of 900 Bradley Circle, died Monday Oct. 25, 1999 in Bay Medical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Willie Brundidge will be held today at 1 p.m. in Holy Temple Church of God In Christ with Elder W.C. Green, officiating. Interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at 900 Bradley Circle.

MARY ELLEN BRYANT
Mrs. Mary Ellen Bryant, 77, of Blountstown, died Thursday night, Oct. 28, 1999 at the Landmark Health and Rehab Center in Blountstown. Mrs. Bryant had lived in Blountstown for most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Gateway Baptist Church in Blountstown. Bryant was preceded in death by her daughter Linda "Penny" Wright. She is survived by daughter, Frances Graham of Pt. St. Joe; brother, Woodrow Aultman of Blountstown; sister, Ruby Crisson of Long Key, Fla.; five grandchildren: Waylan Graham of Panama City, Dianne and James Mock of Port St. Joe, Troy Wright of Lamar, Colo., Cindy Wright of Lamar, Colo., and Jamie Wright of Lamar, Colo.; three great-grandchildren: Jessica Mock of Port St. Joe, Jacob Wright of Lamar, Colo., and Shaylyn Wright of Lamar, Colo. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. CST at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Tim Bailey officiating. Internment will follow in the Nettle Ridge Cemetery in Blountstown. The family will receive friends Saturday night Oct. 30, 1999 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Peavy Funeral Home.

WILLIAM M. COWAN
Lt. Col. William M. Cowan, retired, U.S.A.F. of 638 Driftwood Drive, Lynn Haven, died Thursday Oct. 28, 1999 at his home. He had been a resident of the area since 1972 after coming here from Colorado Springs, Colo. He was Espicopalian by faith and served his country in the Air Force during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. Mr. Cowan was the past president of A.F.A., a Paul Harris Fellow in the Lynn Haven Rotary and past president, and former chief ground school instructor at Sowell Aviation. He is survived by his wife, John Ella Grigsby Cowan of Lynn Haven; his daughters, Patricia A. Yarbrough and Mary Hill van der Laan, both of Lynn Haven; two sisters, Mary Hill Warner and Hanah Weedon, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren: Kenney Wallace, William Yarbrough, Brian Yarbrough, Kris Van der Laan, Rachael Yarbrough and Lyndsey Van der Laan; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Bill Hunter officiating. Full military honors conducted by Tyndall Air Force Base. Mr. John Harmon, 68, of the St. Joseph Community in Chipley, passed away Thursday night, Oct. 28, at the residence of his daughter in Callaway. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph A.M.E. Church Chipley with the Rev. Claudia King and the Rev. Jeffrey Mills officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home, directing. The remains will lie in state at the church from noon today until time for the services at 2 p.m.

JAMES DOUGLAS 'POP' JOHNSTON
James Douglas "Pop" Johnston, 90, of Panama City, died Thursday Oct. 28, 1999 in a local nursing home. He was born in Barbour County, Ala. on Dec. 22, 1908. Johnston was a truck driver by vocation, living in various places in Alabama until he moved to Panama City in 1960. He then drove for McKenzie Tank Lines until he retired. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Hettie R. Johnston. He is survived by one son, Ed Johnston of Panama City; and three daughters: Emily Warnberg and her husband, Harry, of Lynn Haven, India Belisle and her husband, Albert (Buddy) of Panama City, and Paula Jane Pettit and her husband, Stan of Richburg, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Eloise Johnston of Dothan, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two nephews and one niece. Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 31, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Lewis Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers are Dutch Tieman, Tony Crittendon, Sid Singley, Bill Hall, Andy Amann and Richard Coiner. Honorary pallbearers are Preston Skinner, Barney Stanley, Art Butler, Arnold Winslett, Tom Coffey, Joe Hewett, Carl Woodall, the Billy Kirkland Sunday School Class and the Steadfast Sunday School Class. Mrs. Norma Wentworth Mathis, 77, died Friday Oct. 29, 1999 at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. She was born in Shady Grove, Fla., and was a former resident of Panama City and Los Alamos, N.M. She had lived in Pinetta, Fla., since 1976. Mathis was a homemaker and a school volunteer. She attended Florida State College for Women and was a member of Pinetta United Methodist Church, Pinetta, Fla. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Cowles of Tolland, Conn., and Rhonda Royston of Gainesville, Fla.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday Nov. 1, 1999 at 1 p.m. in the Pinetta United Methodist Church, Pinetta, Fla. Burial will be at Hendry Cemetery, Sandy Grove, Fla.

DOROTHY RUSSELL
Mrs. Dorothy Russell, 72, of 2938 Jenks Ave., Panama City, died on Oct. 25, 1999 in a Dallas, TX hospital. She had been a resident of Panama City since 1975 after moving here from New York. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary at Panama Country Club in Lynn Haven and was an active golfer up to three years ago. She was a member of the local chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire. She is survived by her husband, Dr. James Russell; her daughter, Dr. Linda Margraf and husband Dr. David Margraf of Dallas; her son, J. Michael Russell and wife Shu-Chi Chan of Boston, Mass.; and her grandchild, Rebecca Margraf. Following cremation in Dallas, there will be a memorial service on Friday, Nov. 5, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.
