He had been a resident of the area since 1993 coming here from Fort Walton. and was Catholic by faith. Msgt. Mandl served his country for 19 years in the U. S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Marissa Mandl of Callaway, Fla.; two daughters: Diezavel and Marielou Mandl, both of Callaway, Fla.; brothers: John Mandl and his wife Patty of Fairfield, Ohio, and Mark Mandl and his wife Carmen of Westminster, Md.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Abelardo and Yolanda Bognot of the Philippines; a niece, Heidi Mandl of Westminster, Md.; nephew, Robert Compton of Callaway; brother-in-law, Rodney Compton and his wife Angelita of Callaway; and close friends, Charlie and Betty Weeks of Panama City. MACIE LEE HARTZOG MASHBURN
Mrs. Macie Lee Hartzog Mashburn, 84, of Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at her home. Born in Coffee Springs, Ala., she was a lifelong resident of Panama City. She was a childcare worker at Hiland Park Baptist Church and retired after 36 years, as well as being a member of the church. Mrs. Mashburn is preceded in death by her husband, Barney Mashburn and a son, Barney Hilton. She is survived by three sons: Richard M. Mashburn and wife Sandy of LaPlace, La., C. Michael Mashburn of Atlanta, Ga., Carl L. Mashburn of wife Judy of Panama City; one daughter, Patricia "Pat" Joiner and husband Wayne and a special daughter, Barbara Fuson Adams and husband Billy all of Panama City; two daughters-in-law, Ann Mashburn of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and Elena Mashburn of Atlanta; two sisters: Ocie Bell of Valpariso, Fla., and Doris Avery and husband Kermit of Panama City; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted today, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. in Hiland Park Baptist with the Rev. Don Pickerill and Bro. Cliff West officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Barbara A. Miller, 83, of New York City, N.Y. died Tuesday, October 5, 1999. She is survived by six children: Priscilla Lovett of Southport, Roni Antennucci of Rochester, N.Y., David Miller of Syracuse, N.Y., Cynthia McCroy of New York City, Phyllis Hendrick of Long Island and Jackie Miller of Philadelphia, Pa.; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is predeceased by one son, Evan Miller. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, New York City, with sister Lorretta Carey conducting the eulogy. Eileen M. Owens, 42, of 2607 Ferol Lane, Lynn Haven, daughter of Colonel (USAF-Ret.) and Mrs. Robert Gregor, died Monday evening, October 4, 1999 of injuries sustained in a car accident. She was employed by Buffalo Rock and had formerly lived at Scott AFB, Ill., Tyndall AFB, Washington DC, Albrook AFB, CZ, and Colorado Springs, Colo. before settling in the Panama City area in 1972. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Colonel David L. and Ann Fleming of Brussels, Belgium; niece, Katherine B. Fleming of Orlando; grandmother, Mary M. Davenport of Tallahassee; and a aunt, Elizabeth Copeland and her husband, Dick of Cheshire, Conn.; three cousins: Jimmy Copeland and his wife, Bonnie and their children, of Cheshire, Donna Giacini and her husband Mark and their children of Hobe Sound, Christy Tomko and her husband Jack and their children of Cheshire. He had been a resident of the area for eight years, coming here from Jackson, Tenn. and was Catholic by faith. Ms. Jenelle Switzer, age 54, of 4105 Luff St., Panama City Beach, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999 as the result of an industrial accident. She had been a resident of the area for 25 years, coming here from Missouri. Ms. Switzer worked for Smurfit-Stone Container Company and was the Shop Steward of the Mill Support Dept. She was also the treasurer of Sunbird Condominiums for the Executive Board. She is survived by a daughter, Vanessa Serio and her husband Scott of Jefferson City, Mo.; her son, Scott Pogue of Panama City Beach; mother, Leila Ellis of Stockton, Mo.; father, Evert Switzer and his wife Barbara of Sunny Hills; a sister, Carol Allgaier of Kansas City, Mo.; and brothers: Randall Switzer of Joplin, Mo. and Charles Switzer of St. Paul, Minn. Deacon Sam Weaver, 83, of 144 Harlem Ave. died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999 in a local NursingCenter. He was a native of Troy Ala. and a resident of Panama City for many years. He was a 33rd degree mason and a member of West Star Lodge No. 102 Arcadia, Fla. He was a faithful member of Second Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church until his health failed. PASCO BELL SR.
Mr. Pasco Bell Sr., 79, of 1401 N. Palo Alto Ave. died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at his home. He was a native of Jackson County. Early in life the decedent accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Buckhorn Missionary Baptist. In 1957, he moved to Panama City where he joined St. John Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the Rev. L.P. Davis, and he remained a member until his demise. In earlier and more productive years, he was faithful in rendering service in his church and his community. However, later years of ill health rendered him incapable of giving the service of his more active years. During his youthful years, he spent much of his time working with youth in his neighborhood, organizing and managing a baseball team and working with them in other sports. During his lifetime, he was employed at Graham's Air Force Base in Marianna, and for thirty years he worked at Nelson Buick Company in Panama City. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons: Robert Bell of Tampa, Pasco Bell Jr., and his wife, Linda of Panama City, and Edgar Rudolph Bell of Miami; a daughter, Mrs. Neta Bell Scruggs and her husband, Leonard of Miami; a brother, Louis Williams and his wife, Bernice of Panama City; three sisters: Mrs. Alberta Barksdale and her husband, Bennie of Jacksonville, Mrs. Pearlie Garrett of Marianna, and Mrs. Susie Harvey of Tallahassee; one aunt, Mrs. Alberta Dixon of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother-in-law, George Wynn Jr. of Tampa; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Rosa Redding of Tampa; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and special friends, Charlie Brown and Casple Turner. She was a waitress at Martin's Five Point Restaurant, a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and the Bay County Council on Aging. Mrs. Sparks is preceded in death by her mother, Laura Mond and a brother, Gene Mond. Melvin Jones, 51, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away Oct. 5, 1999. Mr. Jones was born in Panama City, Fla., and later moved to Pensacola, where he continued to enjoy fishing, plants and singing the praises of God. At any early age, Melvin accepted Christ and became a member of Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church in Panama City, Fla. He also sang with the "Moment of Truth" Community Choir. He attended school in Bay County, but later moved to Pensacola, where he became a member of Gateway Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Juanita Jones, and a son, Le'Andre B. Jones. NANCY JOY NICHOLS
Nancy Joy Nichols died unexpectedly in her home in Panama City, Fla., Oct. 7, 1999. She had been a resident of Panama City for 30 years. Nancy was born in Hyde Park, Vt., Oct. 30, 1943, the daughter of Wayne and the late Doris Frost Small of Oakland, Maine. She is survived by her husband John R. Nichols Jr.; two brothers, Dale Small of Kittery, Maine and David Small of Augusta, Maine; a nephew, Lucas Small and a niece, Susanna Small, both of Kittery, Maine. Nancy graduated as a diploma nurse from Eastern Maine Medical Center in 1966. She received an associate's degree from Gulf Coast Community College in 1975 and a bachelor's degree in health education from the University of West Florida in 1978. In August 1971, she was employed at the Bay County Health Department as a clinic nurse. She served as a public health nurse in 1978, a public health nurse 2 in 1981, a Senior Community Health Nurse in 1988 and in 1995 became a nursing program specialist where upon she was instrumental in the development of the HIV program and clinic. She was a member of the Florida Public Health Association, The Florida Nurses Association, Tupelo Bee Keepers Association and the Panhandle A's Antique Car Club where she was serving as treasurer. Nancy will be remembered for her love of family and friends, for her sense of humor and for her willingness to always lend a helping hand. She especially enjoyed the children in her work at the clinic. Memorial services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Saint Andrew United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward Britton officiating. HAZEL WANITA MARTY YOCANO SPARKS
Mrs. Hazel Wanita Marty Yocano Sparks, who would have turned 79 years old on this Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1999, in a local hospital. Born in Parkersburg, W. Va., she was a longtime resident of this area. She was a waitress at Martin's Five Point Restaurant, a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and the Bay County Council on Aging. Mrs. Sparks is preceded in death by her mother, Laura Mond and a brother, Gene Mond. She is survived by two brothers: Kenneth Marty of California and David Mond and wife Judy of Homasassa Springs; four sisters: Bunnie Thompson, Mary C. Johnson, Ellen Arnold and Loretta Williams and husband Jay all of Panama City; two nieces: Sandra Winklemann and Susan Gantt; three nephews: Carmen Williams, Robert Johnson and Frankie Ozark. She is also survived by her loving little dog "Queenie." Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marshall Brown officiating. GRANT C. WILLIAMS
Mr. Grant C. Williams, 71, of 600 East 13th St. died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, in Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was a native of Lowndes County, Ala. He united with Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on Sept. 3, 1999, under the pastorship of the Rev. W.R. Walker. He attended the public schools of Bay County and was a graduate of Rosenwald High School. He served as corporal in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. After his military tenure, he continued his education at Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach, Fla., where he was a member of Bethune-Cookman College Wildcats football squad. He retired from Tyndall AFB after 30 years as a chef. Grant was joined in holy matrimony to the late Lillian Knight and to this union one son was born. He leaves a legacy of cherished memories with a faithful and devoted son, Grant Andre' Williams (Linda) of Panama City; a devoted cousin, Dudley Foster (Ann) of Panama City; a loving and caring mother-in-law, Mrs. Elmira King of Panama City; two sisters: Mrs. Clara Wood (Willie) and Rosa Gordon of Panama City; two brothers: Thomas Henry Williams (Laverne) of Maitland and Abraham Gordon (Gloria) of Eatonville; one uncle, Mr. Cephus Foster of Collirene, Ala.; one brother-in-law, Mr. Henry Knight (Gwendolyn) of Fort Lauderdale; a myriad of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and special friends: Grant Mahone, Motez Robinson Jr., Cee Roulhac, Bernice Carey, Vera Shamplain, and Ida Mae Orum. Services for Pamela Goff Churchwell, 29, 1605 Rhode Island, Lynn Haven, Fla., will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Amboy Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mrs. Churchwell died Saturday at Tift General Hospital following a sudden illness. She was born in Turner County, Ga., and had resided in Lynn Haven, Fla., for the last five years. She was the daughter of David A. and Lunelle Lamb Goff of Ashburn. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Panama City, Fla., and was a physical therapist assistant at Panama City HealthPlex. She was a former member of the Amboy Baptist Church and a 1988 graduate of Turner County High School. She attended ABAC and was a graduate of Valdosta State University and the Thomasville Technical School. Survivors include her husband, Mark E. Churchwell, Lynn Haven, Fla.; parents, David and Lunelle Goff, Ashburn, Ga.; a son, Kyle Hunter Churchwell, Lynn Haven, Fla.; and a sister, Tammy G. Newborn, Ashburn, Ga. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Perry Funeral Chapel.

MR. DAVID PRESCOT CLARK JR.
Mr. David Prescot Clark Jr., 81, of Dothan, Ala., and formerly of Panama City, Fla., died on Sunday, Oct. 19, 1999, after a short illness. Mr. Clark was born on Nov. 10, 1917, in the Big Creek Community near Rehobeth, Ala. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Clark began working at an early age for the Bay Line Railroad in Panama City, Fla. He held many different positions with the railroad. Upon his retirement, he was the traffic manager in charge of sales. Mr. Clark was very active in the community and civic affairs. He served as the past president of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce, member of the board of directors of the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Mr. Clark was also a member of the Panama City Rotary Club. He was committed to his community and helped to stimulate interest in transportation and its importance to the growth of the Panama City area. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Big Creek Methodist Church with the Rev. Herbert Whatley and the Rev. Earl Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in the Big Creek Church cemetery with Ward-Wilson Funeral Home directing. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening. All other times they will be at their residence on Denton Road in Dothan, Ala. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Big Creek Cemetery Fund. Mr. Clark is survived by: his wife, Gracie Clark of Dothan, Ala.; niece, Elouise Arnold of Dothan, Ala., and several other extended family members. Jewell Frith, 77, of 1220 Ohio Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., died at home, Oct. 10, 1999, after an extended illness. Mrs. Frith had been a resident of Lynn Haven since 1943 coming from Cottonwood, Ala. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was a member of the Lynn Haven Assembly of God and White Shrine of Lynn Haven. Richard Lee Perkins, 56, of 7131 S. Deerhaven Road, Panama City, Fla., died Oct. 10, 1999, at his home with his family after a long battle with cancer. He graduated from Oklahoma State University and was a supervising partner for Sonic Restaurants. Richard was an entrepreneur and had been in the restaurant business all of his life. He successfully built and operated 17 franchise restaurants for Ken's Pizza in the Midwest. He had been a resident of Florida for 15 years moving to Florida from Joplin, Mo. He was a member of the Forest Park United Methodist Church, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International.
