Chris Stokes Sr., 93, of Inverness, formerly of Crystal River, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000. Born in Melbourne, Ark., he moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore, Md. He was a retired lieutenant colonel for the Civil Service, Signal Corps. He was a member of Back River Methodist Church of Essex, Md., and a 50-year-member of Patapso Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite of Maryland.
Surviving are his sons, Terry Stokes of Baltimore, Md., and Chris Stokes, Jr. of Walls, Miss.; daughters, Doris DiBlasi of Philadelphia, Penn., and Janet Stokes of Granda Hills, Calif.; brother, John Stokes of Strasburg, Penn.; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Richard B. Hughs, 49, of Grapevine, Texas, son of Arnold and Eleanor Hughs of Rainbow Lakes Estates, Dunnellon, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at his residence. He was the CEO and president of Redifun Flight Simulators of South Lake, Texas.

Duane G. Kaniarz, 70, of Dunnellon died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Inverness. Born in Royal Oak Township, Mich., he came here in 1997 from Tampa. He was a retired building superintendent. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. He was Catholic.
He is survived by a brother, Rudolph Kaniarz of New Port Richey; and a sister, Theresa Fuss of Troy, Mich.

Flip Cochran, 69, of Citrus Springs died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at his residence under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. He was born in Murkirk, Md., on April 25, 1931, to Louis and Edna Mae Cochran. He retired to Citrus Springs from Greensboro, N.C., in 1991. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict. He retired from U.S. Air after 12 years of service as a mechanic.

Cora Alice Kanner, 81, of Beverly Hills died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000. She was born in Van Buren, Ark., and came to Beverly Hills in 1999 from Sanford, Fla. She was a retired office manager, and dispatcher and clerk of court for Casselberry Police Department. She was a member of First Christian Church of Sanford and the Ladies of the Elks in Sanford.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda English of Beverly Hills, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Herman R. Lane, 79, of Inverness died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at Avante at Inverness. Born in Albany, Mo., on March 7, 1921, he came to Inverness from Lecanto. He was a retired pathologist, a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was Protestant. He was preceded in death by his wife.

James Travis "Jamie" Whitley, 29, of West Palm Beach died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000. Jamie was born on Oct. 21, 1970, and came to West Palm Beach seven years ago from his native Rochester, N.Y. He was the owner and operator of Protech Medical Equipment Repair in West Palm Beach. He was also a semi-pro Motorcross racer. He was Methodist.

Richard Wayland Wimmer, 54, of Floral City died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Citrus Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. A native of Troutville, Va., he was born April 3, 1946, to John and Mary Wimmer. He moved to Florida five years ago from Baltimore, Md., where he retired from Crown Cork & Seal Company as chief shipping supervisor with 29 years of service. He was a member of Inverness Moose Lodge 2112 and VFW Post 2621 of Baltimore.
Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Gwendolyn (Beals) Wimmer; daughter, Michelle Lynn Wimmer of Floral City; parents, John and Mary Wimmer of Floral City; brother, John Wayne Wimmer of Baltimore, Md.; sister, Brenda S. Bishop of Inverness; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie M. Buck, June 9, 1999.

Betty Marie Zolman, 80, of Inverness died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000. She was born in Pontiac, Mich., and came to Inverness 11 years ago from St. Petersburg. She was a retired nursing assistant. She was Protestant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Zolman, in 1989.
Surviving are her son, David Zolman of Waterford, Mich.; three daughters, Sandy Zolman of Inverness, Judy Stem of St. Petersburg and Glenda Stephens of Pontiac, Mich.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ralph Bowden, 78, of Citrus Springs
Ralph D. Bowden, 78, of Citrus Springs and Holden, Maine, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in Ocala. He was born in Brewer, Maine, Feb. 20, 1922, the son of L. Harold and Helen (Clawley) Bowden. He served in the U.S. Army Medicorps 254th Engineers Sea Battalion. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He lived in Holden for 48 of his 54 years of married life. There, he built his own home and raised his children. He was self-employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the Order of Purple Heart of Bangor, Maine, the American Legion of Dunnellon, VFW of Citrus Springs and the DAV of Florida. He was also a member of the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 217 AF&AM of Orrington and Anoh Temple Shrine.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Bowden; three children, Bonita Turner and her husband Robert of Brewer, Maine, Stephen Bowden and his wife Brenda of Holden, Maine, and Melonie Folsom and her husband Galen of Holden, Maine; grandchildren, Heidi L’Heureux and her husband Robert of Scarborough, Maine, Tammie Turner and her husband Mike Madore of San Diego, Calif., Amy Turner of Portland, Maine, and Clint Folsom of Holden, Maine; two sisters, Marion Copeland of Bangor, Maine, Bertha Jennings of New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George Bowden.

Frank Campolo, 85, of Inverness died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Born in Palermo, Sicily, on Aug. 21, 1915, to Anthony and Concetta (Gallo) Campolo, he came here 24 years ago from Roselle Park, N.J. He was a retired supervisor with the Silica Quartz Company, and after retiring to Florida, he was a real estate agent in Inverness for several years. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish.
Surviving are his wife, Theresa Pitta Campolo; two sons, Louis of Egg Harbor, N.J., and Frank of Brick Township, N.J.; two daughters, Susie McNeil of Roselle, N.J., and Florence Vivers of Phoenix, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Rebecca Lee Simonson of Japan and Rita Rosillie of New Jersey; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., she was born Feb. 10, 1921 to Theodore and Marie Erlacher. She moved to Florida 13 years ago from Springfield, Mass., where she was a buyer and department manager for Forbes & Wallace Department Store in Springfield.
She is survived by one son, Arthur Dalton of Milford, N.H.; one daughter, Susan Smith of Floral City; one sister, Eileen Fringer of Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was a master pipefitter with the Exxon Oil Company with 24 years of service; a World War II U.S. Army veteran; a member of the Exxon Retirement Club and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, where he was formerly an usher.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sophie (Mauryey) Zenchak; and a sister, Mary Brudish of Hazleton, Pa.

Rossie Jane Allen, 86, of Crystal River died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at the Life Care Center in Lecanto. Born Sept. 15, 1914, to the late Newton and Josephine (Markham) Moore in Romeo, she came to this area 55 years ago from Romeo. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lecanto Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh E. Allen, who died in June 1986, and two brothers, Warner and Woodrow Moore.
She is survived by her son, Herbert Allen and his wife, Nancy, both of Citra; one brother, James Moore of Clarkson, Ky.; two grandchildren, Randy Nobles of Sarasota and Sandy Bolin of Crystal River; five great-grandchildren, Lilly, Jerry, Brad, Tyler and Brandon.

Claire Franklin Finley, 93, of Crystal River died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Crystal River Health & Rehab. Born in Morgan County, Ohio, on Dec. 11, 1906, to the late Charles and Sarah (Pugh) Finley, he came here 32 years ago from Sayre, Ohio. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Margaret Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Freeman Rasmussen Finley, who died Dec. 31, 1998.
He is survived by one step-daughter, Judy Kleiber of Crystal River; one sister, Iris Dezam of El Centro, Calif.; four nephews, Charles Edwin Finley, William Allen Finley, Gale Steven Finley and Mark Lewis Finley; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

A native of Nanticoke, Pa., she moved to Dunnellon from Fort Lauderdale in 1983 and moved to North Carolina in 1998. She was a former member of the Rainbow Lake Estates Ceramic Club. She was Catholic.
She is survived by one niece, Betty Baritell, and her husband, Fred, both of Raleigh, N.C.; one nephew, Robert Purcell and his wife, Kathy, both of Dublin, Ohio; one sister, Dorothy Purcell of Dublin, Ohio; four great-nephews, Michael, Mark, Eric and Brett; and one great-niece, Michele.

Born Sept. 14, 1931, to David Lewis and Dorothy (Caldwell) Johnson in Washington, Pa., she came to this area 17 years ago from Washington, Pa. She was a retired waitress. She was Protestant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Nyswaner, who died in 1986.

Joanne A. Higgins, 65, of Inverness, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000. She was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Boston, Mass. She moved to Inverness in 1977 from Miami. She worked in private nursing as a certified nursing assistant. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael D. Higgins, in 1987.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah L. Higgins of Chesapeake, Va.; three sons, Patrick D. Higgins Jr. of Newport News, Va., Mark A. Higgins of Inverness and Jeffrey V. Veron of Kelleen, Texas.; and two brothers, Jordan Altman and David Altman, both of Miami.
