Alma V. Carey, 92, of Crystal River died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Life Care Center in Lecanto. She was born to Sadie and Alfred Vashon on August 6, 1908, in Waterville, Maine. She moved to Gulfport, Fla. in 1956 and then to Crystal River five years ago. She was self-employed most of her life in retail sales and operated the Gulfport Casino Concession and Beach Stand for many years with her husband Spike. She was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 155, VFW Auxiliary 4864, MOC Auxiliary 76, The War Mothers of Pinellas County, VAVS Advisory Committee, Bay Pines VA Hospital, Pinellas County Extension Club and the Woodmen of the World Club. She was pre-deceased by her husband Augustus "Spike" Carey in 1981.
Surviving are her three sons, Richard and James Jack Carey, both of Maine, and Carey Perrell, of Crystal River; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one nephew.

Andrew Scott Cataldi, 25, of Indianapolis, Ind, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000. He was born in Queens, N.Y. on Aug. 19, 1975, to George and Stephanie Cataldi. Andrew was a former resident of Inverness. He attended the First Assembly of God in Inverness. He worked in the construction industry.

Horace "Tom" Chinnis, 69, of Floral City died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. A native of Phoenix, N.C., he came to Citrus County from Gulf Hammock. Prior to that, he spent many years in the St. Petersburg area. He worked in the automotive industry and his favorite hobby was clogging. Chad E. East, 28, of Murfreesboro, Tenn. died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, in Tennessee. He was born April 15, 1972, to Ronald and Deborah Paisley formerly of Hernando. He lived most of his life in Citrus County. He was a graduate from Lecanto High School. He was a fishing tour guide.

Mildred Ineson Evans, 84, of Lecanto, formerly of Floral City, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at her residence. A native of Acton, Mass., she was born Oct. 1, 1916, to the late Benjamin and Mildred Ineson. She came to Florida 28 years ago from Cambria Heights, N.Y. with her late husband, Herbert Evans, who preceded her in death June 23, 1981. She was a retired secretary, a longtime volunteer with the Citrus Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Hospice and Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are her son, Barry Evans of East Meadow, N.Y.; daughter, Dawn Arline of Floral City; three grandchildren, Carl Beck Jodi Evans and Adam Evans; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Zachary.

Robert Asa Gilstrap, 49, of Inverness died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000. He was born in Brooksville and was a lifetime resident of Citrus County. He was a 1969 graduate of Citrus High School, attended Central Florida Community College, was a cattle rancher, member of First Baptist Church in Inverness and a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He was the son of the late Robert N. Gilstrap, who died on December 11, 1974; father of the late Jade Amber Gilstrap, who died on June 15, 1999; and grandfather of the late Trent Raven Nolan who died on June 15, 1999.

Edward L. "Eddie" Harris, 56, of Crystal River died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lake City. He was born in Ocala and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a boilermaker stationed at the San Diego Naval Base serving aboard the USS Henderson. He was a pipefitter at Florida Power Crystal River plant. In recent years, he fished commercially in the area.

Katherine Groover MacDonald, 99, of Crystal River died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, in Crystal River. She was born in Thomasville, Ga. on Dec. 8, 1900, to Emma Carroll and Clinton D. Groover. She moved to Jacksonville in 1933 and had lived in Crystal River since 1995. She was retired after 33 years of service from the Florida State Inspection Bureau. She was a charter member of San Jose Baptist Church and enjoyed her hobbies of crocheting and arts and crafts.
Surviving are her niece, Gwen Rowe Grant of Crystal River, with whom she lived, and several other nieces and nephews.

Richard Roberts, 74, of Hernando
Richard "Dick" E. Roberts, 74, of Hernando died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at home under the loving care of his family and Hospice. He was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Clearwater, the son of the late Horace David and Alice Mae Tooke Roberts. He served in the Navy during World War II. Upon his return in 1946, he opened Roberts Greenhouses in Clearwater and later bought the Alice Mae Flower Shop from his mother, which he operated for a number of years. He moved to Citrus County with his wife, Natalie, in 1969 to begin Sky High Ranch. He served as treasurer of the Citrus County Cattlemen in the 1970s and was a member of the Church of Christ in Inverness.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Natalie Upham Roberts of Hernando; four sons, Richard J. Roberts of Boulder, Colo., William E. Roberts of Hernando, Louis J. Iserhardt of St. Petersburg, and William U. Iserhardt of Gainesville; three daughters, Alice R. Kendrick of Hernando, Katherine I. Osborne of Atlanta, Ga., and Lynn I. Lee of Memphis, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Helen W. Schmidt, 97, of Lecanto died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. She was born to Sarah and William A. Wright on Sept. 8, 1903, in Floral Park, N.Y. For nearly 60 years, she lived in Garden City, N.Y., and moved to Florida from Bayville, N.Y. four years ago. She as a housewife. She was Methodist. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Schmidt, in 1991 and sister Harriet Wright Rejaunier in 1996.

Francois "Francis" Cormier, 95, of Citrus Springs died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999. He was born in St. Paul, New Brunswick, Canada, and came to Citrus Springs 27 years ago from Waltham, Mass. Mr. Cormier worked for Waltham Watch Company as a watchmaker for 30 years. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Citrus Springs.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Catherine Bonica Cormier; and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph Simonich, 90, of Lubbock, Texas
Joseph Simonich, 90, of Lubbock, Texas, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Lubbock's Covenant Medical Center. He was born March 19, 1909, in Aurora, Minn., and married the former Mary Corlew. She died in May 1946. He retired from International Harvester as a supervisor with 30 years of service. He moved to Lubbock from Inverness in December 1998. He was a Catholic. He was an avid bowler and fisherman. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph D. of Geneseo, Ill., and Tom of Lubbock, Texas; one daughter, Mary Jane Wagner of Moline, Ill.; one sister, Kay Simonich of Aurora, Minn.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Luther David Tucker, 69, of Inglis died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, in Crystal River. Born in Woodruff, S.C., he moved to Inglis 26 years ago from Tampa, and was a retired planners-scheduler for Florida Power Corporation. Mr. Tucker served four years in the Navy and 16 years in the Air Force. Arthur Stanley Walters, 90, of Inverness died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999. He was born in Stroudsburg, Pa., and came to Inverness four years ago from Deltona. Mr. Walters was a retired boilermaker for Boilermaker Union Local, Stroudsburg, Pa.; 50-year member of the J. Simpson Africa Masonic Lodge, No. 628 F&AM, Stroudsburg, Pa.; and Scottish Rite Mason - 33 Degree. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Hattie Walters, who died in 1994.
He is survived by his cousin, Evelyn Schliestett of Inverness; niece, Sandra Reimer; and other nieces and nephews.
