Ellie M. Denny, 80, of Inglis died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Cypress Cove Care Center in Crystal River under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. She was born in Berlin, Germany, on March 7, 1920, to Helene and Paul Suske. She moved here from Lake City, Minn., seven years ago. She was a retired secretary. She was Lutheran. Surviving are her daughter, Deanna Zaboroski of Yankeetown; three grandchildren, Patricia Versigghel of Daytona Beach, Sherril Winkler of Westminster, S.C., and William R. Paul DuFour, 84, of Inverness
Paul Stanley DuFour, 84, of Inverness died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at the Citrus Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Utica, N.Y., on Dec. 19, 1915, to Arthur and Sabra DuFour, he came to Citrus County 10 years ago from Deltona. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Local No. 825 in New York. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Norma Duquette DuFour of Inverness; one son, Gregory A. of Huntersville, N.C.; two daughters, Karen Loger of Inverness and Mary Anne Lecce of Collinsville, Ill.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Raymond M. Jensen, 81, of Homosassa died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000. He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and came to Homosassa 10 years ago from Bronx, N.Y. Mr. Jensen was retired from New York City in air conditioning. He was a U.S. World War II veteran. Laura Jane Witherspoon, 69, of Hernando, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Brooksville in 1985 from Louisville, Ohio, before moving to Hernando in 1994. Mrs. Witherspoon was a volunteer at Brentwood. She was an avid skeet shooter and a member of the Gator Skeet and Trap Club, Gainesville and past member of the National Skeet Shooting Association. She was Protestant. She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Church. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Donald Lee Witherspoon Sr. of Hernando; son, Donald Lee (Judy Tsacrios) Witherspoon Jr. of Homosassa; daughter, Judy Schneider (Robert Perreault) Perreault of Homosassa; brother, Richard Moody of North Carolina; sister, Dawn Louise of Canton, Ohio; and four grandchildren. Thomas L. Reverend Metty, 67, of Citrus Springs, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in Lansing, Mich. Born in River Rouge, Mich., he moved here in 1972 from Taylor, Mich., moving to Citrus Springs in 1992. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a retired firefighter for the city of Taylor, Mich., after 15 years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council and the VFW, both of St. Petersburg. He was a former member of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, formerly served as deacon at Blessed Trinity Church and presently a deacon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church of Citrus Springs. Fred William Pluebell Sr., 64, of Dunnellon died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in Topeka, Kan. Born in Wheeling, W.Va., on May 23, 1936, to John and Beulah Pluebell, he came to this area 33 years ago from Takoma Park, Md. He was a nuclear engineer for Electric Power Systems of Orlando and was previously employed by Florida Power Corporation for 11 years. He was a member of the Victory Christian Center Church in Dunnellon. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Pluebell, in 1972. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Dorothy, of Dunnellon; one son, Fred W. She was a member of the Fourth Street Methodist Church in Aurora, Ill. and the Community Congregational Christian Church in Citrus Springs. She was wife of the late John A. Vanderlinden, who died in December 1969; and mother of the late Jack E. Vanderlinden, who died in 1984. He retired to Naples from Michigan Bell Telephone in the early 1970s. He moved to Citrus County from Naples one year ago. Born in Freeport, N.Y., on Feb. 11, 1910, to Adolphus and Emma (Combs) Golder, she came here in 1998 from North Providence, R.I. She attended Victory Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Lowell McInish, May 31, 1979, and a daughter, Mary Lou DePalma, Oct. 13, 1998. John Collins, 75, of Turners Falls, Mass.
John M. Collins, 75, of Turners Falls, Mass., died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at the Farren Care Center in Montague. He was born in Turners Falls, the son of John and Lillian (Maddern) Collins. He attended local schools in Turners Falls and was a 1943 graduate of Turners Falls High School. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, obtaining the rank of staff sergeant. While in the service, he was an air traffic controller at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Mass. He was an engineer for Boston & Maine Railroad for 33 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to working for the railroad, he was employed at Montague Rod & Reel and also at the Springfield Republican as a sports writer, covering local high school sports. He was a member of the Turners Falls Athletic Club and served the Newt Guilbault League for 25 years in many capacities such as coach, manager and player agent. One of the divisions of the league was named in his honor. He was an avid sports fan and was especially fond of high school athletics, and was often seen at many of the Turners Falls High School games. He loved Big Band music, cribbage and his rose garden. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church. Besides his mother, Lillian Collins of Turners Falls, he leaves his wife of 53 years, the former May Koziski; three sons, Gary Collins of Montague, Mass., John Collins, Kevin Collins both of Turners Falls, Mass.; two daughters, Karen Collins of Turners Falls, Mass., and Lori Pulaski of Swanzey, N.H.; one brother, Raymond Collins of Inverness; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. James Gibson Hicks, 59, of Inverness died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 20, 1941, to Gibson and Helen (Maske) Hicks, he came here four years ago from Suitland, Md. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant with 34 years of service, including the Vietnam era. During his Air Force career, he was an aircraft engineer with the District of Columbia Air National Guard, where he served for 31 years. Surviving are his wife, Mildred (Best) Hicks; two stepsons, David L. Richards of Inverness and Scott A. Richards of Mechanicsville, Md.; two sisters, Donna M. Frischholz and Shirley J. William J. Jennings, 90, of Lecanto, formerly of Beverly Hills, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Brentwood Health Care Center in Lecanto. Born in England, he moved here 15 years ago from Lantana, West Palm Beach, and was a retired executive in the building industry. He was Protestant. There are no known survivors. Sara S. King, 90, of Dunnellon died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Ocala Regional Medical Center. She was born in Enterprise, Ala., on March 19, 1910, the oldest of 10 children. She moved to Dunnellon in 1948 from Freeport, La. She was the retired owner-manager of the first florist shop in Dunnellon. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Dunnellon, where she taught a Sunday school class for 41 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee King, and a grandson, Lee Hargett. Surviving are three daughters, Cornelia Melin of Fort McCoy, Eleanor Fairchild of Winnsboro, Texas, and Bobby Ann Thornton of San Marcos, Texas; one brother, Mercer Sherrer of DeFuniak Springs; three sisters, Mildred Andrews of DeFuniak Springs, Elizabeth Eberhart of Seneca, S.C., and Bonnie Cason of DeFuniak Springs; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. Sabrina Marie Zacharias (nee Gribble), 22, of Custer Park, Ill., formerly of Crystal River and Ocala, died suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, in Custer Township, Ill., due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
