John A. ‘‘Jack’’ Riley, 65, of Hernando died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. He was born in Elco, Pa., on June 23, 1935, to John and Mary Riley. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended Cornell University and Florida State University. He also received special training at the FBI Academy. After 20 years of service, He retired as a captain from the Pompano Beach Police Department. He became a property appraiser in Broward County. He and his family moved to Citrus County in 1989. He was employed by Continental Appraisal of Citrus County. He was a member of the International Fraternal Order of Police. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Inverness.
Survivors include his wife Patricia ‘‘Patty’’ Riley of Hernando; four daughters, Mary Beth Riley of Coral Springs, Barbara and her husband Earl Catron of Coral Springs, Peggy and husband Richard Hoff of Plantation, Patty and husband Greg Rosset of Canton, Ohio; two sons, Art and wife Pat Devlin of Mantor, Ohio, Mike and wife Fran Devlin of Pittsborogh, N.C.; sister, Janet Mercier of Lauderhill; four grandchildren, Daryl Higdon, Michael Catron, Allison and Mickey Devlin all of Coral Springs; and great-granddaughter, Samantha Higdon of Coral Springs.

Jean E. Simerly, 75, of Citrus Hills died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at home. She was born in Gillespie, Ill., and came here 15 years ago from Michigan. Mrs. Simerly was a homemaker. She was a great wife, mother and dear friend to all who met her. She was Presbyterian.
Surviving are her beloved husband of 52 years, Kenneth W. Daisy Woznick, 91, of Lecanto, formerly of Beverly Hills, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Arbor Oaks Lodge in Lecanto. She was born in Bethel, N.C., and came here 25 years ago from Long Island, N.Y. In her earlier years she was a stenographer and most of the time was a homemaker. She was a lifelong avid reader and loved dancing. She was Pentecostal.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Michael Woznick of Lecanto, and a niece, Lexine Gill of Virginia.

Jacqueline "Jackie" Batchelor, 59, of Crystal River died Monday morning, Dec. 13, 1999, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital. She was born in Swainsboro, Ga., and came here 22 years ago from Perry. She was the banquet manager for the Plantation Inn of Crystal River, with more than 20 years of service.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Roger O. Batchelor of Crystal River; son, David R. Batchelor and wife Becky of Lecanto; daughter, Julie R. Batchelor of Beverly Hills; her mother, Cynthia Crowe of Davenport; brother, Richard Phillips of Plant City; sister, Jeanette Newberry of Macon, Ga.; and a host of loving friends.

Daniel W. Bloom Jr., 72, of Beverly Hills died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and came to Beverly Hills 10 years ago from Mount Pocono, Pa. He was a retired equipment manager at Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was past commander and state commander of the DAV, Chapter, 9, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He enjoyed woodworking and was actively involved in all sports teams, Boy Scouts and church choir. He taught round dancing and founded the Tic Toc Round Dance Club in Stroudsburg, Pa. He attended the Salvation Army Chapel.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Jane; three sons, Daniel W. III of New Zealand, William of Reeders, Pa., and Thomas A. of Carney's Point, N.J.; two daughters, Patricia Cadargan of Mount Pocono, Pa., and A. Nancy Hiravy of Stamford, Conn.; a sister, Ruth Hobner of Bel Air, Md.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mae Davis, 69, of Hernando died at home on Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, under the loving care of her family and Hospice. Born in Gad, W.Va., to Walter and Mabel McCutcheon on Aug. 21, 1930, she came here 12 years ago from Beckley, W.Va. She was a retired waitress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace E. Davis, who died Oct. 17, 1995. She was a member of the Hernando United Methodist Church.

She was a retired clerk with the office staff of Evander Child's High School, Bronx, N.Y., with 20 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish.

Rennie Gene Keller Sr., 51, of Crystal River died Friday morning, Dec. 10, 1999. He was born in Saginaw, Mich., and came here 21 years ago from Dade City. He was a medical technologist at Citrus Memorial Hospital. He was also an ordained minister, formerly serving as assistant pastor at the Crystal River United Methodist Church. He was a police chaplain while living in Oakdale, La., and was a deputy sheriff in Allen Parish. He was an avid golfer and a motorcycle enthusiast. He was a member of the Citrus County Chapter of ABATE. He was past master of the Inglis Masonic Lodge No. 324 F&AM.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Margaret "Peg" Keller of Crystal River; daughter, Kelly Holt (Barry) of Columbus, Miss.; sons, William Duane Keller (Twyla) of Lake Panasoffkee, Allen Gene Keller (Holly) of Beebe, Ark., and Rennie Gene Keller Jr. (Sandra) of Crystal River; mother and stepfather, Gertrude and Jerry Mole of Webster; brothers, Rex Keller of Texarkana, Ark., and Kim Keller of Tennessee; sister, Cindy Bullard of South Carolina; and six grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a volunteer teacher with Citrus County Schools Gifted and Learning Disabled Children for 19 years. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science degree in psychology and a graduate of the University of Chicago in the ASTP Program during World War II. He was co-author with his daughter of a forthcoming publication about study skills. He was a member of the Wall-Rives Post 58, American Legion and the Citrus County Art League. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Crystal River.

Born May 20, 1925, to Anna and Barney Wikan in Minneapolis, Minn., he came to this area 17 years ago from Naperville, Ill., where he was owner/operator of Cemcon Limited in Glen Ellyn, Ill. He was a retired civil engineer. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. He was a member of Nature Coast Model Airplane Club of Inglis, the Tri-County Flying Club of Dunnellon, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Illinois Society of Civil Engineers, where he was on the board of ethics. He was an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary of Crystal River, Flotilla No. 15-01. He was Protestant.

She was a retired teacher in New York City, N.Y. She was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Floral Park, L.I., N.Y. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Dwyer, in June 1999.

He was a law enforcement officer retiring as chief in 1968 with 32 years of service with New Jersey Department of Conservation, Fish and Game Division. He was a member of The Retired Officers Association of Citrus County and past board member of The Lake Improvement Association of Citrus County. He was Methodist.
