John G. Saya, 69, of Beverly Hills, formerly of Windsor, Conn., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Cypress Cove Care Center, Crystal River. Born in Hartford, Conn., son of the late Albert and Mary (Cedargren) Saya, he lived in Windsor, retiring to Florida in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army and had been employed by the former Combustion Engineering, now ABB of Windsor, retiring in 1987. He was a charter member of the Millbrook Golf Club and its men’s club.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Rita M. Saya of Ellington, Conn.; three nieces, Donna Sokolowski of St. Louis, Mo., Patty Saya of Middletown, Conn., and Susan Saya of Franklin, Mass.; three nephews, John Saya of Ellington, Conn., Donald Saya of Simsbury, Conn., and James Saya of Boston, Mass. He was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Albert and Murray Saya.

She moved here in 1988 from West Palm Beach. She was a licensed practical nurse at Avante at Inverness Nursing Home.

Maxine J. Forsgren, 68, of Homosassa Springs, formerly of Marion, Mich., died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River. She was born in Tustin Mich., Aug. 8, 1932, to Carl and Viva (Dean) Forsgren. She was employed by Bell Telephone Company in Cadillac, Mich., as well as the Holiday Inn in Indiana. Most recently, she served as a hostess at the Sugar Mill Restaurant in Homosassa. She had worked there for 14 years.
She is survived by her brothers, Kenneth (Alieta) Forsgren of Cadillac, Mich., and Kurt Forsgren of Lake City, Mich., as well as several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Marian E. Schabowsky, 66, of Lecanto died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at her residence under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. She was born in Baltimore, Md., Oct. 4, 1934, to Herman and Maude Watson. She came to this area 12 years ago from Pasadena, Md. She was a homemaker, having retired from Maryland National Bank in Have-de-Grace, Md., as a bank teller. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crystal River. One of her joys in life was singing in the church choir.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Robert L. Schabowsky of Lecanto; her mother, Maude C. G. Donald Brannan, 74, died at his home on Cedar Mountain, N.C., Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000. He was an electrical engineer and worked in the space program in Florida for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Cedar Mountain Community Center and initiated a class in bridge for the community.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, and sons, Donald W. Brannan of Grapevine, Texas, and Timothy C. Brannan of Chantilly, Va., their wives, Nancy and Jacqueline and grandchildren, Lera and Zachary.

Leonard Pedreira, 62, of Beverly Hills
Leonard M. Pedreira, 62, of Beverly Hills died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000. He was born in New Brunswick, N.J., to Leonard and Grace Pedreira. He came to Beverly Hills two years ago from Beaver, Pa. He was raised in Beaver, Pa. He was a 1956 graduate of Beaver High School and received his bachelor of science degree in commerce in 1960 from Grove City College, Grove City, Pa. He was a retired FBI agent, who served 23 years in Jacksonville, Newark, N.J., and Pittsburgh, Pa. Following his retirement, he was a self-employed contractor of special investigations for the FBI for three years before moving to Florida. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1956 as a candidate in the Platoon Leaders Course, where he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant upon graduation from college and completion of the PLC program. He served on active duty for three years in the 2nd Amtrac Battalion, Camp Lejeune, N.C., as a platoon leader, personnel officer, battalion adjutant and executive officer of the H&S Company. Prior to resigning his commission in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1966, he was promoted to Captain.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 155, Crystal River; 40&8, Crystal River; and Citrus County Sheriff’s ‘‘Grandpa Program,’’ where he was Grandpa Lenny at Citrus Springs Elementary School. He was a former member of the National Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers, Crystal River; Marine Corps League; past commanding officer of the Nature Coast Young Marines, Crystal River; Elks Lodge, Beaver, Pa.; past president of the Beaver Area Jaycees; Beaver County Chief of Police Association; Fraternal Order of Police, Rochester, Pa.; FBI Agents Association; and past member and chairman of the Board of Trustees, First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, Pa.

Emmett W. Slocomb, 83, of DeLand, formerly of Dunnellon, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000. He was born in New Church, Va., and moved to DeLand in July of this year from Dunnellon. He retired from the Civil Service, where he worked in supply for Homestead Air Force Base. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the Dunnellon Christian Missionary Alliance Church.

Stanley Douglas Underwood, 68, of Dunnellon died at home Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, under the loving care of his family. A native of Waynesville, N.C., he was born June 27, 1932, to Charles and Stella Underwood. He moved to Dunnellon six years ago from Homestead. He retired from the Bell South Telephone System as a manager with 25 years of service. He was a Navy Korean War veteran, and a member of American Legion Post No. 155 and River Gardens Baptist Church.

Della Geneva Schroder, 74, of Inverness died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at her residence under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Durham, N.C., on June 17, 1926 to Ben Lee and Maude Umstead, she came here in 1987 from Fort Lauderdale. She retired from Burdines Department Store in Fort Lauderdale as a sales clerk with 17 years of service. She was also a retired English teacher. She and her husband Hal have summered in Murphy, N.C., for the past 22 years. She was Methodist. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a great friend to all who knew her.
