He was a retired National Guard shop chief. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Royce Clifford Ward Jr., 82, of Hernando died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at his residence under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Bronx, N.Y., on Sept. 12, 1918, to Royce C. Ward Sr. and Madeline (Smith) Ward, he came here in 1987 from Setauket, Long Island, N.Y. He was a retired hospital lab technologist. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member and past president of the Inverness Eagles Aerie No. 3992 and a member of the VFW Post No. 4337, Inverness, where he served as senior vice, chaplain and honor guard. He was Episcopalian.
Surviving are his loving wife of 12 years, Karen (Thorpe) Ward; two daughters, Deborah Baron of Long Island, N.Y., and Dawn of New Hampshire; four stepsons, Gary Sharkey of Long Island, N.Y., Kenneth Sharkey of Virginia, and Ronald Sharkey and Wayne Sharkey, both of Long Island, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Christina Marullo of Hernando and Kathleen Atchley of Homosassa; one sister, Vivian Wauters of Staten Island, N.Y.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Delia W. Bugg, 87, of Inverness died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Brooksville Regional Hospital. She was born in Murry County, Tenn., on July 20, 1913, to Josie and James Westmoreland Sr. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Nashville, Tenn. She moved to Inverness in 1991 from Nashville. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Floral City and Creive Hall Church of Christ in Nashville.

Henry Arnold Hall Sr., 64, of Inverness died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. A native of Inverness, he was born Nov. 12, 1936, to Thurston and Ollis (Tims) Hall. He was the former owner of Hall & Wade Fill Dirt. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a life member of VFW Post 4337. He was a member of the Floral City Church of Christ.

John Rappise, 79, of Crystal River
John C. Rappise, 79, of Crystal River died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001. He was born in Garfield, N.J., on Oct. 15, 1921, to Joseph and Maria Rappise. He and his family came here 30 years ago from Prospect Park, N.J. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran serving in the China-Burma Campaign. He was a navigator and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the service, he began his career in the restaurant business. He owned and operated many over the years including Rita’s Luncheonette and The Buffalo Bar and Grill, both in South Patterson, N.J., The Villa Maria, Old Colonial Steak Pit, Johnny Stones Colonial Steak Pit and Skooter’s Grill all of Crystal River. He was preceded in death by his son, John B. Rappise, Aug. 6, 2000.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marietta ‘‘Met’’ Rappise of Crystal River; daughters, Marilyn DeVries of Cazenovia, N.Y., and Rita Rappise of Crystal River; sister, Rose Lomangino of Laurel, Md.; granddaughter, Lori and husband Tony of Crystal River; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends throughout the community. Born in Baltimore, Md., on July 7, 1938, to Walter and Evelyn (Benser) Ulrichin, he came to this area four years ago from Pasadena, Md. He was a retired master electrician with the Nevamar Corp. in Odenton, Md. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Elegante Pelican Pool League and the Crystal River Village Homeowners Association. He attended St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Crystal River. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Ulrich, Sept. 12, 1995.

Paul J. Schutt, 89, formerly of Crystal River died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Kirby Pines Nursing Home in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired vice president for Snap-on Tools in Kenosha, Wis. He was a 1932 graduate of Northwestern University and received his MBA in 1933. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta. He was on the board of trustees for four churches, most recently the First Presbyterian Church in Crystal River. He was a past board member of the Seven Rivers Country Club. He was founder of the Crystal River Users Group computer club and a 15-year board member at The Islands.

Mr. Spring was a retired financial clerk with the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church ELCA of Citrus Springs. He was a volunteer with Hospice of Marion County. He was a Neighborhood Watch volunteer with the police department. He loved golfing and bowling. He was active in his church. He loved to sing and was a member of a barbershop quartet. He was a craftsman in remodeling.

Frederick F. Dair, 76, of Beverly Hills died on Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at his home under the loving care of his wife and Hospice of Citrus County. He was born on Jan. 5, 1923, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Frederick and Marie Dair. Mr. Dair received his bachelor's and master's degree from Colgate University. He worked as a coach and teacher before retiring as an administrator for the Rome City School district in Rome, N.Y. He was a life member of the National Teachers Association. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific Theater. Mr. Dair moved to Beverly Hills in 1997 from Albany, N.Y. He was active with the Beverly Hills tennis club and was vice president of the Beverly Hills Craftsman's Guild. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister and his first wife, Phyllis. Donations may be made to Hospice of Citrus County.
