Charles Leroy Cates, 80, of Dunnellon died Frinday, June 16, 2000, in his home. He was a lifelong Floridian who came here in 1985 from Miami. He was the son of Pop and Irene (Watkins) Cates. He was a WWII Army Veteran.
He is survived by his son, Richard Arthur Cates, of Washington; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Tom Ayers, of Ocala; four brothers, two sisters and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, in May of 1999 and son Charles Wayne Cates, also in 1999.

Leona E. Churilla, 86, of Dunnellon died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at her home in Hills of Ocala in Dunnellon under the loving care of her family. She moved to Dunnellon 19 years ago from Pittsburg, Pa. She was a clerk typist for Continental Insurance in Pittsburgh, Pa., who retired in 1979 after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, John and June Churilla of Ocala; a sister, Anne M. Churilla of Dunnellon; several nieces, great-nephews, a great-niece and great-great-nephews.

Mae Vesperman Donleycutt, 83, of San Ramon, Calif., formerly of Homosassa, died Thursday, May 25, 2000. She was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and lived in Hudson before moving to Homosassa in 1987. She recently moved to San Ramon, Calif. She was a retired manufacturing supervisor. She was Protestant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Donleycutt, who died Nov. 4, 1992.
She is survived by her nephew, Richard Vesperman of San Ramon, Calif.

He was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Floral City VFW. He was Protestant.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, June Thomas Nixon of Inverness; son, Thomas H. and his wife Shelley Nixon, of Parkland; daughter Jeri Ann and her husband Steven Ziebarth, of Inverness; sister, Elaine Nixon of Inverness and six grandchildren; Sherri Stephanie and Kevin Ziebarth, Tim Kristen and Matthew Nixon.

She worked as a secretary until she retired and moved to Deltona. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona.

Mr. Sapotkin was a retired computer programmer for Dime Savings Bank of New York. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, Dunnellon North congregation.

He was a member of the Beverly Hills Community Church.

Albert Jennings Varney Jr., 82, of Crystal River died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at his home under the loving care of his wife and family. He was born June 12, 1917, to Albert and Myrtle (Sammons) Varney, pioneers of Williamson, W.Va. He came here 42 years ago from Abbeville, S.C. Mr. Varney was a music instructor, band director, professional musician and Director of Music and Fine Arts in the Citrus County School System, retiring after 27 years. He graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where he received his master's degree. Mr. Varney was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner (Hejaz Temple, Greenville, S.C., where he also played in the Shrine Band). He was founder of the Citrus County Concerts and past member of Kiwanis International Homosassa Chapter. He was a member of the National Music Educators Association. Mr. Varney was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crystal River. He was preceded in death by his four sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Gene (Adams) Varney of Crystal River; three sons, Russell and his wife Cindy Varney of Temple Terrace, Mark and Brad Varney both of Crystal River; one daughter, Elaine Varney Panuska and her husband Robert of Nova Scotia; and three grandchildren, Matthew and Cass Panuska and Adam Varney.

Pauline Elizabeth Williamson, 66, of Inverness died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. She was born in Bayhill, on Feb. 17, 1934, to George and Nettie (Knight) Morris. She came to Inverness eight years ago from Homestead. She was a bartender for various VFW and Elks clubs.
Surviving are her husband, William P. Williamson of Inverness; two sons, Terry Ellison and David Belding; one daughter, Diana McLean; one brother and one sister; and two grandchildren.

Lucien Burgy, 96, of Inverness
Lucien Burgy, 96, of Inverness died on Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Mariner Health Care in Boston. He was born in Pfastatt, France, on July 22, 1903, the 13th child of the late Jacob and Frances (Hartman) Burgy. Raised and educated in France, he came to the United States in 1922. A resident of North Chicopee, Mass., for 30 years, he came to Inverness in 1970. He was employed by Daniel O'Connell and Sons Constuction Company in Holyoke and became general foreman for the Holyoke Water Power Company before his retirement in 1970. He was a 50-year member of the South Hadley Falls Congregational Church. He was a member of the Mount Holyoke Lodge A.F. and A.M. and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He received his 50-year veteran medal from the Grand Lodge of Masons in Boston.
Surviving are his son, Donald T. Burgy and his wife, Joy Renjilian-Burgy of Wellesley; two grandsons, Lucien B.S. Burgy and Sarkis B.S. Burgy. He was preceded in death in 1974 by his first wife, Helen (Stebler) Burgy, to whom he was married for 50 years, and in 1999 by his second wife, Cecile (Mercier) Burgy.

Tilly Anderson Coe, 81, of Hernando died Monday June 19, 2000. She was born in Quitman, Ga., to Phillip and Effie Anderson and came to Hernando in 1971 from Sarasota, where she was a teacher for 25 years. Upon retiring to Citrus County, she worked as a Realtor for 19 years. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Gamma Sorority. She was a member of the Hernando United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Wallace Leland Coe Sr., who died in August 1981.
Surviving are her two sons, Wallace L. Coe Jr. of Gainesville and Philip S. Coe of Fayettesville, Ga.; daughter, Miss Dolores Coe of Tampa; two sisters, Helen Thomas of Hernando and Phyllis Smith of Inverness; eight grandchidren, Aaron, Sarah, Iris, Nathan, Adam, Allison, Alex and Allen; and four great-grandchildren.

Helen Lake Norris, 85, of Crystal River died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at Shands Medical Center in Gainesville. She was born April 22, 1915, to Leamon and Merle (Bennett) Lake in Hartford, Ky. She came to Crystal River 24 years ago from St. Petersburg, where she had lived since 1956. She was a retired bookkeeper and secretary, working with her husband who owned the Norris & Lake Pump Service. She was a member of the Central City High School Alumni Association. She belonged to the Crystal River United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Kenneth Norris of Crystal River; daughter, Norma Hemminger of Lighthouse Point; son, David Norris of Crystal River; brother, W. E. Lake and wife Sarah of St. Petersburg; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He came to Citrus County 22 years ago from Hinsdale, Ill. He was a retired general agent for the American United Life Insurance Co. He was a member of St. Scholastica Parish in Lecanto. He was preceeded in death by his devoted wife, Virginia, who died on Oct. 25, 1990.

Marilyn Lee VanNortwick, 66, of Lecanto died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at the Brentwood Health Care Center in Lecanto. Born in Detroit, Mich., on Jan. 20, 1934, to Harry C. and Elsie (Crugar) VanNortwick Sr., she came here in 1958 from there. She was a resident of the Key Training Center in Lecanto, where she assembled plastics and assisted in the garden center. She was Baptist.
Surviving are her niece, Charlotte Pratton of Inverness; nephew, Michael VanNortwick of Novi, MI.; cousin, Sally Smith of St. Augustine; many friends from the Key Training Center, including the Burns Cottage residents. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry C. VanNortwick, who died in June 1981, her mother Elsie VanNortwick, who died March 13, 2000, and her brother Harry C. VanNortwick Jr., who died June 6, 1997.

Richard Joseph Danehy Sr., 76, of Citrus Springs died Friday, June 9, 2000, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Cambridge, Mass., he came here in 1998 from Arlington, Mass.
Mr. Danehy worked 20 years as security officer for banks before retiring in 1995. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Danehy of Dunnellon and Richard Danehy Jr. of Citrus Hills; one daughter, Deborah Robbins of Cambridge, Mass.; one brother, Joseph Danehy of West Haven, Conn.; three grandchildren, Robert, Richard and Melissa; and three great-grandchildren, Robert Jr., Casey and Vanessa.

Stella Thomas Watson, 97, of Inverness died Sunday, June 18, 2000. She was born in Lithuania and came to Inverness 40 years ago from South Bend, Ind.
Mrs. Watson attended school in Moline, Ill. She was a pioneer member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness, and a member of the Catholic Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Mr. Stanley Thomas and Mr. Watson.
