Joseph Shmelter, 99, of Beverly Hills died Wednesday, June 28, 2000. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and came to Beverly Hills in 1969 from Independence, Ohio. Mr. Shmelter was a retired homebuilder; member of the Craftsman Guild of Beverly Hills; Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Beverly Hills; a World War I Navy veteran; husband of the late Mrs. Sylvia Shmelter who died June 4, 1978; and father of the late Ronald and Joseph Shmelter.
Surviving are his son, Eugene Shmelter of Westlake, Ohio; daughter, Grace Long of Maple Heights, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Louis Vadala, 79, of Hernando
Louis A. Vadala, 79, of Hernando died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at home, under the loving care of his family. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he came here nine years ago from Wayne, N.J. Mr. Vadala was a manager in the catering business. He flew in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 58 in Dunnellon. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Beverly Hills.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Vivian G. Vadala of Hernando; son, Louis J. Vadala of Las Vegas, Nev.; four daughters, Lorraine Tillie, Dianne Vreeland both of Wayne, N.J., Joan Saia of Hernando and Paulette Berges of Stanhope, N.J.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Norma Christina Bennett, 79, of Inverness died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Born in New York on Dec. 10, 1920, she came here 30 years ago from New Jersey. Mrs. Bennett was a Lutheran by faith.
She is survived by her husband, George E. Bennett of Inverness; a daughter, Brenda DeMelio of Crystal River; a stepdaughter, Jacqueline Snider of New Jersey; three grandchildren, Billie, David and Lisa and one great-granddaughter, Amanda.

Ralph Heffner, 79, of Dunnellon
Ralph Heffner, 79, of Dunnellon died Friday, June 2, 2000, in Dunnellon. He was born in Oil City, Pa., and moved here from Fort Lauderdale 18 years ago. He graduated from Grove City College and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He practiced medicine in Jamestown, N.Y., before attending the University of Miami Medical School, where he received his Pediatric Board. He practiced as a pediatric physician for 25 years in Plantation. In 1982, he retired to Rainbow Springs. He served in the Navy as the only medical officer aboard the U.S. Kermit Roosevelt. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dunnellon.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel Heffner of Dunnellon; two sons, Stephen Heffner of Norco, La., and Michael Heffner of Sebring; three sisters, Audene Mahle of Buffalo, N.Y., Kathryn Moore of Oil City and Lois Sharp of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Joe W. Hooks, 89, of Lecanto died Friday, June 2, 2000, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. He was born Jan. 12, 1911, to John and Cora Hooks in Warthen, Ga. Mr. Hooks was a former tugboat engineer. He retired as dockmaster in Point Look Out, N.Y. He moved to Lecanto in 1994 from Rockville Center, N.Y. Mr. Hooks was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Homosassa. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Guiding Light Lodge in Uniondale, N.Y.
He is survived by his son, George T. Hooks and his wife June of Livonia, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, David and Bruce Hooks of Jacksonville, Karen Hooks of Livonia, Joanne Messina of Lecanto, Sgt. August "Gus" Emil Kolzow, 91, of Inverness died Monday, May 29, 2000. He was born in Amrum, Germany, and came to Inverness 22 years ago from Queens, N.Y. Kolzow owned and operated a grocery store in Richmond Hill, N.Y. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post No. 70. He was Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife, Inge Tonjes Kolzow of Inverness; his son, Eric Kolzow of Orlando, his daughter, Ingrid McNees of Dunnellon and her granddaughter, Hollie McNees of Deltona.

Born in Homosassa on Dec. 4, 1928, he was a lifetime resident before moving to Jacksonville seven years ago. He retired from the lawn maintenance business and was a commercial fisherman.

Born in Shawsville, Pa., on April 6, 1905, to Fred and Viola Lawhead, she came to Florida four years ago from DuBois, Pa. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of DuBois.
She is survived by her son, Lloyd C. Morris of Inverness; three daughters, Ethel Sikora of Crystal River, Flora Weidert of Warren, Pa., Bette Iley of Inverness; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd C. Morris, in 1978 and a daughter, Martha Nelson, May 30, 1993.

Jesse Thomas Hobby Jr., 63, of Inverness died Sunday, June 4, 2000. He was born in Worth County, Ga., and came to Inverness 22 years ago from the Philippines. He retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force, after 25 years of service. He served during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Leonard Wood Masonic Lodge, Philippines; San Juan Consistory Scottish Rite; Afifi Shrine Temple, Tacoma, Wash.; and a charter member of the Inverness Sertoma Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Inverness and the Sunrise Sunday school class.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Bobbie; son, Kenneth J. of Beale Air Force Base, Calif.; three daughters, Becki and her husband Tim Neely of Islamorada, Susie and her husband Mark Helton of Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and Trish and her husband Carl King of Archer; his mother, Ruby Powell Goings of Pinellas Park; a brother, Tim and his wife Alice of Summerville, S.C.; three sisters, Faye and her husband Jim Floyd of Memphis, Tenn., Patricia Stein of Pinellas Park, and Sybil Byers; 12 grandchildren, Katie, Jennifer, Kimmy and Michael Neely, Zachary and Jessie Helton, Jeremy, Matthew, Nathen, C.J., Timmy and Rhiannor King; and many loving friends and neighbors.

Dolores Rivera Marvelli, 77, of Inverness died Saturday, June 3, 2000, in Mariner Health Care Center. A native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, she was born on Dec. 13, 1922, to Jose' Rivera and Esperanza Rios. She came to Florida 28 years ago from Brentwood, N.Y. She was an X-ray technician and assisted her husband in the office for A-1 Electric in Inverness. She was a member of Fort Cooper Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Algerio Marvelli; son, Louis M. of Inverness; brother, Jose Rivera; three sisters, Maria Christina Santana, Belen Adams and Maria Isabel Perez; and two grandchildren, John and Jessica Marvelli.

Grace B. Richardson, 96, of Hollywood and longtime resident of Beverly Hills, died May 6, 2000. She was widow of John Richardson.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Richardson of Buffalo, N.Y.; two daughters, Betty McPherson of Etowah, N.C., and Barbara Osekavage of Beverly Hills; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Clair Tolley, 83, of Inverness died Monday, June 5, 2000. He was born in Ripley, W.Va., and came to Inverness in 1966 from Melbourne. He was a retired contractor. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the DAV Chapter 70. He was a member of the Inverness First Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Marie Tolley, who died July 10, 1995.
Surviving are three sons, C. Richard Tolley of Etowah, Tenn., David Keith Tolley of Inverness and Daniel Lee Tolley of Ocala; two daughters, Nancy Lori McDonald of Inverness and Judith Marie Hayes of Live Oak; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
