Lawrence Haworth
Lawrence V. Haworth, 67, of 800 Beach Ct., Barefoot Bay, a
plastic engineer, died Apr. 8 at the Sebastian Medical Center.
He was a native of England and came to Barefoot Bay two years
ago from North Carolina. He was a member of the Society of Plastic
Engineers and the Sebastian River Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Enid, of Barefoot Bay; four sons,
Glen, of New Bern, S.C., Allen, of Oshna, Canada; Roland, of
Tarboro, Canada; and Warren, of Westfield, MA; a brother, Stanley
Gibert, of New Zealand; and 11 grandchildren.
Private memorial services were held Monday at the Strunk Funeral
home in Sebastian. The Rev. Charles Collins, associate pastor
of Trinity Espiscopal Church, officiated.
Susan C. Tanner
Susan C. Tanner, 45 of 9895 61st Way, Breezy Village,
Sebastian, died Tuesday, May 10, at Indian River Memorial
Hospital, in Vero Beach.
She was a resident of the area for two years, and was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Tanner is survived by her husband, Durwood, of
Sebastian; her mother, Grace McDuffee, of Battle Creek, MI;
a brother, Charles, and a sister, Donna, both of Battle Creek;
and three daughters, Kathy Stagner, and Teresa Swartz, of
Battle Creek, and Robin Kessler, of Texas.
At the request of the family there was no viewing. Services
were held at a later date, in Battle Creek.
Local arrangements were handled by the Pottinger and Son
Funeral Home, in Sebastian.
John Berens
Fellsmere - Services were held Wed., June 1, for John Berens,
97, of 217 Oak St., Fellsmere, at the Florida Memorial Funeral
Home, north of Melbourne.
Mr. Berens was a building construction worker and he died
Monday, May 30, at Holmes Regional Medical Center, in
Melbourne.
Survivors include two children, John, of Chatanooga, TN,
and Cecilia Hiat, of Fellsmere; several grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
MARGARET SHEA
Graveside services were held Wednesday, June 8, for Margaret M. Shea,
49 of 13 Sunset Drive, Sebastian.
A real estate saleswoman and a Brevard resident for 4 years
before coming to Sebastian, Mrs. Shea died Sunday at Sebastian
River Medical Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Shea of Sebastian; and a
brother Eugene Sheil, Jr., of Daytona Beach.
CLYDE M. BONARD
BAREFOOT BAY- A funeral service was held Friday for Clyde
M. Bonard, 73, of 1000 W. Robin Dr., at Fountainhead Memorial
Park, in Palm Bay.
Mr. Bonard was an operation engineer for Detroit Edison,
before he came to this area three years ago.
He was a Masonic Lodge member, and belonged to several
Masonic organizations. He was a member of the Church
of Wall Lake, in Michigan, the Micco Fire Department
and the Barefoot Bay Homeowners Association.
Survivors are his wife, Lois, of Barefoot Bay, a brother
James of Burlington, Iowa; a sister, Evelyn Armstrong, of
Holland, Michigan; two stepdaughters, Doris Dickens of
Oxford, Michigan and Barbra Grames, of West Bloomfield,
Michigan; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Burial was at Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay.
Pottinger and Son Funeral Home, Sebastian was in
charge of arrangements.
JOHN CAMERON
A memorial mass for John Cameron, 62, of Sebastian,
was held Saturday at St. William's Catholic Church.
Mr. Cameron a salesman for Mark IV Limited, died Wednesday,
June 8 at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Anita,
of Sebastian; eight daughters, Joan Brickman, Mary Jane
Stankas, Mary Ann DeBoe, Denise Arnold and Diane Whitehouse
all of Cleveland; Bonnie Phillips of South Carolina, and
Donna Cameron, of Sebastian; a son, Donald Cameron, of
Sebastian; and one brother, David Cameron, of Brunsick,
Ohio.
He was a resident of this area for four years. Pottinger
and Son Funeral Home, Sebastian, was in charge of arrangements.
CHARLES BARRY
BAREFOOT BAY- Memorial Services for Charles J. Barry, 70, of
1141 W. Barefoot Circle, have been held in Bratleboro, VT.
A retired electronics engineer for Navy Underwater Systems,
and a Brevard County resident for seven years, Mr. Barry
died Thursday at Sebastian River Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Barefoot Bay,
a sister, Margaret Barry, of Providence, RI; three
children, Alan, of Knoxville, TN, Karl, of North Brookfield,
MA, and Susan Maines, of Waterford, CT.
Fountainhead Memorial Park, in Palm Bay, was in charge
of local arrangments.
George L. Ewert
Sebastian - George L. Ewert, 88, of 180 Richard St.,
Sebastian, passed away June 17, at Sebastian River
Medical Center.
He was a resident of the area for four years and a
retired store clekr for New York Central Railroad. He
was a native of Pennsylvania, and a World War I veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Sebastian;
a daughter, Rosemary Dernbush of Micco; a son,
Gene Ewert, of Sebastian; and six grandchildren.
The family received friends on Friday evening at
the Pottinger and Son Funeral Home, Sebastian. Mass
was celebrated on Saturday, June 18, at St. Williams
Catholic Church, with Father Joseph LeSage officiating.
Arrangements were handled by the Pottinger and Son
Funeral Home, Sebastian.
Robert Lockett
Fellsmere - A funeral service for Robert E. Lockett,
42, of 1007 Booker St., Fellsmere, was held Sat., June 18,
at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, in Fellsmere.
Mr. Lockett was a laborer, and died Tues., June 14,
at Sebastian River Medical Center.
He was a native of Tiftin, Ga., and moved to Fellsmere
20 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Florence, of Fellsmere;
a son, Robert Jr., of Fellsmere; four daughters, Taffy
and Katonia, both of Fellsmere, Civy Coleman, of Bell
Glade, and Jennifer Wynn, of Ocilla, Ga.; five brothers
and four sisters.
Burial was in Brookside Cemetery, in Fellsmere.
Robert Pugh
Micco - Robert W. Pugh, 8600 N. U.S. 1, Riverview Trailer
Park, died Sunday, June 12, at Sebastian River Medical
Center.
He was a supervisor for Remington Arms, and a resident
of this area for the past four years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Micco; his
mother, Edith Pugh, of New York; and two brothers, John
Pugh, of Ilion, N.Y., and Richard Pugh, of Reading, Vt.
A funeral service and burial were conducted in Ilion.
Local arrangements were handled by the Pottinger and
Son Funeral Home, in Sebastian.
Thomas W. Phillips
Barefoot Bay - Memorial services for Thomas W. Phillips,
63, of 431 Plover Dr., were held last week in New Jersey.
Mr. Phillips was a retired employee of the Sun Oil Co.,
and a Brevard resident for three years. He died Sunday,
June 12, at the Sebastian River Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline, of Barefoot Bay;
a sister, Irene Weldon, and a brother, Herbert Phillips,
both of Millville, N.J.
Fountainhead Memorial Park, in Palm Bay, was in charge
of arrangements.
Robert Skibowski
Robert Skibowski, 60, of 13395 Old Dixie Hwy., died June
20 at his home. He was a self-employed fence contractor.
Mr. Skibowski is survived by his wife, Winifred, of
Sebastian; two daughters, Marilyn McVay, of Sebastian, and
Aleta Skibowski, of Arizona; one son, Norman, of Sebastian;
and one grandchild.
No calling hours. Memorial services will be held
Saturday, June 25, at 2 p.m. at Fountainhead Memorial Park
in Palm Bay. Fountainhead Memorial is in charge of
arrangements.
MABEL ROGERS
BAREFOOT BAY --- Mabel Rogers, an employee of the Sebastian River Medical Center, died
Monday, June 20, at John Hopkins Medical Center, in Baltimore, MD.
Mrs. Rogers lived at 405 Osprey Dr., and was a resident of the area
for about 10 years. Prior to that she worked for th U.S. government,
in the Washington, DC, area.
Survivors are her daughter, Margaret M. Sutton, of Silver Springs,
MD, and one grandson.
A funeral service was held Thurs., June 23, in Bethesda, MD. The
family has asked that memorial donations be sent to Spina Bifida

DR. EDWARD HIGGINS
SEBASTIAN-- A funeral service for Dr. Edward F. Higgins, 69, of
9685 Mockingbird Ln., Sebastian, has been held in Cortland, NY.
Dr. Higgins died Tues., June 22, at Holmes Regional Medical Center,
in Melbourne.
Dr. Higgins was a resident of this area since 1982, coming here
from New York.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, of Cortland, the
Cortland Rotary Club, the Cortland Savings Bank Board of Directors,
and the Cortland County Board of Public Education. He was also on the
staff of Cortland Memorial Hospital and was a member of several other
civic and medical organizations.
Survivors are his wife, Adeline, of Sebastian; two sons, Dr. Edward
F. Higgins, Jr., of New Haven, CT. and Robert P. Higgins, of
Washington, DC; two daughters, Harriet MacDonald, of New York City,
and Margaret Brewer Higgins, of Portland, ME; a brother, Dr. Paul
Higgins, Jr., of Cortland, and sister, Betsy Plummer of Montgomery, Al.
Brownlie and Maxwell Funeral Home, of Melbourne, was in charge of
local arrangements.
HENRY ROMPH
FELLSMERE--Henry Romph, 82, of 10 S. Oak St., Fellsmere, a resident
for one year, died June 25, at the Sebastian River Medical Center.
Mr. Romph was a retired painting contractor and came to Indian
River County from Pompano.
He is survived by a son, Edwin, of Fellsmere; a daughter, Helen
Neubauer, also of Fellsmere; a brother, Fred, of Hallandale; six
grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Local arrangements were under the direction of the Strunk Funerfal
Home, of Sebastian. A funeral service and burial were held in Soctia
NY.
BURNHAM DAY
SEBASTIAN -- A funeral service for Burnham A. Day, 79, of 10 Island
Harbor Rd, was held Monday, at the Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian.
A retired Piper Corp. employee, and an Indian River County Resident
for 30 years, Mr. Day died Friday, at the Sebastian River Medical
Center.
Survivors include his wife Ella, of Sebastian; two sons, Alan J.
Stuprich, of Sebastian, and Randy K. Stuprick, of Ft. Pierce;
six daughters, Lisa Day, of Sebastian, Sharon Keplinger and Michele
Neely, both of Vero Beach, Andria Hanion, of Jupiter, Marsha
Bremerkamp, of St. Louis and Dianne Daniels, of Dallas; four sisters,
Pearl Nelson and Hazel Stephens, both of Ft.Odgen, Fla, and Mabel
Stallcup and Freda Berbien, both of Miami; 11 grandchindren and a
great grandchild.
FREDERICK TRENHAILE
BAREFOOT BAY --- Fredrick W. Trenhaile, 74, of 932 NW Laurel Circle
died Thurs., June 23, at the Sebastian River Medical Center.
Mr. Trenhaile was a truck driver, and a native of Canada. He moved
to Barefoot Bay from Altamonte Springs, FL. He was a member of the
Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Barefoot Bay; two sons
Donald, of Orlando, and Lee, of Barefoot Bay two daughters, Joan
Maryniak, of Shawano, WI. and Doris Albert of Gages Lake, IL; two
brothers, Bill, of Kingston, Ontario, and Thomas, of Richardson, TX
a sister Helen Anger, of Victoria, British Columbia; nine grandchildren
and one great-grandson.
A funeral service and burial were held in Bensonville, NJ. Local
arrangements were under the direction of Strunk Funeral HOme, Sebastian.
Isabella Newman
WABASSO - Isabella Newman, 66, of 6550 85th St., a retired self-employed
beautician, and lifelong resident of Wabasso, died Sunday, June 25, at her
residence.
Survivors are five brothers, Walter M. Jackson, and Theodore Jackson,
both of Gifford, Elijah Jackson, of Birmingham, AL, Jessie McDaniel, of
Arlington, VA, and DeGartie Jackson, of Richmond, CA; and a sister,
Rosella Whitfield, Wabasso.
The funeral was held Thursday, June 30, at the, Allen Chapel A.M.E.
Church. Burial was in the Wabasso Cemetery.
GLADYS M. MASSLER
SEBASTIAN --- Gladys M. Massler, of 692 Lake Dr., Sebastian, died Wed.,
July 6, at Indian River Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Massler was born in Bridgeton, N.J., and had lived in Sebastian the
past two years. She came here from Ozark, AL.
She was a homemaker and member of St. Williams Catholic Church, in
Sebastian.
Survivors include her husband, Henry, of Sebastian; two sons, Henry V.
Jr., of Canton, AL, and Chris P., of Chicago; a daughter, Vicki Massler,
of Athens, AL; three brothers, Fred and Joseph Sharpe, both of Millville,
NJ, and Jake Sharpe, of Boston; and four sisters, Bernie Klein, Of John's
Island, Joyce Bowen, of Sebastian, Mary Stottler, of Millville, and Sally
Sharpe, of Fortescue, NJ.
Memorial services were held Monday at ST. Williams Catholic Church.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Strunk Funeral
Home, Sebastian.
ARTHUR CALLAHAN
SEBASTIAN --- Arthur M. Callahan, 98, of 944 Lance St., a retired musician
died Tues., July 5, at his home.
A service has been held in Missouri. Mr. Callahan was a resident of
Indian River County for nine years.
Survivors include a close friend, Margaret Post, of Sebastian.
Pottinger and Son Funeral Home os Sebastian, was in charge of local
arrangements.
WILLIAM UPTON
ROSELAND -- William K. Upton, 82, of 14495 U.S. 1, Roseland, died Thursday,
July 7, in his home. He was a retired roofing and siding contractor, and
lived in the area for 25 years.
Survivors include a son, Billy W. Upton; and three brothers, Porter Upton
of Knoxville, TN, Paul Upton, of Clarksville, AR and Edison Upton, of
Detroit, MI. No funeral service was held.
Fountain Memorial Park, in Palm Bay, was in charge of arrangements.
