Bertha Johnson, 93, of Barefoot Bay, died Oct. 5, 1998, at Palm Gardens of Vero Beach after a prolonged illness. She was born July 31, 1905, in Elizabeth N.J., and moved to Barefoot Bay in 1982 from Maplewood, N.J. Surviving is one niece, Jean B. McDede, of Barefoot Bay. Friends may call 11 a.m. to noon Friday at Fountainhead Memorial Funeral Home, Palm Bay. The funeral was Oct. 9 at the funeral home. Entombment followed at Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay.

Lillian Parillo
Lillian Parillo, 85, of Sebastian, died Oct. 5, 1998, at Integrated Health Services of Vero Beach after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 3, 1913, in Chicago, Ill., and moved to Sebastian 10 years ago from Fort Lauderdale. Mrs. Parillo was a homemaker and a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian. Surviving are her companion, Joseph Vicari, of Sebastian; and one sister, Betty Sweeney, of Fort Lauderdale. At the family's request, there will be no repose or visitation. A memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Oct. 20 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Indian River Cremations Inc., Vero Beach.

Robert Ryer
Robert E. "Bob" Ryer, 70, of Barefoot Bay, died Oct. 4, 1998, at Integrated Health Service, Palm Bay, after a prolonged illness. He was born Aug. 31, 1928, in Winchester, Mass., and moved to Barefoot Bay 15 years ago from North Reading, Mass. Mr. Ryer was a deputy fire chief with the city of North Reading, prior to retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Azan Temple, Melbourne; Sebastian River Shrine Club, Sebastian; Aleppo Temple, Free and Accepted Masons Masonic Lodge; Knights Templer, Aleppo Fire Brigade and Royal Arch Chapter, all of Massachusetts, and Barefoot Bay Computer Club, Barefoot Bay. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Jean; one son, John J. Ryer, of North Reading; one brother, William H. Ryer, of North Reading; and one grandchild. A memorial service will be Oct. 17 at the Croswell Funeral Home, North Reading, Mass. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, North Reading. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled and Burned Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla. 32356, or Micco Fire and Rescue Department, 301 Barefoot Blvd., Micco, Fla. 32976 in Mr. Ryer's memory. Earle McIntosh
E. Earle McIntosh, 64, of Vero Beach, died Oct. 5, 1998, at Indian River Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach. He was born June 16, 1934, in Jamaica, and moved to Vero Beach 15 years ago from Queen Village, N.Y. Mr. McIntosh was a self-employed electronic technician for 30 years, prior to retirement. He was a member of First Church of God, Vero Beach. Surviving is one son, Andre McIntosh, of Vero Beach; two daughters, Sharon Dixon, of Sebastian, and Bridgitte Broxton, of Vero Beach; four brothers, Hilton McIntosh, of Jamaica, Fred McIntosh and Clem McIntosh, both of Birmingham, England, and Charlie McIntosh, of London, England; four sisters, Meikel McIntosh, of Brownhills, England, Carmen Henry, of Birmingham, Cherrie Parkinson, of London, and Lydia Bruce, of Dudley, England; and five grandchildren. The was Oct. 10 at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, Gifford, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Pierce officiating. Interment followed at Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach. Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel, Gifford is in charge of arrangements.

Marie Soucy
Marie T. Soucy, 82, of Sebastian, died Oct. 7, 1998, at her residence after a prolonged illness. She was born June 4, 1916, in Boston, Mass., and moved to Sebastian in 1982 from Braintree, Mass. Mrs. Soucy was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service, Boston, for 15 years. She was a member of Ladies Sodality of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Weymouth, Mass. Surviving are two sons, Joseph R. Soucy Jr., of Abilene, Texas, and Philip T. Soucy, of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Dorothy A. Frano, of Braintree, Mass., and Geraldine M. Hales, of Sebastian; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was Oct. 10 at Strunk Funeral Home Chapel, Sebastian, with the Rev. Lucien Duquette officiating. William Gunther
William Gunther, 49, of Micco, died Oct. 9, 1998, at Sebastian River Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 28, 1949, in Winter Park, and moved to Micco five years ago from Los Angeles, Calif. Mr. Gunther was a carpenter. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Susan and William Herndon, of Ocala; and a brother, Rod Gunther, of Atlanta, Ga. At the family's request, there will be no repose or visitation. A memorial mass Oct. 12 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sebastian. Harriette Jackson
Harriette Humiston Jackson, 72, of Vero Beach, died Sept. 30, 1998, at her residence after a prolonged illness. She was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Vero Beach, and was a lifetime resident. She was a member of Friend of Bill W. Surviving are two daughters, Jacque VanNorren, of Vero Beach, and Norma Jill Jackson, of Sebastian; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was Oct. 3 at Aycock Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Pierce, with the Rev. Bill Hurt officiating. Mildred Johnson
Mildred Elizabeth Johnson, 90, of Roseland, died Oct. 2, 1998, at Palm Garden of Vero Beach after a prolonged illness. She was born July 18, 1908, in Hillsboro, Ill., and moved to Sebastian nine years ago from Kenosha, Wis. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian. Surviving are one stepson, Tom Johnson, of Fort Myers; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial Oct. 5 at Young and Prill Funeral Home, Sebastian.

Lawrence Bach
Lawrence M. Bach Jr., 72, of Sebastian, died Oct. 4, 1998, at Sebastian River Medical Center. He was born in Sea Bright, N.J., and moved to Sebastian in 1987, from Toms River, N.J. Mr. Bach was a sign writer for Brister Signs, in Vero Beach. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the Seabees. Mr. Bach was a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades. Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Lorraine; five daughters, Donna Lee Wright and Kathy Lynn Moyers, both of Vero Beach, Carol Marie Durmer and Linda Ann Snuffin, both of Beachwood, N.J., and Susan Jean Stevens, of Atco, N.J.; a son, Michael Lawrence Bach, of Toms River; a sister, Karen Deckert, of Sweetwater, N.J.; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service was Oct. 7 at Ryanwood Fellowship, 2196 54th Avenue, Vero Beach. A burial was at Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay. Richard Shields
Richard (Dick) Clayton Shields, 71, of Sebastian, died Oct. 4, 1998, at Sebastian River Medical Center, after a brief illness. Mr. Shields was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Staten Island, N.Y., and moved to Sebastian seven years ago from his birthplace. He was a construction superintendent for the New York City Housing Authority. Mr. Shields was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2714 and Moose Lodge No. 1767, both in Sebastian. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Shields, of New York, N.Y., and Elizabeth Shields, of Sebastian; a son, Richard Shields, of Staten Island; a brother, Walter Shields, of Sebastian; a sister, Beverly Lane, of Toms River, N.J.; and two grandchildren. Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, handled local arrangements. Mr. Shields will be transferred to Richmond Funeral Home, Grant City, Staten Island, for additional services.

Mildred Spengler
Mildred E. Spengler, 73, of Sebastian, died Oct. 3, 1998, at Sebastian River Medical Center after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Spengler was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Sebastian 20 years ago, from South Miami. She was a retired draftsman at Bell Telephone Laboratory and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxillary in South Miami. Surviving is a sister, Viola Neidecker, of Sebastian. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Strunk Funeral Home Chapel, Sebastian, with the Rev. Ralph Rivers officiating. Marcella Moulton
Marcella "Marcy" Moulton, 81, of Barefoot Bay, died unexpectedly Sept. 20, 1998, at Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland. She was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Lynn, Mass., and moved to Barefoot Bay in 1980 from Beverly, Mass. Mrs. Moulton was a member of Friends of the Library and Thursday Morning Shuffleboard, both of Barefoot Bay. Surviving are four sons, Dana Moulton Jr., of Beverly, Richard Moulton, of Peabody, Mass., Donald Moulton, of Denver, Colo., and Gary Moulton, of Micco; four daughters, Carol Raven, of Appleton, Maine, Lois Thompson, of Fort Lauderdale, Kathleen Doucette, of Coral Springs, and Debra Novasse, of Sebastian; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Fountainhead Memorial Funeral Home, Palm Bay. The funeral was Sept. 25 at Garden of Last Supper Mausoleum, Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay.

Martha Benedict
Martha "Mart" Benedict, 83, of Sebastian, died Sept. 23, 1998, at Integrated Health Services of Vero Beach, Vero Beach, after a prolonged illness. She was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Wilson, N.Y., and moved to Sebastian in 1982 from Auburn, N.Y. Mrs. Benedict was a homemaker. She was a member of Sebastian United Methodist Church, Over 50 Club of the Sebastian United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Sebastian. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Mottville, N.Y. Surviving are one daughter, "Marty" Delaney, of Sebastian; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service was Sept. 26 at Strunk Funeral Home Chapel, Sebastian. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Sebastian United Methodist Church, P.O. Eugenia Marie Fairchild, 84, of Sebastian, died Sept. 21, 1998, at Longwood Memorial Hospital, Fort Pierce, after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 14, 1913, in Durby, Conn., and moved to Sebastian in 1978 from Pompano Beach. Surviving are one son, Kenneth H. Fairchild, of Sebastian; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. No services are scheduled. Fountainhead Memorial Funeral Home, Palm Bay, is in charge of arrangements.

Roy Crosby
The Rev. J. Roy Crosby, 78, 1305 Sandy Lane, Clearwater, died Sept. 22, 1998, at Bay Pines Regional Hospital, Bay Pines. He was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Adel, Ga., and lived in Vero Beach from 1926 until 1943, when he moved to Clearwater. Rev. Crosby was the retired minister for seniors at Calvary Baptist Church, Clearwater. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; four sons, David I. Crosby, of Dothan, Ala., Stephen G. Crosby, of Largo, Philip B. Crosby, of St. Louis, Mo., and Daniel C. Crosby, of Bradenton; one daughter, Kerry C. Hillary, of Clearwater; two sisters, Mamie Smith, of Fellsmere, and Mary Phillips, of Vero Beach; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Moss-Feaster Funeral Home, Clearwater. The funeral was Sept. 28 at Calvary Baptist Church, 331 Cleveland Ave., Clearwater, with the Rev. Charles Adolph "Bud" Link, 75, of Vero Beach, died unexpectedly Sept. 21, 1998, at his residence. He was born April 21, 1923, in Wilderness, Va., and moved to Vero Beach in 1990 from Spotsylvania, Va. Mr. Link was the owner and operator of Royal Palm Press, Fort Lauderdale. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Pompano Beach, and Radio Operators Club. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Marian; one son, Martin P. Beard III, of Palm Bay; one daughter, Cheryl B. Andes, of York, Pa.; one sister, Phyllis Atkins, of Spotsylvania; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends 9-10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Wabasso, Wabasso. A memorial service was Sept. 26 at First Baptist Church of Wabasso with the Rev. Jerry Cooper officiating. Ellis Moree, 76, of Wabasso, died Sept. 24, 1998, at Indian River Memorial Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was born March 22, 1922, in Rockingham, N.C., and moved to Wabasso 39 years ago from Hillsborough, N.C. Mr. Moree was a foreman for Earring Point Groves, Wabasso, for 30 years. He was a member of Woodmen of the World, Omaha, Neb. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Mary; two sons, John Moree, of Vero Beach, and Ronnie Moree, of Fort Pierce; one sister, Kathleen Duke, of Louisville, Ky.; and four grandchildren. A memorial was Sept. 28 at Strunk Funeral Home chapel, Sebastian, with the Rev. Jerry Cooper officiating. Tom Neidert
Henry Thomas Neidert, 52, of Sebastian, died Sept. 26, 1998, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 18, 1946, in Massilyn, Ohio, and moved to Sebastian seven years ago from Homestead. Mr. Neidert retired from the Miami Beach Fire Department after 26 years of service. He was also involved with the FEMA DART team. He was a Methodist and a Vietnam veteran, serving with the U.S. Air Force. He was also president of the Indian River Manatees Motor Home Club and a member of the Sebastian Lodge of Elks B.P.O.E. No. 2714. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Linda; twin sons, Thomas Troy Neidert, of Sebastian, and Timothy Paul Neidert, of St. Cloud; one daughter, Teresa Morales, of Lake Toxway, N.C.; a brother, Ron Neidert, of Deland; a sister, Marilyn Burger, of North Lawrence, Ohio; and three grandchildren. A memorial service was Sept.29 at Young & Prill Funeral Home Chapel. Stanley Linder will officiate.

Samuel Grant
Samuel A. Grant, 94, of Sebastian, died Sept. 27, 1998, at Sebastian River Medical Center after a prolonged illness. He was born April 14, 1904, in Rensselaer, Ind., and moved to Sebastian four years ago from his birthplace. Mr. Grant was owner of J.A. Grant and Son Trucking Co., Rensselaer. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Rensselaer and was a Mason. Surviving are his son, Bruce Grant, of Vero Beach; one daughter, Mary Marzke, of Sebastian; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. At the family's request, there will be no repose or visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Rensselaer. Arrangements are under the direction of Indian River Cremations Inc., Vero Beach.

Forest Messenger
Forest S. Messenger, 102, of Fellsmere, died unexpectedly Sept. 24, 1998, at Indian River Memorial Hospital. Mr. Messenger was born July 19, 1896, in Auburn Township, Ohio, and moved to Fellsmere in 1946 from Burton, Ohio. Mr. Messenger was a self-employed farmer and was a member of the Fellsmere Community Church. He is survived by a close personal friend, Bob Jernigan, of Fellsmere, nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation or services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian.

Forest Messenger
A memorial service for Forest S. Messenger, 102, of Fellsmere, who died Sept. 24, 1998, was Oct. 4 at Fellsmere Community Church, Fellsmere, with the Rev. Tim Gault officiating. Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, is in charge of arrangements.
