Hilda Jensen
Hilda Jensen, 74, of Barefoot Bay, died Oct. 19, 1998, at
Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland, after a prolonged
illness.
She was born Jan. 8, 1924, in North Troy, Vt., and moved
to Barefoot Bay 19 years ago from Derry, N.H.
Mrs. Jensen was co-owner of the Derry Donut Shop, Derry.
She was a member of the Women's Golf League and Bowling
League, both of Barefoot Bay.
Surviving are her husband of 31 years, Leo; one daughter,
Barbara Preston, of Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.; four
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jensen is being transferred to the Peabody Funeral
Home, Derry, for interment in Forest Hill Cemetery, East
Derry, N.H.

Lily Kuder
Lily M. Kuder, 101, of Sebastian, died Oct. 18, 1998, at
Integrated Health Services of Palm Bay after a brief
illness.
She was born Jan. 6, 1897, in Bronx, N.Y., and moved to
Sebastian in 1972 from Huntington, N.Y.
Mrs. Kuder was a homemaker. She was in charge of the arts
and crafts group at Whispering Palms II, Sebastian.
Surviving are two sons, Arthur Schilling, of Sebastian,
and Walter Schilling, of Winter Park; three
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was Oct. 22 at Strunk Funeral Home,
Sebastian, with the Rev. David Lillegard officiating.

Norman Moore
Norman E. Moore, 65, of Micco, died unexpectedly Oct. 20,
1998, at Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland.
He was born Sept. 29, 1933, in Lakemore, Ohio, and moved
to Micco in 1976 from West Palm Beach.
Mr. Moore retired from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Lucy; one son, Alvin
Moore, of Micco; one stepdaughter, Kathy Elwell, of
Micco; two stepsons, John Moore and Frank Moore, both of
Micco; two sisters, Karen Bear, of Satellite Beach, and
Cindy Ricker, of Georgia; one brother, Clifford Moore, of
Alabama; and two grandchildren.
At the family's request, there will be no repose or
visitation.

Mamie Teague
Mamie Teague, 70, of Merritt Island, died unexpectedly Oct.
19, 1998, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 10. 1928, in Jasper, and lived in
Roseland about 10 years before moving to Merritt Island
in 1967.
Mrs. Teague was a youth director for the state of
California and the city of Lompoc, Calif. She was a
member of First Baptist Church of Merritt Island.
Surviving are three daughters, Wanda "Marti" Morawski, of
Merritt Island, Teresa "Teri" Teague, of Union Park, and
Andrea Spears, of North Carolina; one son, Kevin Teague,
of Belle Glade; one sister, Abbie Vita, of Lake Worth; 11
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Oct. 23 at Florida Memorial Funeral Home,
Rockledge chapel, with Don Nester officiating.

Leona Smiley
Leona Smiley, 90, of Wabasso, died Oct. 15, 1998, at
Longwood Health Care Center, Altamonte Springs.
She was born April 7, 1908, in Carrie Bell, and was a
lifelong resident of Wabasso.
Surviving are two nieces.
The funeral was Oct. 24 at St. Matthew's Missionary
Baptist Church, Wabasso, with the Rev. Jerome Bell
officiating. Interment followed at Wabasso Cemetery,
Wabasso.

Roland Kaighn
Roland Albert Kaighn, 63, of Thorofare, N.J., died Oct. 23,
1998, at Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland, after a
brief illness.
He was born July 17, 1935, in Camden, N.J., and moved to
Sebastian five months ago from Gloucester City, N.J.
Mr. Kaighn was a truck driver for the Teamsters Union in
New Jersey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Gloucester City, and Teamsters Retiree's Chapter Local
676, Collingswood, N.J.
Surviving are four daughters, Alicia Smulfus and Heather
Reiber, both of Thorofare, Catheryine M. Kaighn-Perez, of
Westville, N.J., and Robin Ann Kaighn, of Virginia; two
sons, Roland A. Kaighn Jr., of Westville, and Patrick
Kaighn, of Glassboro, N.J.; one sister, Marianne Kaighn,
of Sebastian; one brother, Earl Kaighn, of Thorofare; and
nine grandchildren.

Paul Maggard
Paul Allen Maggard, 89, of Sebastian, died Oct. 22, 1998,
in Palm Bay after a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1908, in Scott County, Ind., and
moved to Sebastian 10 years ago from Austin, Ind.
Mr. Maggard was a retired postmaster at the U.S. Post
Office, Austin, for 30 years. He was a member of the
Masonic Lodge, Austin, and twice past master of Scott
Lodge No. 120, Austin. He was a member of the Royal Arch
Lodge, Scottsburgh, Ind.; Phi Delta Theta Fraternity,
Franklin College, Franklin, Ind.; and the Rural Letter
Carriers Association.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; one son,
Enzor L. Maggard, of Sebastian; two grandchildren; and
four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Maggard will be transferred to the Buchanan Funeral
Home, Austin, for services and interment at Austin
Cemetery, Austin.
Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, is in charge of local
arrangements.
Jack Armstrong
Jack Armstrong, 83, of Vero Beach, died Oct. 12, 1998, at
his residence after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 6, 1915, in Mohawk, N.Y., and moved to
Vero Beach in 1960 from Harrisburg, Pa.
Mr. Armstrong was a machinist at Piper Aircraft, Vero
Beach, for 23 years, prior to retirement. He was a
charter member of the Indian River County Volunteer
Ambulance Squad and a member of Indian River Cremation
Society, Vero Beach.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Juanita; two sons,
Paul Armstrong, of Arlington, Texas, and Douglas
Armstrong, of Bethel Springs, Tenn.; three daughters,
Susan Martin, of Arlington, Donna Ferris, of Sebastian,
and Cathy Moravec, of Winter Beach; 10 grandchildren; and
eight great-grandchildren.
At the family's request, there will be no repose or

Ernest Conniff
Ernest "Deyo" Conniff, 73, of Micco, died Oct. 9, 1998, at
Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland, after a brief
illness.
He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Uleta, and moved to Micco
17 years ago from Indian River County.
Mr. Conniff was the owner of E.D. Conniff Radio and
Television Service, Vero Beach, and a former electrician
here. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was
a former member of the Moose Lodge, Sebastian.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Beth Moye, of
Indialantic; three brothers, Alfred L. Conniff and
Douglas Sears Conniff, both of Vero Beach, and Jun Ray
Conniff, of Micco; three sisters, Lillie M. Meeks, Lucy
M. Warren and Erma D. Witherspoon, all of Vero Beach;
five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral was Oct. 15 at the Strunk Funeral Home,
Sebastian, chapel with Elder Leon Blanton officiating.
Interment followed at Winter Beach Cemetery, Winter
Beach, with military honors being rendered by American
Legion Post 189 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.
10210, both of Sebastian.
Mary Thompson
Mary Thelma Thompson, 89, of Sebastian, died Oct. 11, 1998,
at Indian River Memorial Hospital after a prolonged illness.
She was born March 23, 1909, in Conneaut, Ohio, and moved
to Sebastian in 1979 from East Springfield, Pa.
Mrs. Thompson was a teacher and a principal for 35 years
in the Pennsylvania school system, prior to retirement.
She was a U.S. Navy Wave during World War II. She was a
former president of the Professional Business and Women's
Club, and a member of the American Association of Retired
Persons and Homemakers Club, and a life member of the
Pennsylvania State Educational Association and Parent
Teacher Association. She was a member of Fellsmere
Community Bible Church and Worthwhile Society.
Surviving is her husband, Chester; and several nieces and
nephews.
A memorial service was held Oct. 17 at Fellsmere
Community Church, Fellsmere.

Andrew Clark
Andrew Edward Clark, the infant son of Amy and Roger Clark,
of Vero Beach, died on the day of his birth Oct. 13, 1998,
at Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland.
Also surviving are two sisters, Sarah Lyn Clark and
Ashley Nichole Clark, both of Vero Beach; his paternal
grandparents, Sylvia and Roger Clark, of Vero Beach, and
his maternal grandparents, Shannon and David Cuddie, of
Sebastian; his great-grandparents, Veda and James
Creamer, of Fellsmere, and Edward and Louise Clark, of
Mayo, Floyd and Lois Tillis, of Plant City, Eldon and
Elva Cuddie, of Sebastian, and Robert and Marion Johnson,
of Michigan.
The funeral was Oct. 17 at Strunk Funeral Home Chapel,
Sebastian, with the Revs. Doyce Morton and Jim Wingate
officiating.
Interment followed at Winter Beach Cemetery, Winter
Beach.
Anderson Johnson
Anderson Johnson Jr., 60, 6345 85th St., Wabasso, died
unexpectedly Oct. 9, 1998, at Indian River Memorial
Hospital.
He was born Jan. 18, 1938, in Wabasso, and was a lifelong
resident.
Mr. Johnson attended St. Matthew's Baptist Church,
Wabasso. He was a deputy sheriff with the Indian River
County Sheriff's Department, prior to retirement.
Surviving are five sons, Anderson Johnson III, Rocky
Liddell Johnson and Gregory Johnson, all of Vero Beach,
Cory Johnson, of Melbourne, and Isreal Johnson, of Fort
Lauderdale; one daughter, Wendy Johnson, of Tampa; three
brothers, Edward Johnson and James Johnson, both of New
Windsor, N.Y., and Darryl Cartwright, of New York, N.Y.;
and five grandchildren.
The funeral was on Oct. 17 at St. Matthew's Baptist
Church, Wabasso, with the Rev. Jerome Bell officiating.
Interment followed at Wabasso Cemetery, Wabasso.
Mary Ortiz
Mary Russo Ortiz, 88, of Vero Beach, died Oct. 13, 1998, at
Integrated Health Services, Vero Beach, after a brief
illness.
She was born Dec. 26, 1909, in Brockton, Mass., and moved
to Vero Beach 12 years ago from Dania.
Mrs. Ortiz was owner of Russo's Grocery Store, Bronx,
N.Y.
Surviving are two sons, Frank Catala, of Sebastian, and
Victor Catala, of Encino, Calif.; one daughter, Josephine
Lang, of Red Bank, N.J.; one brother, Horace Russo, of
Madison, Wis.; two sisters, Esther Rabasa, of Miami, and
Vickie Cremens, of North Carolina; six grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.

Raymond Sawyer
Raymond F. Sawyer, 61, of Sebastian, died Oct. 14, 1998, at
Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland, after a prolonged
illness.
He was born March 25, 1937, in Salem, N.J., and moved to
Sebastian 20 years ago from Havre de Grace, Md.
Mr. Sawyer was a jewelry manufacturer. He was a member of
the Wesleyan Church, Vero Beach. He was a U.S. Army
veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife of six years, Mary; his mother,
Margaret Sawyer, of Sebastian; two sons, Raymond F.
Sawyer Jr. and Donald Birch, both of Sebastian; three
daughters, Sherry Hibbs and Michelle Sawyer, both of New
Port Richey, and Mary Askin, of Sebastian; two brothers,
Richard Sawyer, of Micco, and William Sawyer, of
Sebastian; and nine grandchildren.

Mrs. Kintop was a homemaker and a member of the Steltz
Lutheran Church in Glen Rock, Pa.
Surviving are a son, William Kintop, of Leesburg; a
daughter, Jeanne McCormick, of Sebastian; five
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.

Steltz Lutheran Church.

He was born Jan. 9, 1918, in Sparta, Ill., and moved to
Barefoot Bay 15 years ago from Knoxville, Tenn.
Mr. McConachie was a Baptist and a Mason.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn; two daughters, Martha E.
Berry, of Salem, Ill., and Elizabeth Phillips, of
Kinmundy, Ill.; one sister, Alva Russell, of Sparta; one
brother, LaVerne McConachie, of Sparta; five
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren.

Ezra "Dee" Doty, 60, of Sebastian, died Oct. 3, 1998, at
his residence after a prolonged illness.
He was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Warwick, N.Y., and moved to
Sebastian in 1990 from Buffalo, N.Y.
Mr. Doty was a truck driver. He was a member of Riverside
Church Assembly of God, Sebastian.
Surviving are one brother, James Smith, of Sebastian;
four sisters, Fannie Ritchie, of Spring Hill, Kay Hadden,
of New Port Richey, Ruth Kleinle, of Phoenix, Ariz., and
Hazel Gross, of Phillipsburg, N.J.; two daughters, Marion
D. Doty and Louise Doty, both of Chester, N.Y.; three
sons, Peter Boyan and Christopher Boyan, both of Santa
Rosa, Calif., and Greg Boyan, of Highland Mills, N.Y.;
and one granddaughter.

George Folland
George W. Folland, 76, of Sebastian, died Oct. 5, 1998, at
his residence after a prolonged illness.
He was born April 2, 1922, in Monaca, Pa., and moved to
Sebastian in 1988 from Vowinkle, Pa.
Mr. Folland was manager of engineering for Rockwell
International for 30 years, prior to retirement. He was a
graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University. He was a member
of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Engineering
Society of Detroit, Elks Lodge No. 2714, Sebastian, and
St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian. Mr. Folland was
a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Joyce; three sons,
Rodney G. Folland, of Plymouth, Mich., Clifford W.
Folland, of Canton, Ohio, and Kevin V. Folland, of
Rockville, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
At the family's request, there will be no repose or

A memorial Mass was Oct. 9 at St. Sebastian Catholic
Church, Sebastian.
