Blance Davidson
A funeral service for Blance M. Davidson, 73, of 804 Beach Ct., Barefoot
Bay, was held Thursday at the Florida Memorial Funeral Home in Melbourne.
A secretary and a Brevard county resident for 10 years, Mrs. Davidson
died Sunday at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev.
Survivors are her husband, Meyer, of Barefoot Bay; three sons, Walter
Lochman of Cocoa Beach, Curtis Lochman of Melbourne, and William Lochman
of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Connie Hutton of Lodi, Cal.; a sister,
Jean Knabe of Orlando; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Howard E. Slagle
A funeral service for Howard E. Slagle, 65, of 4915 Cook Av., Grant,
has been held in Marion, OH.
Mr. Slagle, a retired industrial painter and a resident of Brevard
County for the past 13 years, died Thursday, Aug. 25, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda, of Grant; three sons, Alan, of
Orlando, David, of LaFayette, La., and Ronald, of Waverly, W. Va.; a
brother livng outside the state and six grandchildren.

DAVID M. LAPHAM
ROSELAND --- David M. Lapham, 67, of 8036 140th St., Roseland, a retired
director of public affairs for Peoples Gas System, and a former mayor
of North Miami Beach, died Sunday, Aug 28, at the Indian River
Memorial Hospital, in Vero Beach.
Mr. Lapham lived in Indian River County for four and a half years.
He is survived by his wife, Adele, of Roseland; two sons, David, of
S. Miami, and Teter of Fort Lauderdale; three dauaghters, Marcia Sgro,
of Atlanta and Ethel Clark, and Barbara Jo Lapham, both of San Diego;
a brother, Harry Jr., of Olympia, Wa.; and a sister, Bernice Jones
of N. Miami.
A private memorial service was held at the convenience of the family.
The Fountainhead Memorial Park, of Palm Bay, was in charge of arrangements.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
GRACE CARLTON
ROSELAND --- Grace Carlton, 74, of Roseland, died Wednesday, Aug.31, at the
Sebastian River Medical Center.
Mrs. Carlton was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was a visitor to the
area.
She is survived by two dauaghters, Estelle King and Mary Tomaro,
both of South Bound Brook, N.J.; a son, George, of South Bound Brook;
two sisters, Dorothy Roberts, of Pennsylvania, and June Ward of
Massachusetts; three brothers, George Wainwright, of North Carolina,
Kenneth Wainwright, of New Jersey, and Paul Wainwright, of Middleton,
N.J.; and seven grandchildren.
A service and burial was held in South Bound Brook. Local arrangements
were handled by Pottinger & Son Funeral Home, Sebastian.
ERMA SEIB
SEBASTIAN --- Erma K. Seib, 79, of 311 Pineapple ave., a retired nurse,
deid Thursday at Indian River Memorial Hospital, in Vero Beach.
Mrs. Seib was a native of McKean Township, Pa., and lived in Lake City
and Girard, Pa., before moving to Sebastian, in 1969. She graduated from
St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1928.
She is survived by a sister, Leeta M. Hain of Melrbourne; and a
brother, Dale Keeler, of Lakewood, Oh.
She was buried in Girard, and local arrangements were handled by
Pottinger & Son Funeral Home, Sebastian.
GENEVA H. BEAM
SEBASTIAN --- Geneva H Beam, 81, of 561 Wimbrow Dr. Sebastian, died Friday
Aug. 26, at the Sebastian River Medical Center. She was a homemaker and
lived in Indian River County for 23 years.
Mrs. Beam is survived by a son, Gerald, of Sebastian. No services
were held. Fountainhead Memorial Park, of Palm Bay, was in charge of
arrangements.
HAROLD B. FORD
SEBASTIAN --- A funeral service was held Monday for Harold B Ford, 83, of
201 SW Delaware Av. Sebastian, a former funeral director, in Rochester,
N.Y., and a resident of Indian River County for the past 20 years.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Mr. Ford died Friday, Sept. 9, at his
home. He was a board member of the Sebastian Cemetery Association of
Retired Persons.
He was also a past president and member of the Sebastian Lions Club,
and of a Lions Club in New York. He was a member of the New York
Funeral Directors Association.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of Sebastian. The funeral service
was held at the Pottinger & Son Garden Chapel, and burial was in
Sebastian Cemetery.
BEULAH R. GOLIEN
SEBASTIAN --- A private funeral service was held for Beulah R. Golien, 73
of 585 Petersen St.
Mrs. Golien, a homemaker and an Indian River County resident for 10
years, died Tuesday, Sept. 6 at her home.
Survivors are her husband, Elmer, of Sebastian; two sons, Gregory, of
Sebastian, and Gary, of Homestead; two daughters, Christy, of Melbourne
Beach, and Holly Prater, of Plantation; two sisters living outside the
state, foru grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
No calling hours were scheduled. Strunk Funeral Home, of Sebastian,
was in charge of local arrangements.

ARCHIE DEMILLE
Sebastian – A service for Archie DeMille, 76, of 581 S.W. Frink Ave.,
Sebastian was held in Swansea, Mass. Mr. DeMille was a retired U.S.
Civil Service employee and an Indian River county resident for 10
years. He died Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Sebastian River Medical
Center.
Survivors are his wife, Rita, of Sebastian, four daughters, Claire
Santos, of West Point, Mass., Janet Mackie and Natalie Doyle, both of
Assonet, Mass., and Katherine Viveiros, of Swansea, Mass.; two sons,
Robert of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Richard, of Bangor, Maine; two
sisters, living outside the state and 13 grandchildren.
Pottinger & Son Funeral Home, of Sebastian, was in charge of local
arrangements.
EATHEL MICHELS
Grant – A funeral service for Eathel Michels, 85, of 5375 N. Dixie
Highway, was held Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Palm
Bay.
Mrs. Michels was a homemaker and a Brevard county resident for 64
years. She died Monday, Sept. 19, at her home.
Survivors are three sons, John, of Tinton Falls, NJ, Al of Pembrook
Pines, and Louis, of Palm Bay; six daughters, Marguerite Michels, of
Grant, Delores Frazier, of Sarasota, Rosemary Groark, of Lancaster,
CA, Aletha Rector, of Melbourne, Kathleen Michels, of Houston, TX,
and Carol Ross, of Japan; a sister, Martha Vereen, of Ocala; four
brothers, Nick and Roy Owens, both of DeLand and two others living
outside the state; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
LEADING AREA CATTLEMAN GILBERT BARKOSKIE DIES
FELLSMERE --- One of this area's leading cattlemen, and civic leader,
Gilbert E. Barkoskie, of 1010 S.R. 507, Fellsmere, died at Holmes
Regional Medical Center, in Melbourne Friday, Sept. 30. He was 89.
He was a native of Loretta Fl., and came to Indian River County in
1911 to work on the county's drainage problems. He liked the area so
well that he purchased land and went into the cattle business for the rest
of his life.
During his lifetime, Mr. Barkoskie served as a member of the Indian
River County School Board, and the Board of Trustees of the Indian River
Memorial Hospital board of trustees. He also served as a county commissioner and was a member of the Sebastian River Drainage Board.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace E Taylor. He married
her in 1916. He was active in state and county cattlemens assoociations,
and was President of the Indian River Cattleman's Association for
several years. He was also a director of the cattleman's association for
18 years and was named cattleman of the century.
Mr. Barkoskie was the founder of the Fellsmere "Cracker Play Day"
rodeo and horse races, which began in 1923. He remained active in the
program all of his life.
Survivors are his wife, Lulu, of Fellsmere; a son, Harlon, of Vero
Beach; two daughters, Lela McMillan, of Fellsmere, and Ruth Lyons, of
Lakeland; two sisters, Angelena Osterricher, and Emily Barkoskie, of Ponte
Vedra, FL.; a stepdaughter, Sarah Timon, of Stuart; 16 grandchildren;
17 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.jm. Monday at the Strunk Funeral
Home in Vero Beach, with Rev. Jerry LaMothe, os St. Helen's Catholic
Church, oficiating. Buriel followed in Fellsmere Cemetery. Strunk
Funeral Home was in charge of arragements.
LORAN BOWER
ROSELAND --- Loran L. Bowser, 72, of Lewis Road, Roseland, a retired
farmer, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Sebastian River Medical Center,
Mr. Bowser was a native of Armstrong County, Pa., and moved to Indian
River County eight years ago from Kittanning, Pa., and was affiliated
with both the Nazarene and Baptist Churches.
Survivors are his wife, Viola, of Roseland; five sons, Ralph and
William, bothe of Worthington Pa., Ross, of Millers Town, Pa.; Sidney,
of Twinsburg, Oh.; and Ronald, of Ravenna, Oh.; two daughters, Martha
Wible, of Walkchock, Pa., and Rose McElfresh, of Worthington; 19
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A funeral service and burial was held in Kittaning. Local arrangements were by the Strunk Funeral Home.
IRENE GRAY
SEBASTIAN --- Irene H. Gray, 93, of 407 S.W. Ponoka St., Sebastian, died
Friday, Sept. 23, at her home.
A native of Cincinnati, Mrs. Gray lived in Vero Beach for 30 years
before moving to Sebastian, in 1980.
She was a homemaker and was affiliated with the Trinity Episcopal
Church, in Vero Beach.
She is survived by a sister, Ethele R. Witt, of San Diego, Ca. At
the request of the family there was no repose or visitation. A private
service was held under the direction of the Strunk Funeral Home, of
Sebastian.
TINA REYNOLDS
PALM BAY --- A funeral service for Tina Reynolds, 17 of 1007 S.W. Bounty
Ave., Palm Bay, was held Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Palm
Bay.
Miss Reynolds was a student at Melbourne High School, and a Brevard
County resident foe eight years. She died Thursday, Sept. 27, from
injuries received in an automobile accident on Sept. 19.
Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Reynolds, of Palm Bay;
Two brothers, Daniel Jr., and Robert, both, of Palm Bay; her grandmother
Marion Green, of Palm Bay; and her grandfather, Walter Reynolds of
Hudson, N.Y.
Broenlie-Maxwell Funeral Home, of Merbourne, was in charge of
arrangements.
REBECCA F. BERGBOM
Rebecca F. Bergbom, 65, of 101-A Central Ave., Sebastian, died Thursday
Oct. i6 at the Sebastian River Medical Center.
She was a resident of this area for 23 years, and a native of Suffolk,
Na. Mrs. Bergman was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Donald, of Grant; a daughter, Bobbie Wilson
of Wabasso; a sister, Sandy Vossler, of Newport News, Va; three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
The funeral was held Saturday at the Pottinger & Son Funeral Home
in Sebastian and burial was in the Sebastian Cemetery.
P. ELOISE BOURNE
P. Eloise Bourne, 901 SW Pecan Circle, Barefoot Bay, died, Monday, Oct.
3, at Indian River Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Bourne was a native of Downings, Va., and came to Barefoot Bay
from Maryland five years ago.
Survivors are her husband, Earnest, of Barefoot Bay; a son, Earnest
L Jr., of Selbyville; a brother, Frank H. Simmonds, Reistertown, Md.;
six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held in Baltimore, Md., and Fountainhead
Memorial, of Palm Bay, was in charge of local arrangements. there were
no local calling hours.
MARIE R. DUSTMAN
PALM BAY - A funeral service for Marie R. Dustman, 74 of Palm Bay, was held
Monday, in Merechantville, N.J.
Mrs. Dustman was a homemaker and Brevard County residents. She died
Friday, Sept. 30, in Camden, N.J.
Survivors are her husband, George, of Palm Bay; a daughter, Mengano,
of Pannsakken, N.J.; three sons, George Jr., of Norwell, Mass.; Anthony,
of Burke, Va., and Edward of Middletown, N.J.; 14 grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM CONNELY
William K. Connely, 74, of 900 Hawthorne Circle, Barefoot Bay, a retired ordinance department head for a firm making war materials, died
Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Sebastian River Medical Center.
Mr. Connely was a resident of this area for 10 years coming here from
Fort Lauderdale. He was a native of Glasgow, Scotland.
He initiated the Lawn Bowling Club Association, of Barefoot Bay. He
was a member of the Shuffleboard Club and the Men's Golf Association,
both in Barefoot Bay.
He is survived by a brother, George, of Detroit, Mich. Funeral services
were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Strunk Funeral Home, in Sebastian,
with Rev. Stan Sanford, pastor of the Wabasso First Baptist Church
officiating.
JAMES E. GEHRIG
James E Gehrig, 29 of 697 Noble st. Sebastian, died Monday, Oct. 2, in
Orlando. Mr. Gehrig was a native of Hartford, Conn. He moved to Indian
River County six years ago from Little Silver, N.J. He was a chef.
Survivors include two brothers, John A "Jake" Gehrig, of Vero Beach,
and Wlliam Gehrig, of Sebastian.
There was no visitation or funeral service at the request of the
family. Arrangements were under the direction of the Strunk Funeral
home, Vero Beach.
ANDREW PELTZ
GRANT --- The funeral of Andrew Peltz, 64, of 6300 Old Dixie Highway, Grant
was held Wednesday, Oct.5, at the Pottinger and Son Funeral Home, in
Sebastian.
Mr. Peltz, owner and operator of a service station in Brevard County
died Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Sebastian River Medical Center.
Survivors are his wife Genevieve, of Grant; a daughter, Joan Moore, of
Corbin, Ky., three sisters living outside the state, and one granddaughter.
FRANK VICKERS
Frank Vickers, 47, a resident of Gainesville, and a native of Sebastian, died Thursday, Oct 6, in Gainseville.
Mr. Vickers was a professor of computer and information science in the
department of engineering at the University of Florida, in Gainesville.
He is survived by his wife, Nona of Gainesville; a daughter, Jennifer,
also of Gainesville; his mother, Estelle, of Merbourne; and a brother
Jack Power, also of Melbourne. The funeral was held Sunday at the
University United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the University of
Florida's Foundation in memory of Frank Vickers. The foundation will
fund an annual award to be presented in his name to a computer and
information sciences engineering student. Contributions may also be
made in memory of Frank Vickers to the University United Methodist Music
Fund.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hohnson-Hayes
Funeral Home, in Gainesville.
EDGAR L. WILSON
Edgar L. Wilson, 66, Old Dixie Highway, Winter Beach, a retired
machine operator for a local fruit packinghouse, died Monday, Oct.3, at
his home.
Born in Ellendale, Del., Mr. Wilson moved to Indian River County 16
years ago from Delaware.
Survivors are his wife, Velma, of Winter Beach; a son Edgar, of
Sharktown, Md.; a daughter, Ellen, of South Carolina; his mother, Carrie
Bennett, of Milford Del.; a sister Florence Noel of Lewis, Del.; Five
brothers , Granville and Tommy, both of Georgetown, Del., Clarence, of
Seatord, Del., Elmer, of Milford, Del., and David Jr., of Pennsylvania;
a half sister Jennillee Durham, of Rossville, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
At the request of the family there was no repose or visitation.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Strunk Funeral Home, of
Vero Beach.
THOMAS BRYANT
Thomas H. Bryant, 63, of 1340 99th St., Fellsmere, a supervisor at Fellsmere Farms for the past 37 years, died Sunday, Oct. 16, at Holmes Regional Medical Center, in Melbourne.
Mr. Bryant was a native of Macon, GA., and a resident of Indian River County for 37 years. He came here from Madison, Fl.
He was a Baptist, and a veteran of World War 11, having served with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Fellsmere; a daughter, Sandra Ellis, of Fellsmere; two sisters, Olie Robinson, of Moultrie, Ga., and Mary Lee Vicks, of Quitman, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Strunk Funeral Home Chapel in Sebastian. Burial followed in Sebastian Cemetery.
CHARLES J. HESS
Charles J. Hess, 71, of Indian River Shores Trailer Park, Sebastian, died Friday, Oct. 21, at the Sebastian River Medical Center. Mr. Hess was a native of New York City and came to Sebastian 46 years ago from Long Island, N.Y. He was a retired machinist.
There are no survivors. In keeping with his wishes there will be no memorial services. Fountainhead Memorial Park, in Palm Bay, is in charge of arrangements.
FAY MATHIOT
A funeral service for Fay Etta Mathiot, 91, of 417 Osprey Drive, Barefoot Bay, was held in Mount Eaton, Ohio.
Mrs. Mathiot died Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Sebastian River Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a Brevard resident for 12 years.
Survivors are a daughter, Violet Mercer, of Barefoot Bay; a sister living outside the state; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
South Brevard Funeral Home, in Melbourne, was in charge of arrangements. Donations may be made to the fund at Sebastian River Medical Center.
MILTON BURT
Milton R. Burt, 62, of 1112 Royal Palm Dr., Barefoot Bay, a retired banker from Watkins Glen, N.Y. died Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the West Melbourne Health Care Center, in Melbourne.
Mr. Burt was a cashier at the Glen Bank and Trust Co. Before his retirement, and moved to Barefoot Bay, in 1980. He was a native of Orange, N.Y.
Survivors are his wife, Catherine; a son, James, of Poughquag, N.Y.; a daughter, Janis Gould, of Rennselaer, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Barefoot Bay Baptist Church chapter. The family requested that there be no viewing.
Donations can be made to the Barefoot Bay Baptist Church, the American Diabetes Foundation or the Micco Volunteer Ambulance Squad.
Arrangements were under the direction of Pottinger and Son Funeral Home, Sebastian.
DONALD R. CAREY
A memorial service for Douglas R. Carey, 64, of El Capitan Mobile Park, Sebastian was held Saturday at St. Williams Catholic Church, in Sebastian.
Mr. Carey was a retired union representative and an Indian River County resident for two years. He died Thursday Oct. 20, at the Indian River Memorial Hospital, in Vero Beach.
Survivors are his wife, Mary, of Sebastian; a son, Douglas, of Ocala; five stepchildren, John Nelson III and Marie Vyner, both of Hollywood, Jeffrey Nelson, of Fort Lauderdale, Pamela Geraghty, of Clearwater, and Linda Hoffman, of Vero Beach; and one sister, living outside the state.

A funeral service for Paul Bernard Haag, 64, of Shady Rest Mobile Home Park, Sebastian, was held Saturday at St. Williams Catholic Church in Sebastian.
Mr. Haag was a retired superintendent for National Gypsum Mine, of Shoals, Ind., and an Indian River County resident for two years. He died Wednesday Oct. 19, at the Sebastian River Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Alma, of Sebastian; a son, Larry, of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Judy Cavender, of Evansville, Ind.; five brothers and three sisters, all living outside the state; six grand-children and three great grandchildren.
Strunk Funeral Home of Sebastian was in charge of arrangements.
JOHN M. ZAPP
A service for John M. Zapp 90, of 179 Holiday Park Blvd., Palm Bay, a retired foreman for security installers, was held Friday, Oct. 21, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Palm Bay.
Mr. Zapp died Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Carnegie Gardens Nursing Home, in Melbourne.
Survivors are a daughter, Miriam Oppenheimer; a brother, Peter Zapp, of Palm Bay; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made to the harbor City Volunteer Ambulance Squad, in Melbourne, or to the Bethesda Baptist Retirement Home.
