Norma Kocic
Norma Marie Kocic, 74, of Sebastian, died Aug. 21, 1997, at Sebastian River Medical Center,
Roseland, after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 23, 1922, in
Chicago, Ill., and moved to Sebastian in 1982, from North Riverside,
Ill.
Mrs. Kocic was co-owner of Big
John Union 76 in North Riverside.
Surviving are her husband of 55
years, John; two sons, John Kocic,
of Mesquite, Texas, and Paul S.
Kocic, of Fayetteville, N.C.; a
brother, Arthur Miller, of Elk Grove
Village, Ill.; three grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held
Aug. 25 at Strunk Funeral Home,
Sebastian, with the Rev. Paul E.
Hauenstein of Christ the King Lutheran Church officiating.

Mary Drummond
Mary Ann Drummond, 70, of Sebastian, diedAug. 21, 1997, at her
residence after a prolonged illness.
She was born March 28, 1927,
in Detroit, and moved to Sebastian
eight years ago from Muskegon,
Mich.
Mrs. Drummond was a retired
supervisor for Scott Paper Co. in
Muskegon. She was a member of
Space Coast Doll Club in Melbourne.
Surviving are her husband
John; three sons, Kyle Cunningham, of Key West, and Brant Cunningham and Drew Cunningham,
both of Detroit; one daughter,
Michelle Luke, of Sebastian; two
stepdaughters, Vicki Athnos, of
Chesapeake, Va., and Anita Hayes,
of Sommerville, Ohio; one stepson,
Steven Drummond, of Washington,
D.C.; and 10 grandchildren.
At the family's request, there
will be no repose or visitation. No
services are scheduled.
Mrs. Drummond was a member
of Indian River Cremation Society.
Carolyn Wright
Carolyn Wright, 78, of Micco,
died Aug. 23, 1997, at Sebastian
River Medical Center, Roseland, after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 19, 1918, in
Newburgh, N.Y., and moved to Brevard County in 1987 from her
birthplace.
Mrs. Wright was a partial owner
of Orange County Custom Cabinets.
Surviving are her husband, Lawrence; a son, Ronald Wright, of
Hamilton, N.Y.; a daughter, Judith
Wright, of Micco; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pete Shivers
Ovid M. "Pete" Shivers Sr., 70, of
Sebastian, died unexpectedly Aug.
19, 1997, at Indian River Memorial
Hospital.
Mr. Shivers was born Oct. 29,
1926, in Avon Park, and moved to
Sebastian in 1960 from his birthplace.
He was an automotive mechanic
and retired from Brevard Groves.
He was a member of the National
Rifleman's Association, and served
with the National Guard.
Surviving are two sons, Buddy
Shivers, of Roseland, and John
Wesley Shivers, of Sebastian; two
daughters, Betty Doty, of Sebastian,
and Janet Christena, of Vero Beach;
one brother, James Hardy Shivers,
of Zolfo Springs; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Aug.
23 at the Strunk Funeral Home chapel, Sebastian, with the Rev. Howard Hanley, of Highlands Chapel
Church of God, Sebastian, officiating.
Interment followed in Sebastian
Cemetery.
Peter Zuke
Peter C. Zuke, 80, of Micco, died Sept. 26,
1997, at Sebastian River Medical Center after a
lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Baldwinsville,
N.Y., and had been a resident of Micco since
1966, moving here from Syracuse, N.Y.
Mr. Zuke was a retired farmer. He was the
owner/operator of the Reel Inn in Roseland
from 1967 to 1983.
Survivors include his daughter, Rosanna
Summerville, of Jordan, N.Y.; two sons, Stephen
Zuke of Baldwinsville, and Pete Zuke, of Phoenix, N.Y.; a brother, Alex Zuck, of Baldwinsville; a sister, Anna Kenyon of Baldwinsville;
seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Sept. 30 at the
Strunk Funeral Home Chapel, Sebastian, with
the Rev.Lucien Duquette officiating.

Virginia Ray
Virginia L. "Ginny" Ray, 69, of Barefoot Bay,
died Sept. 28, 1997, at Sebastian River Medical
Center after a prolonged illness.
She was born April 5, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo.,
and moved to Barefoot Bay in 1957 from her
birthplace.
Mrs. Ray was a homemaker and a member
of Concordia Lutheran Church, Barefoot Bay.
Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Raymond; two daughters, Luiiia Koepke, of Miami,
and Cheryl Lyda, of Nashville, Tenn.; one son,
Steven Koepke, of Gainesville; her stepmother,
Fritz Kleinschmidt, of St. Louis; one sister,
Geannie McCabe, of St. Louis; two brothers,
Raymond Seikel and Donald Seikel, both of St.
Louis; four grandchildren; and three great-
grandchildren.

Corinne Gertrude Everitt, 77, of
Barefoot Bay, died Oct. 2, 1997, at
Sebastian River Medical Center,
Roseland, after a prolonged illness.
She was born March 4, 1920, in
Buffalo, N.Y,, and moved to Barefoot Bay five years ago from Winter
Haven.
Ms. Everitt was a homemaker
and a member of Assembly of God
Church, Winter Haven.
Surviving are two daughters,
Elaine Osberg, of Phoenix, Ariz.,
and Carole Apello, of Ocean City,
Md.; and two sons, David Everitt, of
Gilbert, Ariz., and Thomas Everitt,
of Phoenix.
A private memorial service will be
held by the family at Sebastian
River Worship Center.

Bill Bepler
William Harold "Bill" Bepler Sr.,
77, of Sebastian, died Oct. 3, 1997,
at Indian River Memorial Hospital
after a prolonged illness.
He was born June 24, 1920, in
Brooklyn, N,Y,, and moved to Sebastian 22 years ago from Ringwood, NJ.
Mr. Bepler was a superintendent for the city of Sebastian for 17
years. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sebastian, and a U.S. Army veteran
World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 58
years, Catherine; one son, William
H. Bepler Jr., of Sebastian; one
brother, John Bode, of Hollywood;
one sister, Ruth Millwater, of Sebastian; three grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct.
7 at the Strunk Funeral Home chapel, Sebastian, with the Rev. Lucien
Duquette officiating. Interment
will follow in Sebastian Cemetery.
Ruth Egan
Ruth A. Egan, 86, 430 Banyan St.,
Sebastian, died Sept. 26, 1997, at
Sebastian River Medical Center,
Roseland.
She was born March 10, 1911,
in Cumberland, R.I., and moved to
Sebastian 25 years ago from her
birthplace.
Surviving are one daughter,
Priscilla Townson, of Pawtucket,
R.I.; four sons, Dean Egan, of
Cheste, Pa., Cabot Egan, of Elizabethtown, Ky., Orrin Egan, of Cumberland, and Dwight Egan, of
Sebastian; 10 grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.

David Pinkerton
David Eugene Pinkerton, 64, of Roseland,
died Oct. 11, 1997, at his residence after a prolonged illness.
He was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Kittanning,
Pa., and moved to Roseland three years ago
from Houston, Texas.
Mr. Pinkerton was a retired truck driver.
He was a member of the Eagles and the
V.F.W. in Roseland and in Kittanning. He was a
Purple Heart recipient, having served in the
U.S. Army in Vietnam.

Pinkerton, both of Oklahoma; two sons, Scott

Mr. Pinkerton was a member of the Indian

Joseph Schell
Joseph M. Schell, 78, of Sebastian, died Oct.
8, 1997, at Indian River Memorial Hospital after
a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Dayton
Ohio, and moved to Sebastian 20 years ago
from Orlando.
Mr. Schell was a retired tool and die maker
for Martin Marietta and was a U.S. Army Air
Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Florida Antique Tackle Collectors Club
and National Antique Tackle Collectors Club.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 106,
Edwardsburg, Mich.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Elsie; one
daughter, Patricia Schell, of Sebastian; two sisters, Margaret Kuhnle, of Kettering, Ohio, and
Nancy Larson, of Anza, Calif.

Howard Wilt
Howard Frances Wilt, 74, of Sebastian, died
Oct. 8, 1997, at his residence after a prolonged
illness.
He was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Baltimore,
Md., and moved to Sebastian in 1986 from Kitty
Hawk, N.C.
Mr. Wilt was employed with the U.S. government in quality control at the Naval Engineering Center, Washington, D.C., for 30 years.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World
War 11 and the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
He was a member of the 4th Marine Division Chapter No. 12 of Florida; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10210, Sebastian; and Elks
Lodge No. 2714, Sebastian.He was a Master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and the
Boumi Temple of the Shrine.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, May; one
son, Steven C. Wilt, of Greensboro, N.C.; one
brother, George Wilt, of Baltimore; and two
grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Oct. 11 at the
Strunk Funeral Home chapel, Sebastian, with
the Rev. Paul Hauenstein officiating. Elk's
Lodge and VFW services will follow at the funeral home chapel.Interment will be at a later
date at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

Thomas Clancy
Thomas Allen "Tom" Clancy, 46, of Sebastian, died Oct. 13, 1997, at University Community Hospital, Tampa, after a prolonged illness.
He was born March 7, 1951, in Bronx, N.Y.,
and moved to Sebastian 17 months ago from
Massapequa, N.Y.
Mr. Clancy was a therapist at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland. He was a
member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian, and Eagles Sebastian Inlet Aerie No.
4067.He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam
War.
Surviving are his wife of nine years, Susan;
one son, Thomas A. Clancy Jr., of Sebastian; one
daughter, Kathryn C. Clancy, of Sebastian; his
parents, Robert and Olive Clancy, of Gaines
ville, Texas; three brothers, Michael Clancy, of
Virginia Beach, Va., Robert Clancy Jr., of Ohio,
James Clancy, of Long Island, N.Y.; two sisters,
Lorraine Boecko, of Gainesville, and Ginny
Clancy, of Arizona.

Ruby Anderson
Ruby M. Anderson, 89, of Wabasso, died Oct.
11, 1997, at her residence after a prolonged illness.
She was born Sept. 3, 1908, in Swifton, Ark.,
and moved to the Wabasso area in 1916 from
her birthplace.
Mrs. Anderson was the owner and operator
of Anderson's Grocery Store, Wabasso, from
1944 to 1959.She was a member of the Church
of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary,
both of Sebastian.
Surviving are two sons; Robert M. Anderson,
of Wabasso, and Richard M. Anderson, of Sebastian; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Richard DeGroeve
Richard Thomas "Rich" DeGraeve, 60, of Sebastian, died unexpectedly Oct. 11, 1997, at Sebastian River Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Mishawaka,
Ind., and moved to Sebastian 32 years ago from
Kissimmee.
Mr. DeGraeve was the owner and operator
of the Cowboy Corner, Sebastian, for 11 years.
He was a member of the National Rifleman's Association, the Single Action Shooters Society,
the Port Malabar Gun Club and the Florida Knifemakers Guild. He was a former member of
the Sebastian Volunteer Fire and Ambulance
Squad and served as an officer with the Sebastian Police Department and was a member of
the Sebastian Planning and Zoning Commission.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Joyce; two
daughters, Lisa Klein, of Cocoa, and Amanda
White, of Tampa; three sisters, Barbara De
Graeve, of Dallas, Patricia Williamson, of Glen
Ellyn, Ill., and Carol Wenzel, of Granger, Ind.;
and four grandchildren,

Hugh Goodwin
Hugh F. Goodwin, 80, of Sebastian, died Oct.
12, 1997, at Sebastian River Medical Center after
a prolonged illness.
He was born Jan. 19, 1917, in Springfield,
Mass,, and moved to Sebastian in 1978 from
Windsor, Vt.
Mr. Goodwin was a supervisor at Goodyear
Tire and Rubber Co., Windsor. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian,
and the Knights of Columbus, Windsor. He was
a former exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge, Windsor.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Geraldine; one son, Charles Goodwin, of University
Place, Wash.; one daughter, Patricia "Peg" Chabot, of Claremont, N.H.; one sister, Fernie Rinaldi, of Enfield, Conn.; and four
grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.

William H. "Bill" Provost, 72, of Sebastian,
died unexpectedly Oct. 10, 1997, at Sebastian
River Medical Center.
He was born June 14, 1925, in Clifton, N.J.,
and moved to Sebastian 10 years ago from Toms
River, N.J.
Mr. Provost was a general foreman and
member of Pipe Fitters Local No. 274 of New
Jersey.He was a Merchant Marines veteran of
World War II.He was a Catholic and a member
of the Sebastian River High School Boosters Association.
Surviving are one son, David Provost, of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters, Carol Hanenberg
and Janet Provost, both of Raleigh; one stepson,
Jack Hodge, of Sebastian; two stepdaughters,
Donna Donini and Bonnie Biggs, both of Sebastian; five sisters, Helen Esser, of Florida, Sis
Maitland, Marion Flanigen, Pet Seminara and
Gladys Provost, all of New Jersey; and nine
grandchildren.

Myrtle Irene Smith 77, of Micco, died

Mrs. Smith was a housekeeper. She was
a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church
and Eagles Sebastian Inlet Aerie No. 4067.

Pafford, of Micco; eight grandchildren; and
13 great-grandchildren.

Oswald Blidgen
Oswald Samuel Blidgen, 74, 8315 62nd
Ave., Wabasso, died Oct. 13, 1997, at Sebastian River Medical Center after a brief
illness.
He was born March 11, 1923, in Manchester, Jamaica, and moved to Wabasso
more than 40 years ago from Jamaica.
Mr. Blidgen was a citrus laborer.
Surviving are his wife, Blanche, of Vero
Beach; eight sons, Howard Blidgen, of
Hartford, Conn., William Blidgen and Dan
Aaron, both of Vero Beach, Aubrey Blidgen, of Clorando, Jamaica, Tony Biidgen,
of Mandeville, Jamaica, and Stanley Blidgen, Samuel Blidgen and Dale Blidgen, all
of Boston; five daughters, Rose Ebanks, of
Manchester, Jamaica, Inez Blidgen, of Canada, Lou Blidgen, of England, Valda Elling
ton, of Hartford, and Lucille Blidgen, of
Boston; and two sisters, Gerlie Mussett, of
Manchester, Jamaica, and Enid, of St.
Thomas, Jamaica.

Josephine Devinney
Josephine Frances Devinney, 101, of
Barefoot Bay, died Oct. 15, 1997, at Mariner Health of Atlantic Shores, Melbourne,
after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 10, 1896, in Philadelphia, and moved to Barefoot Bay in
1980 from Springfield, Pa.
Mrs. Devinney was a homemaker. She
was a member of St. Luke's Catholic
Church, Barefoot Bay.
Surviving are two daughters, Josephine
"Jane" Martinez, of Barefoot Bay, and Gertrude Herbert, of Philadelphia; one son,
Edward Devinney, of Philadelphia; nine
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren;
and four great-greatgrandchildren.

from Fort Lauderdale.
Mrs. Karr was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years,
Edward; three sons, Edward P. Karr,
Fellsmere, and John T. Karr and Thomas
Karr, both of Sebastian; six grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild.
