Lt. Col. Ret. Ralph A. Gruber, 87, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Jacksonville and moved to this area 24 years ago from Richmond, Va. He was a retired procurement analyst for the U.S. Government, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a member of VFW Post 10209, Spring Hill, American Legion Post 99, Brooksville, AMVETS Post 1981, Hudson, Retired Officers Association, Upper Suncoast Chapter, New Port Richey, and Hernando Council for Veterans.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela of Columbus, Ohio; a stepson, William S. Mitchell of Cocoa Beach; a sister, Florence Touchton of Birmingham, Ala.; a niece; and several nephews.

Belek B. Bednarski, 86, of Brooksville, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Oak Hill Hospital.
He was born in New York, N.Y., and moved to this area 20 years ago from Long Island, N.Y. He was a retired New York Police Officer with 32 years of service, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the Heather Gold Club and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Emily; two sons, Daniel Bednarski of Spring Hill and Stephen Bednarski of Hudson; a daughter, Barbara Klein of Brooksville; a sister, Wanda Davidowsky of Newburgh, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren

Raymond Viveiros, 76, of Brooksville, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Oak Hill Hospital.
He was born in Fall River, Mass., and moved to this area 12 years ago from Springfield, Mass. He worked 20 years for the City of Springfield, in which he retired as a welder. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served for 21 years, during which he fought in World War II, Korean conflict and Vietnam War. He was a Catholic by faith.
Survivors include four sons, Raymond Viveiros Jr. and Kenneth Viveiros, both of Brooksville, Vernon Viveiros of Georgia and Darrel Viveiros of Florida; a brother, Paul of Swansea, Mass.; four sisters, Vera Viveiros of Florida, Delores Barboza of Dighton, Mass., Bertha Fournier of Fall River, Mass., and Evelyn Medeiros of Connecticut; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary Mauriello, 91, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, in Pasco County.

Jason Eric Byrd, 41, of Brooksville, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005.
He was born in Brooksville and was a lifelong resident. He was a probation officer, U.S. Army veteran and a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Jason Byrd Jr., Jamar Byrd and Jamel Byrd, all of Brooksville; a daughter, Ja'Shayla Byrd of Brooksville; his father, Booker T. Byrd of Brooksville; his mother, Hattie M. Byrd of Brooksville; three brothers, Markel Moore and Rodney Byrd, both of Brooksville, and Ken Moore of Sanford; and two sisters, Valerie Swinson of Maitland and Sharon Washington of Lake Mary.

Bobbie Jan Taylor, 47, of Brooksville, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in Brooksville.
She was born in Polk County and moved to this area 37 years ago from Arcadia. She was a social worker for Pasco and Sumter counties, graduated from Hernando High School, and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Brooksville. She had earned an associate's degree from PHCC and bachelor's degree from St. Leo University.
Survivors include two sons, Eric and Preston Thel Ellis, both of Brooksville; her mother, Louise Taylor of Brooksville; a sister, Sherry Schlereth of Gainesville, Ga.; and a grandchild.

Janet G. Lavery, 85, of Brooksville, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, Tampa.
She was born in Peabody, Mass., and moved to this area 41 years ago from Salem, Mass. She was supervisor of nurses at Stuart Memorial Hospital, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the DAV, American Legion Post 99, DAR, Florida WACS Post 97 and Lake Lindsey Methodist Church.
Survivors include her brother, Robert Merrow of Hampstead, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews.

Patrica Sugarek, 82, of Spring Hill, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Unit, Chatman Boulevard, Brooksville.
She was born in Manly, Australia, and moved to this area two years ago from Tampa. She was a graduate of the University of Sydney, majoring in art. She was a member of the Officer's Wife Club at MacDill Air Force Base and the Church of England.
Survivors include her daughter, Candace Sugarek of Tampa; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

Robert W. Bufford, 77, of Brookridge, Brooksville, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Unit, Chatman Boulevard, Brooksville.
He was born in West Frankfort, Ill., and moved to this area 30 years ago from Bolingbrook, Ill. He was a retired warehouse manager for Kraft Foods.
Survivors include a son, Lon Curry of Aurora, Ill.; five daughters, Diana Eisenberg, Shirley Etheridge, and Donna McGuire, all of Amboy, Ill., Linda Bonnell of Sublette, Ill., and Judy Judd of Dixon, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jean Elizabeth Thomson, 78, of Spring Hill, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Unit, Chatman Boulevard, Brooksville.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to this area 46 years ago from Binghamton, N.Y. She was an artist but in her younger years she was a stewardess for TWA and later owned multiple businesses. She worked extensively in the art field, doing stained glass for local churches, a sculpture for Honeywell and canvases for General Electric. She also owned and operated a ceramics shop in Largo and in her later years went to the Dominican Republic as a missionary for Worldwide Christian Schools, where she taught English and job trades.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Rowe of Spring Hill and Cindy Waite of Odessa, Mich.; a sister, Shirley Horner of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

John M. Rill, 86, of Cape Coral, formerly of Spring Hill, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Gulf Coast Village.
He was born in Chicago, Ill., and had moved to Spring Hill 17 years ago from Niles, Mich. He was a machinist for many years for the City of Chicago's Sanitation Department, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a life member of VFW Post 8463, Cape Coral, and a member of Lodge 126 International Brotherhood of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Spring Hill.
Survivors include three daughters, Rita Krueger of Cape Coral, Diana Le Bherz of Eustis and Gloria Kelly of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Catherine Zubrus of Spring Hill; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Todd B. Seerveld, 40, of Spring Hill, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at his home.
He was born in Westwood, N.J., and moved to this area 12 years ago from Long Island, N.Y. He was a self-employed truck driver, a girl's softball coach, and a Protestant by faith.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly Jean; a daughter, Elena Jean-Marie "Tootsie Roll" Seerveld of Spring Hill; his parents, Elena and Charles Seerveld of Orange, Vt.; a brother, Tom K. of Orange; and a sister, Geri Witters of St. Johnsbury, Vt.

Elmer B. Day, 63, of Brooksville, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at his home.
He was born in Tazewell, Va., and moved to this area 22 years ago from Clearwater. He was an insurance agent, opening the first State Farm Agency in Spring Hill in 1980. He had previously taught business courses in Largo, Pinellas Park and Clearwater. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 141, Berwind, W.Va., and the Egypt Shrine Temple, Tampa.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; three sons, David Day of Spring Hill, John Day of Sarasota and Robert Day of Gastonia, N.C.; a daughter, Susan Brown of Safety Harbor; a brother, John Day of Princeton, W.Va.; a sister, Pauline Hess of Clearwater Beach; and six grandchildren.

Veda Snyder, 83, of Brooksville, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Brooksville Regional Hospital.
She was born in Brookville, Ohio, and moved to this area two years ago from Miami. She was a homemaker and a Catholic by faith.
Survivors include four sons, Terry Sanders of Brooksville, Billy Snyder of Miami, Jimmy Snyder of Port St. Lucie, and John Snyder of Melbourne; two daughters, Nancy Snyder and Pam Anderson, both of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Georgene R. Woytisek, 82, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Oak Hill Hospital.
She was born in New York, N.Y., and moved to this area 11 years ago from Monroe, N.C. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Walter; a son, Glenn Woytisek of North Carolina; a daughter, Gail Jones of Connecticut; a sister, Louise Sabelli of New York; and five grandchildren.

Robert Gordon "Bob" Marsh, 81, of Brooksville, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at home.
He was born in Warren, Ohio, and moved to Florida 51 years ago. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, having served in the African and Italian campaigns. He was a Social Studies teacher and taught at Hernando High School, Brooksville, from 1970-1972, where he sponsored the student government, quiz team and archaeology club and chaired the Teacher Salary Committee. He taught Social Studies at Springstead High School, Spring Hill, from 1973 to 1986, when he retired. He was department chairperson, guidance counselor, curriculum coordinator, and acting assistant principal from 1976-1977 under Principal John Donato. He also taught part-time at all campuses of Pasco-Hernando Community College from 1973 to 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Kirkman Marsh; a son, Robert G. Marsh II; a daughter, Vicki Rohmiller; a stepdaughter, Patricia Raposa; a stepson, David B. Brown; a sister, Betty J. Wilmoth; five grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

William "Billy" Jones, 47, of Brooksville, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at home.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was a construction worker and a Christian by faith.
Survivors include his mother, Luella Jones of Brooksville; a brother, E. Jay Jones of Brooksville; a sister, Luann Andrews of Holiday; two sons, Ryan Brisbin of Pennsylvania and Zammy Baker of Crystal River; and many nieces, nephews and stepchildren.

Reverend Quinn C. Fisher, 85, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Brooksville Regional Hospital.
He was born in Burke County, N.C., and moved to this area six years ago from Clearwater. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a Baptist Minister serving in Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn C.; two sons, James Quinn Fisher of Green, Kan., and Mark B. Fisher of Winter Springs; a daughter, Jane Fisher Raffield of Old Fort, N.C.; a sister, Ella Rush Rowell of Texarkana, Texas; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James R. Bess, 75, of Brooksville, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Brooksville Regional Hospital.
He was born in Harriman, Tenn., and moved to this area 47 years ago from Rockwood, Tenn. He was a retired self-employed truck driver who was the owner/operator of Big J Trucking. He was a former Weeki Wachee boat captain in the 1960s and 1970s. He helped build the Sinclair dinosaur, which is now known as Harold's Garage on U.S. 19 in Spring Hill. He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran and a Pentecostal by faith.
Survivors include three sons, Jimmy of Brooksville, Arville of Lebanon, Tenn., and Adam of Deltona; a daughter, Linda Bess of Spring Hill; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Narciso Cruz Jr., 79, of Spring Hill, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Ensenada, Puerto Rico, and moved to this area 18 years ago from Valley Stream, N.Y. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving as Seaman 1st Class. He was a printing lithographer and a member of First Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria; a daughter, Diane; three sisters, Delores, Betty and Rosie; and three grandchildren.

Ralph Kenneth Blackall, 87, of Brooksville, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Unit, Chatman Boulevard, Brooksville.
He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., and returned to this area a year ago after residing in Leesburg for 19 years. He was a retired architect for the Federal Housing Authority and a member of the Masons, Grand Rapids, and First Lutheran Church of Ridge Manor West, Ridge Manor.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; two daughters, Anita Flowers of Groveland and Mary Locke of Ridge Manor; eight grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Michael C. Crawford, 61, of Spring Hill, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Bennington, Vt., and moved to this area 13 years ago from Littleton, N.H. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer First Class, and was a member of the VFW, DAV, American Legion, Elks Lodge 2582 of Brooksville, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine; a son, Chris of Spring Hill; a daughter, Kathleen Venturella of Spring Hill; three brothers, Frank and John, both of Bennington, and Walter of Arlington, Vt.; three sisters, Marion Boutin of North Bennington, Vt., Sally King of Cambridge, N.Y., and Sue Bull of Bennington; and four grandchildren.

Geraldine Staggers, 85, of Spring Hill, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Unit, Chatman Boulevard, Brooksville.
She was born in Garrison, W.Va., and moved to this area recently from Beckley, W.Va. She retired from the Rustoleum Paint Co. as a factory worker after 15 years of service.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth of Spring Hill and Harry of Whitesville, W.Va.; a daughter, Judith Terry of Johnstown, Ohio; a brother, Bill Burnside of Beverly Hills; two sisters, Maxine Bradford of Dry Creek, W.Va., and Eileen Martin of Beckley; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Andrew Dunham of Roslindale, Mass., and Robert Dunham of Brooksville; a daughter, Shirley Manucci of Hernando; four brothers, James Hopkins and Robert Hopkins, both of West Warwick, R.I., David Hopkins of Coventry, R.I., and John B.
