Gilberto Vazquez, 80, of Spring Hill, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Unit, Chatman Boulevard, Brooksville.
He was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, and moved to this area 20 years ago from Bronx, N.Y. He retired as a New York City elementary school principal after a career as a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a Bronze Star recipient, a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, helped start Spring Hill Christian Academy, and served as Past Master of the Caxton Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Margarita; two sons, David of Wurtsboro, N.Y., and Daniel of Northvale, N.J.; a brother, Julio of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; a sister, Edith Esparra of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico; and many nieces and nephews.

Florence M. Balatsos, 77, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday, May 25, 2004, at Evergreen Woods Health Care Center.
She was born in Belleville, N.J., and moved to this area 14 years ago from Kearny, N.J. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star in New Jersey.

He moved to this area 20 years ago from New Fane, N.Y. He retired from Western Electric Company, Buffalo, N.Y., as an industrial truck operator after 26 years of service. He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran, serving both the State of New York and the Federal Government, and was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Maryann; a daughter, Deborah Ann Dickinson of Medina, Ohio; a brother, Edward Makowski of Buffalo; and two granddaughters.

He was born in Jamaica, N.Y., and moved to this area 29 years ago from West Babylon, N.Y. He was a retired electrician for Long Island Railroad, a World War II U.S. Navy Seabees veteran, and a charter member of Hernando Beach Yacht Club.

David Maxwell “Max” Brayton, 89, of Brooksville, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007 at Brooksville Regional Hospital. He was born in Grawn, Mich., and moved to this area 75 years ago from Mt. Morris, Mich.
Mr. Brayton was owner and operator of Brayton & Brayton Accountants, Inc., a former city commissioner, original board member of Brooksville Golf & Country Club, and was a Methodist by faith.

Mr. Porlides was known as “Skee” and was a commodity trader and assistant vice president of Bunge Corporation, New York, N.Y. He was elected for 10 years as president of the National Burlap/Jute Association. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran and was Greek Orthodox by faith.

Timothy Eugene Herod, 49, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. He was born in Fremont, Ohio, and moved to the area 14 years ago from Seymour, Ind.
Mr. Herod was a truck driver for the Wal-Mart Distribution Center and co-owner of Karen’s Dance Supply in Spring Hill. He was a member of Family First Assembly of God.

Ms. Baggett was an environmental technician for Swiftmud for 24 years, 5th generation Floridian, and founding member of Spring Hill Bible Church.

Mrs. Yates was a high school French teacher and a member of the National Alliance for Mental Illness, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Warwick Teachers Union. She was also a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace.

Alexander N. “Alex” Civello, 69, of Weeki Wachee, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007 at Oak Hill Hospital. He was born in Corona, Long Island, N.Y., and moved to this area 22 years ago from Long Island.
Mr. Civello owned and operated Bi County Counseling Center, Spring Hill. He was a playwright for Off Broadway shows, developed a program for the National Maritime Union for alcohol and drug rehabilitation that was implemented nationwide, was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carmina; a daughter, Simone Civello-Myers of Pensacola; a brother, Louis Civello of Sedona, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
