He was born in Warsaw, N.Y., and moved to this area six years ago from North Miami Beach. He was with the Clermont Police Department for five years, having served as a SWAT officer, patrolman, sniper, hostage negotiator and tactical medic. He was a member of Brooksville Noon Lions and Harley Owners Group. He was a 1st Lieutenant with the Civil Air Patrol of Hernando County.
Survivors include his wife, Merrille A.; two sons, Heath Saslovsky of Coral Springs and Joshua Saslovsky of Davie; his mother, Esther Jean of Brooksville; two brothers, Shawn Mason of Port St. Lucie and Stephen Mason of Plantation.

Despina Demetriou, 82, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville.
She was born in Asgata, Cyprus, and moved to this area 17 years ago from Westfield, Mass. She retired from Old Colony Envelope Company, Westfield, and was Greek Orthodox by faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Chris Rakowski of Spring Hill; two sons, Stelios of Vero Beach and Savvas of Spring Hill; two sisters, Kalypso of New York and Frosou of Sydney, Australia; two brothers, Demos Christoforou of New York and Angelo Christoforou of Connecticut; and seven grandchildren.

John Diem, 102, of Spring Hill, died Saturday, April 19, 2003 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Unit, Chatman Boulevard, Brooksville.
He was born in Appenzell, Switzerland, and moved to this area six years ago from Mt. Plymouth, where he lived for 37 years after coming from Paterson, N.J. He was a machinist for 38 years for Fair Lawn Dairy, Fair Lawn, N.J.
Survivors include his wife, Olga B.; a brother of France; and four sisters, all of France.

Mary R. Montie, 77, of Spring Hill, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at her home.
She was born in Detroit, Mich., and moved to this area 12 years ago from River Rouge, Mich. She was a homemaker and a Catholic by faith.
Survivors include three sons, Walter F. Nowak of California, George M. of Howell, Mich., and Paul V. of White Cloud, Mich.; two daughters, Michelle M. Kuthy of Spring Hill and Mary Jane Baker of Wyandotte, Mich.; three brothers, Jim Benedict, Diamond Benedict and Jerry Benedict, all of Allen Park, Mich.; two sisters, Toni Gresko of Garden City, Mich., and Joanne McAdams of Taylor, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

William A. Long Jr., 72, of Spring Hill, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at his home.
He was born in Smithtown, Long Island, N.Y., and moved to this area 17 years ago from Selden, Long Island, N.Y. He was a U.S. Army Korean conflict veteran. He worked for construction companies, was a member of the No. 1298 Road & Heavy Construction Union, and was a Protestant by faith.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria; two daughters, Susan Stenico of Spring Hill and Joyce Recchio of Florida; a sister, Margaret Wright of Bethesda, Md.; and four grandchildren.

Peter Fass, 75, of Spring Hill, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at his home.
He was born in Jamaica, N.Y., and moved to this area 13 years ago from Long Island, N.Y., after retiring from Northrop Grumman as an aircraft engraver. He was a World War II U.S. Air Corp veteran and an active member of the Weeki Wachee, Calusa, and National Woodcarvers associations.
Survivors include his nephew, James; a niece, Mary Fass of Franklin, Tenn.; a great-nephew, Joshua Fass of Franklin; and a great-niece, Radobice Fass of Franklin.

Violet L. Young, 81, of Brooksville, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at her home.
She was born in Jersey City, N.J., and moved to this area 12 years ago. She was a Methodist by faith and attended First United Methodist Church, Spring Hill, where she was a member of its Women's Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Beth Eastmond of Brooksville; two sons, William Young of Georgia and Robert Young of Virginia; two sisters, Katherine Wiese of Wisconsin and Geraldine Kaufmann of New Jersey; two brothers, Lawrence Kaufmann of Arizona and LeRoy Kaufmann of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was born in Aurora, Ill., and moved to this area 20 years ago from Chicago, Ill. He was a retired sales manager for a plumbing supply company, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the VFW in Chicago.
Survivors include two sons, Steve of Cleveland, Ohio, and Michael of Chicago; a daughter, Valerie Bender of Cleveland; a stepson, Jerry Dwyer of Kansas City, Mo.; three stepdaughters, Jennifer Morrow of Jupiter, Fla., Sally Youker of Heartland, Wis., and Debbie Beardsley of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 12 grandchildren.

She was born in Kearny, N.J., and moved to Hudson two years ago from Spring Hill, where she had moved 19 years ago from Wilmington, Del.
Survivors include a son, Robert F. Mahon of Randolph, N.J.; a daughter, Sherrill Kleer of Clearwater; a sister, Edna Johansen of Manahawkin, N.J.; and three grandchildren.

Alan K. Maden, 74, of Spring Hill, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at his home.
He was born in Burnley Lancashire, England, and moved to this area 11 years ago from London, England. He was a retired ship's captain on a private yacht, a veteran of England's Royal Horse Artillery having served in Palestine, a volunteer at Oak Hill Hospital, and a member of the Seven Hills Golfers Club.
Survivors include her husband, Gillian; a son, Nicholas; four daughters, Jane Breeze, Elizabeth Iddon and Frances McClelland, all of England; and six grandchildren.

He was born in Ferndale, Mich., and moved to this area a year ago from Michigan. He retired from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 58. He was a member of the Hernando Jazz Society and attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Spring Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia; two daughters, Kim Polulak of Clinton, Mich., and Diane Glennie of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.; a son, James M. of Clinton; and five grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia.

Thomas F. Leyden, 84, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Baldomero Lopez Veterans Nursing Home, Land O' Lakes.
He was born in Bronx, N.Y., and moved to this area 19 years ago from Long Island, N.Y. He retired as a building contractor in Suffolk County, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1941-45. He was a member of Elks Lodge 2582, Brooksville, and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.

He moved to this area 20 years ago. He was retired from General Motors; co-founder of K&S Sales, Columbus, N.J.; a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; and a member of Yardley Country Club, Yardley, Pa., and Oak Hills Golf Club, Spring Hill.
He is survived by a son, Bruce of Ponte Vedra Beach; a sister, Jean Coculo of Brooksville; and two grandchildren.

Doris Harrison Olszewski, 84, of Spring Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003.
Born in Liverpool, England, she moved to this area 25 years ago from Hartford, Conn., after growing up in New York.
She worked as a real estate agent and an assistant fashion buyer for the John Wanamaker Co. She served as president of the Connecticut Club and the Spring Hill Civic Association; was a vice-president of the West Hernando Republican Club; and a member of the Merry Widows Club of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church parish.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth of Blacksburg, Va., and Lawrence of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Donna Shea of Natick, Mass.; five granddaughters, Colleen, Lori, Wendi, Ellen and Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews.
