He was a tool and die maker for General Motors Corp., Dayton, and worked as a school bus driver for the Hernando County School District for 10 years. He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran, a member of Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council 6383, VFW Post 10209, Loyal Order of Moose 531, all of Spring Hill, and St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and head usher for 14 years and held numerous leadership positions in the St. Frances Cabrini Men's Club, Spring Hill.

In Massachusetts, he was involved in Scouting and Little League, was assistant fire chief of the Holland Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Holland Rod and Gun Club.
