Gideon F. Thompson, 73, of Spring Hill, died Friday, April 26, 2002 at Oak Hill Hospital.
He was a native of Depew, Okla., and a resident of this area and a seasonal resident of St. Petersburg for the past seven years coming from Mission Hills, Calif. He was a retired tech sergeant, a photographer for the Air Force, and a Methodist by faith.

He was born in Vidalia, Ga., and moved to this area a year ago from Port Charlotte, Fla. He was a retired supervisor for Southern Bell Telephone and a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. He was a medal winner in World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Silver Star.

Romie Lee Daniel MacKenzie, 93, of Brooksville, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Unit, Chatman Boulevard, Brooksville.
She was born in Spring Lake and was a lifetime resident of Hernando County. She attended school in her neighborhood of Spring Lake. Upon graduation from Hernando High School in 1927, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse on Powell in Spring Lake. She attended Florida State College for Women (now FSU) but elected not to continue teaching. She managed the officer of her father, Tom Daniel, Hernando County Tax Collector through the 20 years of his five elected terms. After 20 years in government work, she became a real estate broker and established her own brokerage office. Later she merged her office with Ed's law office and served as his secretary and office manager until retirement. Her casual interest in collecting old bottles developed into a formidable bottle collection that was reputed to be the largest general bottle collection in the U.S. The bulk of the collection was sold at three separate auctions since there was too many for a single auction. She attended Spring Lake Methodist Church during her youth and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a son, Edward S. MacKenzie III of Brooksville; a daughter, Virginia M. Vidal of Homosassa; a sister, Ada Westover of Brooksville; eight grandchildren, Richard F. MacKenzie, Pam Clinedinst, Virginia Lee Daniels, Carla Cornell, E. Spence MacKenzie IV, Kendra Yates, Laura Hardy and MacKenzie Zook; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
