He was a retired Chicago Police Lieutenant for 32 years, a special deputy U.S. Marshal assigned as court security to federal court buildings in Chicago and Tampa, a U.S. Army airborne veteran, and a Catholic by faith. He received a BA degree in management from DePaul University, Chicago. He was a member of West Englewood Masonic Lodge 1074, was a Scottish Rite Mason, Tampa, a Shriner, Egypt Temple, Tampa, a member of the FOP, Chicago Lodge No. 7, Chicago Police Detectives Association, 101st Airborne Division Association, NRA, and a life member of the Hernando Sportsman's Club.
