Robert A. Hicks, 77
Mr. Robert A. Hicks of Trenton died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at Trenton. He was 77 years old.
Mr. Hicks was born in Jacksonville and came here from Inverness 16 1/2 years ago. He was a barber. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a lifetime member of the DAV. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and folk art painting.
Survivors include his son, Allen Hicks of Bell; daughter, Beverly Jones of Trenton; brother, Billy Godwin of Kentwood, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Knauff Funeral Home, Chiefland, is in charge of arrangements.
Roy Erastus McCollister, 94
Mr. Roy Erastus McCollister died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Cypress Cove Care Center in Crystal River. He was 94 years old.
Mr. McCollister was a meat salesman in the Food Service Industries and also a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Helen McCollister of Crystal River; daughters, Pamela Scalise of Clearwater, Patricia Worrell of Dahlonega, GA, and Paula Bevan of Dade City; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 3, at 10:30 a.m., at McCall's Chapel Methodist in Old Town. Burial was in McCall's Chapel Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City.
James Thomas Matthews, 83
Mr. James Thomas Matthews died Friday, May 28, 2004, at the Lafayette Health Care Center in Mayo. He was 83 years old.
Mr. Matthews moved to Hatchbend in 1981 from Lakeland. He worked as a Railroad Flag man for the Seaboard Coastline.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Matthews of Hatchbend; daughter, Ella, of Lakeland; son, Jimmy Matthews of Polk City; stepson, David Douglas of Lakeland; stepdaughters, Lavonne Blessing of Wytheville, VA and Connie Youngblood of Lakeland. He had 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 3, at Hatchbend Baptist Church.
Arrangements were under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City.
Pauline Valentine Davis, 91
Mrs. Pauline Valentine Davis of Cross City passed away Saturday, August 9, 2003 after a long illness. She was 91.
Mrs. Davis was born in Jacksonville on April 15, 1912, the day the Titanic sank, and moved to Dixie County at the age of 14. She met and married Joseph Dewey Valentine on April 17, 1929 and was the mother of 11 children. In 1980 she married Stacy Davis.
Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by husbands, Dewey Valentine and Stacy Davis; daughters, Dorothy Valentine, Betty Miller and Diana Valentine; and an infant son.
She is survived by sons, Milton Valentine, Raymond Valentine, Dewey Valentine and Jerry Valentine, all of Old Town; daughters, Helen Groth of Horseshoe, Mary Clements, and Mary Jane Spurlin, both of Cross City; 24 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, August 11, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Mount Olive Cemetery in Jena with Rev. Mary Jane Spurlin and Rev. Sammy Corbin officiating.
Arrangements have been placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City.
