M.L. "Bud" Smith
M.L. "Bud" Smith, of Williston, died June 5, 2003, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 90.
Mr. Smith was born in Clarke County, Ala., and moved to this area in 1930. He was a retired mechanical and civil engineer in road construction.
He was a Methodist and a member of Ornan Masonic Lodge No. 117 in Williston. He was also a 36-year member of Shriner's Club.
He was a Williston City Council member from 1948 until 1954, and Levy County commissioner from 1948 until 1956. He served on several civic and community boards, including the Suwannee River Authority, the Florida Ship Canal Authority, and the Cross Florida Canal Navigation District.
He enjoyed fishing for salmon in Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claire Smith.
Survivors include a daughter, Eugenia Rowe of Chiefland; a sister, Mabel Smith of Foley, Ala.; a brother, Harper Smith of Thomasville, Ala.; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Marjorie M. Planeto, 84
Marjorie M. Planeto of Ocala, died Monday, August 4, 2003 at Summerfield Suites Hospice House. She was 84.
Mrs. Planeto was born in Harrion, IL. and moved from Chiefland to Ocala 4 years ago. She was a retired office clerk, a member of Levy County Quilt Club, a volunteer for Guardian Ad Litem of Levy County and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge. She loved making quilts, sewing and crafts.
She is survived by husband, Edward Planeto of Ocala; stepdaughter, Marsha Canady of Chapel Hill, TN.; 2 nieces and 1 grandchild.
Arrangements were under the care of Knauff Funeral Home, Chiefland.
Erma Whiteside, 79
Mrs. Erma Whiteside of Bronson, died on Friday, August 8, 2003 at her residence. She was 79.
She was born in Dugger, Indiana and came to the area 29 years ago from Southport, Indiana.
She was a member of the Disabled Veterans Auxiliary in Williston, was of the Protestant faith, and was a church custodian.
She is survived by 2 sons, James Robert Whiteside, Lake City and John Richard Whiteside, Southport, IN.; 5 daughters, Doris Perry, Debra Langlois, Darlene Smith and Donna Reinstra, all of Bronson and Deanna Dobbins, Williston; 1 sister, Colletta "Evelyn" Clampitt, Summerfield; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the care of Knauff Funeral Home, Williston.
