William Roy Baker Jr.
Bradenton
William Roy Baker Jr., 79, of Bradenton, died June 23, 2001, at home.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Manatee Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 322 15th St. W. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Fla., 34238, or Manatee Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 322 15th St. W., Bradenton, Fla. 34205.
Born in Marlow, Okla., Mr. Baker came to Manatee County from Potomac, Md., in 1986. He was a biomedical engineer, taught engineering at Vanderbilt University for 25 years, and was a program director at National Institutes of Health until his retirement in 1983. He attended Manatee Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Claire; a daughter, Emily Baker Runser, of Westminster, Md.; a stepdaughter, Lee W. Lolkema, of Edenton, N.C.; a son, William Roy III, of Front Royal, Va.; a stepson, Robert M. Wolfe, of Cordova, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

June Doughty
Bradenton
June Doughty, 73, of Bradenton, died June 23, 2001, at Blake Medical Center.
There will be no local service. Services will be in Farmington, Mo. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Bradenton Chapel, is in charge of local arrangements. Burial will be in Hillview Memorial Gardens, Farmington. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Recorder, Sahib Temple, 600 N. Beneva Road, Sarasota, Fla. 34232.
Born in Belleview, Mo., Mrs. Doughty came to Manatee County from Farmington in 1986. She was a retired beauty shop owner. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and a member of Sari Court Losna.
Survivors include her husband, Les; a daughter, Debrah Coleman Pollite of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Randall Coleman of Bradenton; two stepsons, Scott and Terry, both of Lake Orion, Mich.; a sister, Ethelyne Hughes of Sainte Genevieve, Mo.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mary Jeske
Bradenton
Mary "Jean" Jeske, 64, of Bradenton, died June 22, 2001, in Bradenton.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Brown and Sons Funeral Homes, 5624 26th St. W. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, 833 Magellan Drive, Sarasota, with the Rev. Joseph F. Connolly officiating. Burial will be in Skyway Memorial Gardens, Palmetto. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 12502 N. Pine Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33612.
Born in Zanesville, Ohio, Mrs. Jeske came to Manatee County from Miamisburg, Ohio, in 1987. She was a homemaker. She attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church. She served on the board of directors for Kattering and Sycamore Creek Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and was a member of the El Conquistador Country Club in Bradenton.
Survivors include her husband, Frank; two daughters, Deborah Turner of Bradenton, and Regina Spangenthal of Estero; two sons, William, of Naples, and Dean, of Plainfield, Ill.; two sisters, Patricia Relish of Leesburg, and Beth Kahanek of Big Fork, Mont.; and six grandchildren.

Walter F. Riggs
Terra Ceia
Walter F. Riggs, 79, of Terra Ceia, died June 21, 2001, at home.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Palm View First Baptist Church, 415 49th St. E., Palmetto, with the Rev. Larry Pritchett officiating. Ellenton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Palmetto City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Fla., 34238, or to the Kidney Foundation, 2395 Tamiami Trail, No. 5, Port Charlotte, Fla. 33952.
Born in Mt. Airy, N.C., Mr. Riggs came to Manatee County from there 58 years ago. He was a mechanic and worked for the Manatee County School Board for 10 years as a custodian. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge in Palmetto and the Eagles Lodge in Tampa.
Survivors include two daughters, Marlayne Peterson of Terra Ceia, and Melissa Langdon,of Palmetto; three sons, Aubrey "Butch", of Land O'Lakes, Richard, of Douglasville, Ga., and Paul, of Parrish; a brother, Paul, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Thomas R. Sprouse
Bradenton
Thomas R. Sprouse, 93, of Bradenton, died June 24, 2001, in Sarasota Health Care Center.
There will be no service. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Mansion Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Entombment will be private at Mansion Memorial Park.
Born in Bowling Green, Ky., Mr. Sprouse came to Manatee County from Toledo, Ohio, in 1970. He worked in quality control with Libby Owens Ford Glass Co. and retired in 1969. He was Protestant. He was a member of the Yacht Club Eagles, the Chippewa Golf & Country Club and Palmetto Pines Golf Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty, Janet DeLauter and Loretta Yoe, all of Sarasota, and Norma Majchszak of Perrysburg, Ohio; a son, Robert, of Hillman, Mich.; and 13 grandchildren.
Rosalind Soper Stubenberg

Rosalind Soper Stubenberg, 73, of Bradenton, died June 23, 2001, in Sarasota.
Memorial service will be held in Honolulu. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Bradenton Chapel, is in charge of local arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Manatee/Sarasota Counties Chapter, 1230 S. Tuttle Ave., Sarasota, Fla. 34239.
Born in San Diego, Calif., Ms. Stubenberg came to Manatee County from Sarasota in 1995. She was the owner Roz's Restaurant & Gourmet Catering in Sarasota, retiring in 1992.
Survivors include four daughters, Susie Blackmon, of Honolulu, Carol Massey and Patricia Parisian, both of Bradenton, and Mary Hager of Gadsden, Ala.; a son, Chris, of Bradenton; a brother, Thomas, of Honolulu; and eight grandchildren.

Jack Chasty

Jack Chasty, 68, of Bradenton, died June 7, 2001, in Hospice House of Bradenton.
Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Traditional Roman Catholic Church, 6323 14th St. W. Covell Cremation and Funeral Center is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Chasty came to Manatee County from New York City in 1997. He was a retired chef from the Edward R. Lewis Restaurant in New York City. He was Roman Catholic.
Survivors include his companion, Albert Edward Parr; and four sisters, Ivy Pawlick and Joan Jervis, both of Hamilton, Rene Walker of Stonecreek, Ontario, and Geniev Heinz of Port Charlotte.

G. Douglas Clarke
Ellenton
G.Douglas Clarke, 50, of Ellenton, died June 22, 2001, in Manatee Memorial Hospital.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kicliter Funeral Home Chapel, 517 Eighth Ave. W., Palmetto, with the Rev. Lee Miller officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Fla. 34238.
Born in Bel Air, Md., Mr. Clarke came to Manatee County from Gloucester, Mass., this month in June 2001 -->. He was an actor. He was Presbyterian.
Survivors include his wife, Stacie; a daughter, Bessie, of Gloucester; his parents, Robert and Dolores, of Ellenton; a sister, Denise Thomas of Edgewood, Md.; and a brother, Bland, of Bel Air.

Joann E. Curtis
Bradenton
Joann E. Curtis, 73, of Bradenton, died June 25, 2001, in Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-noon Wednesday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 912 53rd Ave. W. Service will be noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Braden River Cemetery.
Born in Charleston, W.Va., Mrs. Curtis came to Manatee County from Chesterville, Ohio, 19 years ago. She was retired from Alcan Window Co., and she worked at Wal-Mart. She was Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Baxter of Bradenton, and Elaine Miller of Sarasota; three sons, Johnny and Lloyd, both of Ashford, Ala., and Sammy, of Sarasota; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Rufus W. Gore Jr.

Rufus W. Gore Jr., 75, of Sarasota (Manatee County), died June 23, 2001, at home.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today in the Worship Center at Southside Baptist Church, 1604 17th St. W. Service will be 7 p.m. today at the church, with the Rev. J. Sterling Forrester officiating and military honors conducted by the honor guard from the Fort Stewart U.S. Army Base, Fort Stewart, Ga. Committal service will be held privately at Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines. Shannon Funeral Home, Town Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Fla. 34238.
Born in Ocala, Mr. Gore came to Manatee County from Maryland 12 years ago. He was the former director of donor services at the Sarasota Community Blood Bank for five years, he was an immunologist at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research working for the U.S. Army and the Federal Civil Service for more than 20 years, and he was one of the researchers who worked on the malaria vaccine project. He was a retired master sergeant from the U.S. Army after serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Survivors include his wife, Tomiko; four daughters, Nancy Johnson of Seabrook, Md., T. Aline, of Irvine, Calif., Carol Wingfield of Washington, D.C., and Margaret Johnson of Chevy Chase, Md.; three sons, Rufus W. IV, of Fullerton, Calif., Daniel, of Germantown, Md., and Kenneth, of Palm Desert, Calif.; two sisters, Minnie Lee Holmes of Fort Lauderdale, and Lillie Mae Donald of Ocala; and 13 grandchildren.
