Born in Grand Rapids, Mrs. Alflen came to Manatee County from Wayland in 1986. She was a retired bookkeeper for the family business and she was a homemaker. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul The Apostles Catholic Church. She was a member of the Women's International Bowling Congress, and the Bradenton Sewing Guild, and she was active in school organizations in Wayland.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon Joseph; two daughters, Mary Jo Connor of Palmetto, and Mary Therese Tanner of Dorr, Mich.; two sons, Stephen Paul, of Hastings, Mich., and Gregory Vernon, of Wayland; seven sisters, Rose Marie Saladin of Pentwater, Mich., Jacqueline Trubiroha of Wayland, Gertrude Corbett, Diana Walker, Suzanne Embree and Frances Walker, all of Grand Rapids, and Madeline Meinke of Northern Michigan; two brothers, Roger C. Walker of Hopkins, Mich., and John Walker of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

C. Norman Beall, 85, of Bradenton, died Dec. 18, 2001, in Freedom Village Nursing Center in Bradenton.

Born in Palmetto, Mr. Beall came to Manatee County from Moultrie, Ga., in 1960. He was a retired civil service employee from Hawthorne School of Aeronautics and manager of Beall's Department Stores, where he was a buyer of men's and boy's clothing. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bradenton, where he served as a deacon. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and a charter member of the Exchange Clubs of America.
Survivors include a son, Carlton N., of Royal Palm Beach; and three grandchildren.

Henry S. Covington Jr., 80, of Bradenton, died Dec. 20, 2001, in Manor Care Health Services of Sarasota.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Bradenton Funeral Home, 5827 14th St. W. Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ronald A. Hazlett officiating. Burial will be in Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto. Born in Danville, Va., Mr. Covington came to Manatee County from Sarasota in 1983. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Sarasota. He attended Bayshore Baptist Church. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He served in the 3rd Infantry in the African and Mediterranean Theaters. He served during the invasion of Italy and Sicily, and in Northern Italy. He was a member of the Elks, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion, all in Sarasota.
Survivors include two daughters, Jerry L. Cockerham of Julian, N.C., and Sandra C. Sweeney of Bradenton; a son, Henry S. "Jack" III, of Sarasota; a sister, Peggy Foushee of Aberdeen, N.C.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Eleanor Rosemond Bailey Ferguson, 85, of Sarasota (Manatee County), died Dec. 16, 2001, in the Doctors Hospital of Sarasota.
