William "Bill" Alan Hale, 47, of Palmetto, died Sept. 3, 2001, at home.
There will be no service. Ellenton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Quebec, Mr. Hale came to Manatee County from Ohio 25 years ago. He was employed at Bill's Discount Furniture in Bradenton for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Judith "Judy"; a daughter, Harmony Brisley of Palmetto; a son, Edward John, of Palmetto; and a grandchild.

Kurt Douglas Hosier, 63, of Bradenton, died July 27, 2001.

Louis Maldonado, 68, of Bradenton, died Sept. 3, 2001, in Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Maldonado came to Manatee County from Orlando four years ago. He attended Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Betsy; a daughter, Cynthia Santiago of Bradenton; two sons, Luis, of Tampa, and Michael, of Bronx; a sister, Gladys Chavez of Moreno Valley, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Samuel Hudson Miller, 84, of Bradenton, died Aug. 31, 2001, in Blake Medical Center.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 5115 44th Ave. W., with the Rev. Ed Weinrich officiating. Born in Carlisle, Ind., Mr. Miller came to Manatee County from Stamford, Conn., in 1984. He was a retired captain and a chief pilot from Pan American World Airways. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Kirby Stewart Post No. 24 in Bradenton, the Golden Eagle in the Wings Club of New York, City; the Sky Club of New York City; the Pan AM Historical Foundation of Miami and the Indiana University Distinguished Alumni Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Kristen L. Bartlett of Easton, Conn.; a son, Brett H., of San Francisco; a sister, Mary E. Broome of Longview, Texas; a brother, Max A., of Sullivan, Ind.; and three grandchildren.
Frederick "Freddy" Alexander Moniz

Frederick "Freddy" Alexander Moniz, 86, of Ellenton, died Aug. 31, 2001, in Mariner Health of Palmetto.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Moniz came to Manatee County from South Windsor, Conn., in 1978. He was the head fruit and produce buyer for First National Stores in the New England area for 22 years and for the Connecticut Celery Co. in Hartford, Conn., for 10 years. He was a member of Forest Hills Lodge Free and Accepted Masons No. 946 for 45 years, and the Malverne, N.Y., Volunteer Fire Department. He became fire chief of the Malverne Volunteer Fire Department in 1958.
Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Moniz Rose of Manchester, Conn., and Cynthia, of Brewster, Mass.; a son, Edward, of South Windsor, Conn.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Robert M. Neill

Robert M. Neill, 77, of Marion, Ohio, and winter resident of Bradenton, died Sept. 1, 2001, in Marion General Hospital.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Boyd Funeral Home, 122 W. Columbia St., in Marion. Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brian Green officiating. Burial will be Thursday in Green Camp Cemetery in Green Camp, Ohio, with a military service conducted by the Marion County United Veterans Council. Born in Union County, Ohio, Mr. Neill was a winter resident of Manatee County. He retired in 1981 after 36 years of service from the Defense Construction Supply Corporation in Columbus, Ohio, where he was also a firefighter for 20 years. He was a member of the Prospect Street United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of AARP; N.A.R.F.E. No. 329; Masonic Lodge No. 653; and Moose Lodge No. 889.
Survivors include his wife, Floreine; a daughter, Felicia Dorsey of Houston; two sons, Robert D., of Marion, and Vincent Todd, of Columbus; a stepson, David Schuler of Marion; a sister, Mary Sines of Dunkirk, Ind., and Bradenton; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Hortense M. Phillips, 100, of Sarasota, formerly of Bradenton, died Sept. 3, 2001, in Emerald Oaks Nursing Home in Bradenton.

Born in Sweden, Mrs. Phillips came to Manatee County from Sarasota in 1986. She was a homemaker. She was Lutheran.
Survivors include two daughters, Dolores P. Rustice of West Islip, N.Y., and Patricia P. Markman of Sarasota; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Fred R. Brown, 87, of Palmetto, died Aug. 20, 2001, in Manatee Memorial Hospital.
Service will be 11 a.m. today at Sims-Woodie Mortuary, 2409 Second Ave. E., in Palmetto.
Born in Beaufort, S.C., Mr. Brown came to Manatee County from Arcadia in 1936. He was a retired forklift driver from a fruit company. He was Pentecostal.
Survivors include his friend, Mable Lee White of Palmetto.
Allegrie Friessner
Bradenton
Allegrie Friessner, 86, of Bradenton, died Aug. 25, 2001, in Blake Medical Center.
There will be no service. The Neptune Society, Palm Harbor, is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Chicago, Mrs. Friessner came to Manatee County from Park Forrest, Ill., in 1980. She was a supervisor for Spiegel Mail House for 40 years and a volunteer at Blake Medical Center. She was a member of Temple Beth-El in Bradenton, and a past member of the Sephardic Congregation in Evanston, Ill.
Survivors include two brothers, Albert Marcado and Sol Marcado, both of Bradenton.
