Marjorie was a retired Lieutenant Colonel Army nurse, serving in Germany, Korea and an extended term in Vietnam.

Raymond E. Lovely, 82, of Bradenton, Florida, died on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Blake Medical Center, of heart disease.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on August 8, 1921, to parents, Kennie and Helen (Calhoun) Lovely.
Mourning his death is his wife, Jeanette D. (Shelby) Lovely, of Bradenton; his sister, Marilyn Darrell; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Agoston Hewitt, Carole Robinson, and Pat (Bill) Anthony, all of Middletown, Ohio. He also leaves behind five nieces, seven nephews; 30 great-nieces and nephews; a godson, Kevin C. Lawson, of Key Port, Washington; and his brother, Timothy Lawson, of Pasadena, Calif.
Carrying out her husband's wishes, along with hers, they wish to acknowledge with utmost sincerity, their deep appreciation for a long time friendship of special people, Audrey Apking, of Springfield, Ohio; Bernice (Bee) Meyer and Betty L. Henderson, both of Middletown, Ohio; and Frank and Jane Lawson, of Bradenton, Fla. Mrs. Lovely wishes to extend special thanks to Linda Miller, ICU, at Blake Medical Center, and Drs. Calabria, Sammour, Waggoner, and Landry for their excellent care.

Joyce Gertrude Smith, 78, of Bradenton, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Manatee Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Smith came to Manatee County from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1983. She worked as a draftsman during World War II for the Alcoa Aluminum Company, in Cleveland; she was also the former co-owner of Custom Tops in Garfield, Ohio, for over 10 years. Locally she was the owner of Mohr Apartments, located in the Village of the Arts.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradenton, and was formerly a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she served on the Ladies Guild and was a Stephen's Minister. Ms. Smith also volunteered at Manatee Memorial Hospital as a Pink Lady, worked as a volunteer with the Crisis Line and was a children's advocate serving as a Guardian Ad Litem, for the Manatee County court system for seven years.
Her loved ones include two daughters, Joy Courtney, formerly of Holmes Beach, now of Palmetto, and Patricia A. Pesecky, of Macedonia, Ohio; a son, Donald L. Smith of Mesa, Arizona; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m., at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th Street West, Bradenton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m., on Saturday, in the Chapel at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 3100 26th Street West, Bradenton. Julia Carlburg Steffens, 87 of Bradenton, died June 13, 2004, at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
Memorial Service will be Friday, June 18, 2004, 10 a.m., at Christ Episcopal Church, 4030 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, Fla. 34209. Inurnment will be Saturday, June 19, 2004, 3 p.m., at All Saints Cemetery in Jensen Beach, Fla. Memorial donations may be made to the Church or Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Fl. 34238.
Born in Selina, Kansas, February 8, 1917, she moved to Bradenton in 1989 from Stuart, Fla. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where she was involved in the Daughters of The Kings, St. Margets Society and a Budget Box volunteer. She was also a volunteer at Blake Medical Center and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Steffens is the widow of Henry Richard Steffens, Executive for the Ford Motor Company and Educator in the North Carolina School System. She's the daughter of the late Bror Justice Carlburg, co-developer of Palm Beach and his wife Irene Valette of Salina, Kansas. Her sister Francis Carlburg King of Boca Raton, Florida was a noted artist and advocate for the deaf.
Julia and Bill married before World War II. She accepted a position with North Carolina Power Company as credit manager. Neither of them could have ever known that the Geneva Convention would redirect his chemical warfare battalion to be part of the first wave to land on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. After Bill returned they settled into civilian life to raise their children.
She is survived by her sons, Bror (Eileen) of Sarasota, Fla., and Timothy William of Brazil, stepgrandchild Duane Kenneth (Krystal) Phillips.
