Katherine McMahon, 87, of Bradenton, died Sept. 30, 2003, in Heritage Park Nursing Home in Bradenton.
A graveside service will be 9 a.m. Friday at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave. E., with the Kirby Stewart Post 24 Honor Guard. Born in Malden, Mass., Ms. McMahon came to Manatee County from Wantagh, N.Y., in 1985. She was a retired registered nurse. She served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II and was a captain in the U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps during the Korean War. She was a member of Kirby Stewart Post 24 and volunteered with Red Cross and a respite program.
Survivors include two sisters, Annette P. Shames of Longboat Key and Eunice R. Brutin of Bradenton; a brother, Lewis S. Harris of Albuquerque, N.M.
Betty Schonewald, Bradenton
Betty Schonewald, 67, of Bradenton, died at home.
Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Church of the Trinity, 7225 Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, with the Rev. Nancy Wilson officiating. Born in New Jersey, Ms. Schonewald came to Manatee County many years ago. She was a retired mental health therapist.

Henry Snipes Sr. of Bradenton, died Sept. 30, 2003, in Manatee Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at Chandler's Funeral Chapel, 1425 Dr. M.L. King Jr. Way, Sarasota. Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Jesus Christ Prayer Band Church, with Overseer Mildred Snipes. Burial will be in Skyway Memorial Gardens, Palmetto.
Born in Brundidge, Ala., Mr. Snipes came from there to Manatee County 43 years ago. He was a mechanic. He was Baptist.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Williams of Palmetto, and Maurice, and Henry Jr., both of Bradenton; sisters and brothers include Annie Williams of Palmetto, Dozella Norward of Los Angeles, Dorothy Freeman and Marlene Smith, both of Atlanta, Carrie Smith of Montgomery, Ala., Shirley, of Brundidge, Patricia Brown and Shelmadiane Sampson of Moore Haven, A.D., of Albany, N.Y., Hubert, of Fort Meade, Larry Haynes of Fort Lauderdale, Lee, and Greffrey Haynes, both of Sarasota; his mother, Hattie, of Brundidge; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Edward Joseph Yurek, Bradenton
Edward Joseph Yurek, 82, of Bradenton, died Sept. 29, 2003, in Blake Medical Center.
A Masonic service, followed by a memorial service, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 5115 Cortez Road, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Albury officiating. Born in Baltimore, Mr. Yurek came from there to Manatee County 15 years ago. He was a circulation manager for the Baltimore News American. He attended Emmanuel United Methodist Church. He was an associate member of Sahib Shrine Center, Sarasota, the Anna Maria Hi-12 Club and Bradenton Hi-12 Club (part of the Shrine), and was past president of the President's Club of the Gulf Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ida; a daughter, Jeanne M. Escue of Tampa; four sisters, Beatrice Ramage, Clara Day, Rita Dekowski and Joan Tankersley, all of Baltimore; a brother, Tom, of Baltimore: three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Aline Bertha Ard, 72, of Bradenton, died Sept. 26, 2003, in Blake Medical Center.

Born in Whitley City, Ky., Ms. Ard came to Manatee County from Tampa in 1975. She was a sales clerk for the Eckerd Corp. She attended First Baptist Church of Bradenton.

Dorothy Elizabeth Day, 81, of Bradenton, died Sept. 27, 2003, at home.

Born in Allenhurst, N.J., Mrs. Day came to Manatee County from Belmar, N.J., in 1986. She retired as a teacher from Manasquan Elementary School in Manasquan, N.J., after 20 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church. She was former vice president of the board of directors of Golf Lakes Mobile Estates.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas; three daughters, Eileen Day Cytryn of Fairfax, Va., Kathleen, of Neptune, N.J., and Christy Blanchard of Seattle; three sons, James, of Old Forge, N.Y., Thomas M. IV, of Holmes Beach, and Matthew, of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Alan W. Dimond, 55, of Bradenton, died Sept. 23, 2003, in Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Mr. Dimond came to Manatee County from Oil City, Pa., in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart.

John R. Furrow, 78, of Bradenton, died Sept. 30, 2003, in Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Findlay, Ohio, Mr. Furrow came to Manatee County from there in 1959. He retired from Masonry Unlimited of Sarasota. He was a member of the Church of God. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Senior Friendship Center.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Jackee Wills of Saginaw, Mich.; three sons, David Bibler of Bostic, N.C., Dan Bibler of Webster and Jon Bibler of Oneco; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Elsa G. Grossmann, 92, of St. Petersburg, formerly of Manatee County, died Sept. 26, 2003, in St. Petersburg.

Born in Germany, Mrs. Grossmann came to Manatee County from Philadelphia in 1974. She was a homemaker, a volunteer with Bible Alliance and a Bible study teacher for many years. She attended Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Bieling of Holmes Beach and Hiawassee, Ga., and Dori Allibon of Sun City Center; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

William Kay Hensley, 92, of Palmetto, died Sept. 29, 2003, at home.

Born in Corbin, Ky., Mr. Hensley came to Manatee County from Venice in 2001. He retired in 1960 from General Electric after working there as a manager for 42½ years. He was Baptist. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a master Mason.

Born in Adel, Ga., Mrs. Lovett came to Manatee County from Moultrie, Ga., in 1960. She retired from the Industrial Glass Division at Tropicana after 27 years. She was a member of Samoset First Baptist Church for 45 years.
Survivors include her husband, Massey N.; four daughters, Janet K. Kaiser and Debbie A. Amerson, both of Bradenton, Tricia S. Hook of Pensacola and Denise F. Krudop of Andalusia, Ala.; three sons, Tommy C., of Palmetto, Steve M.
