Elsie J. Gilliland, 92, of Bradenton, died Dec. 2, 2002, in Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Detroit, Mrs. Gilliland came to Manatee County in 1951. She and her late husband, Stanton, operated the Braden Castle store until 1960. She belonged to New Hope Tabernacle.
Survivors include two daughters, Mina Dittman of Blairsville, Ga., and Gloria Zavish of Hollywood; a son, Donald J., of Sarasota; three brothers, Richard Mittelstadt, Fred Mittelstadt and Emil Mittelstadt; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Rodney Knight, Ellenton
Rodney "Rod" Knight, 86, of Ellenton, died Dec. 5, 2002, in Hospice House of Palmetto.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Mansion Chapel, 1400 36th Ave. E., Ellenton with the Rev. Robert Green officiating. Burial will be at Mansion Memorial Park in Ellenton. Born in Dexter, Mo., Mr. Knight came to Manatee County from the Bronx, N.Y., in 1974. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired as a postal worker after 25 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Brasina "Betty;" two daughters, Carole Kominsky of Hillsborough, N.J., and Susan Christina, of Spokane, Wash.; seven sisters, Vernetta Cornwell of Salem, Ore., Uretta Hale of Love Park, Ill., Ronnie Jean Hurley of Glenwood, Iowa, Castella House of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Johnnie Presson of Hazel Park, Mich., Novie Taylor of East Prairie, Mo., and Nadine Evans of Hartford, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Scott O. Lowe, 48, of Enfield, Conn., and formerly of Bradenton, died Dec. 4, 2002, in Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford, Conn.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Congregational Church of Somersville, 22 Maple St., Somersville, Conn., with the Rev. Gretchen Stanland officiating. Mr. Lowe was born in Bradenton. He spent 17 years with E-Z Go Textron before he became co-owner of Golf Car Protection LLC. He belonged to the Connecticut Association of Golf Course Superintendents, the Central Connecticut Soccer Officials Association and he was a USSF certified soccer official.
Survivors include his wife, Joann; two daughters, Jennifer, of Enfield, and Trista LaCross of Bradenton; and his sister, Sandra Pearce of Bradenton.
John Francis Lucas, Venice
John Francis Lucas, 81, of Venice and formerly of Manatee County, died Dec. 5, 2002, in Venice.

Born in Marissa, Ill., Mr. Lucas came to Manatee County from Bexley, Ohio, in 1981. He owned and operated Lucas Appliance and T.V. Centers. He belonged to Christ United Methodist Church of Venice. He was a member of the United States Tennis Association and past member of the Plantation Tennis Club.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Mary C. Ralph of Peoria, Ill., and Deborah Flowers of Delaware, Ohio; his son, Craig Lucas of Albuquerque, N.M.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Richmond R. Martineau, Ellenton
Richmond R. Martineau, 64, of Ellenton, died Dec. 5, 2002, at home.

Born in Woonsocket, R.I., Mr. Martineau came to Manatee County from North Smithfield, R.I., 13 years ago. He served in the military. He retired as police chief with the North Smithfield Police Department.
Survivors include his wife, E. Jeanne; two daughters, Monique Lucille Martineau Clay of Robinsville, N.C., and Lynne Marie Martineau Champagne of Bedford, N.H.; and five grandchildren.

Margaret "Peggy" Sorenson, 92, of Bradenton, died Dec. 6, 2002, at home.

Born in Uddingston, Scotland, Mrs. Sorenson came to Manatee County from Kalamazoo in the 1980s. She retired as a teacher and taught for 30 years in the Elkhart, Ind., and Kalamazoo public schools. She belonged to the Palma Sola Presbyterian Church in Bradenton.
Survivors include a son, John, of Alto, Mich.; two sisters, Anne McAllister and Florence J. Lane, both of Bradenton; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Easby came to Manatee County many years ago. He retired from retail sales.

Born in Detroit, Mrs. Rogers came to Manatee County from Marquette, Mich., in 1966, then moved to Maryland in 1997. She was a homemaker. She attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church in Sarasota. She was a life member of Disabled American Veterans Post No. 2488 of Palmetto and a life member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary No. 18 of Bradenton.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda I. Vance of Clarksburg; a son, Michael W., of New Orleans; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Etta Parrish, 88, of Parrish, died Dec. 6, 2002, in Bradenton.
