James Laine, Snellville, Ga.
James Laine, 85, of Snellville, Ga., and formerly of Bradenton, died Oct. 5, 2002.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Laine formerly lived in Bradenton. He was the real estate director for the Gulf Oil Corporation, where he worked for 36 years, retiring in 1982. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and was a B-17 bombardier in the 8th Air Force. His plane was shot down over Germany, and he was a prisoner of war for two years. He was a Methodist, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Sahib Temple in Sarasota.
Survivors include a son, Jim, of Snellville; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Roy Donald Bryant, Sarasota, (Manatee County)
Roy Donald Bryant, 76, of Sarasota (Manatee County), died Oct. 2, 2002, in Blake Medical Center.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Brown & Sons Funeral Home, 5624 26th St. W. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor A.L. Abney officiating. Burial will be in Bradenton. Born in Aitch, Pa., Mr. Bryant came to Manatee County from Sarasota County in 1973. He was a security guard at Ringling Museum from 1991-2002. He was a member of First Church of God. He was a member of Man to Man and did Christian missionary work in California, Belize and eastern Europe.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille H.; three sons, Daniel C., of Marietta, Ohio, Mark D., of Sarasota, and Stephen C., of Ball Ground, Ga.; a sister, Alice Lewis of Dale City, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
Albert Evans, Bradenton
Albert "Bud" Evans, 79, of Bradenton, died Oct. 3, 2002, in Mariner Health of Palmetto.
There will be no visitation or service. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Mansion Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Allentown, Pa., Mr. Evans came to Manatee County from there in 1972. He was the owner of Evans Pest Control. He was Protestant. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II in the South Pacific.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve M.; and a sister, Wilhelmina Adamson of Bradenton.
Mary Agnes Miller, Bradenton
Mary Agnes Miller, 93, of Bradenton, died Oct. 1, 2002, in The Shores.
There will be no local visitation. Services will be in Fort Mitchell, Ky. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Mitchell. Brown & Sons Funeral Home, 43rd Street Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Covington, Ky., Mrs. Miller came to Manatee County from Kokomo, Ind., in 1971. She was the co-owner of Miller-Wright Furniture Store in Kokomo.
Survivors include four nieces, Jean Zek of Crescent Springs, Ky., June Valz of Florence, Ky., Annetta Schuler of Fort Wright, Ky., and Betty Briggs of Defiance, Ohio.
Slayton Underhill, Bradenton
Slayton Underhill, 89, of Bradenton, died Oct. 2, 2002, in Blake Medical Center.

Born in St. David, Pa., Mr. Underhill came to Manatee County from Wilmington, N.Y., in 1968. He was an illustrator for Life Magazine, Saturday Evening Post and Cornet.

Roland Charles, Van Lare, Bradenton
Roland Charles Van Lare, 85, of Bradenton, died Oct. 3, 2002, in Sunbridge Care & Rehab Center.

Born in Williamson, N.Y., Mr. Van Lare came to Manatee County from East Williamson, N.Y., in 1962. He was a retired truck driver and a former night manager for a hotel in Bradenton. He was Baptist. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his companion, Helen Proctor; two sons, Barry, of Reston, Va., and David, of Marion, N.Y.; a sister, Veronica Orbacker of Bradenton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Margaret L. Weller, Palmetto
Margaret L. Weller, 90, of Palmetto, died Sept. 30, 2002, in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Visitation and graveside service were Friday in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery in Michigan, with the Rev. Glenn Huisinga officiating. Langeland Family Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, in Kalamazoo, Mich., is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Hospice of Ann Arbor, Mich. or to the charity of one's choice.
Born in Kalamazoo, Mrs. Weller came to Manatee County from there in 1975. She worked at Allen Electric for 32 years before retiring. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Mason of Brooklyn, Mich.; a son, James, of Battle Creek; a sister, Wenona VanderVeen of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

John A. Beursken Sr., 92, of Bradenton, died Sept. 25, 2002, at home.

Born in Didam, Holland, Mr. Beursken came to Manatee County from Wakeman, Ohio, in 1988. He was an electrician. He was Roman Catholic. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Dads Club in Wakeman.
Survivors include two daughters, Hermina Von Kaenel of Elyria, Ohio, and Elizabeth Eppler of California; three sons, Bill, of Bradenton, James, of California, and John Jr., of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Walter Brown, Palmetto
Walter Brown, 71, of Palmetto, died Sept. 28, 2002, at home.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1701 First Ave. E., Palmetto. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. T.J. Spikes officiating. Burial with military honors will be 11 a.m. Monday at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Westside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Marco, Ga., Mr. Brown came to Manatee County from Georgia in 1964. He was a construction worker. He was Baptist. He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Dora; two daughters, Cynthia Love and Bonnie Ducre, both of Bradenton; three sons, Johnny West of Bradenton, Roosevelt West of Tampa, and Willie Simmons of Palmetto; three sisters, Alice Lewis of Statesboro, Ga., Mamie Lee of Augusta, Ga., and Gussie Mary Lane of New York; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
