John M. Hood, 88, of Bradenton, died Oct. 2, 2002, in Westminster Asbury Towers in Bradenton.
Visitation will be 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 603 11th St. W. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor R.A. Nussel officiating. Burial will be in Fogartyville Cemetery in Bradenton. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manatee Avenue Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Born in Tampa, Mr. Hood came to Manatee County from St. Petersburg in 1954. He was the president and co-owner of Hood's Dairy. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Rotary, active in local and national Cattleman's Association, director of Sunnyland Council of the Boy Scouts, active with the 4H & Future Farmers of America, and the former director of the Manatee County Fair.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Waring of Madison, and Bonnie Best of Bradenton; a son, Gordon, of Florida; a foster son, Tremain Macrae of Bradenton; three sisters, Emily Callahan of Crystal River, and Mabel Dorman and Sara Chapman, both of St. Petersburg; three brothers, Emmett M. Jr., of St. Petersburg, Dr. Douglas W., of Sarasota, and Lester J., of Crystal River; 23 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
John Francis Hunt, Bradenton
John Francis Hunt, 78, of Bradenton, died Oct. 2, 2002, at home.
There will be no service. Bradenton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Cleveland, Mr. Hunt came to Manatee County from St. Clair Shores, Mich., in 1987. He was a manager at Palmer Distributors in St. Clair Shores for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Suncoast Camera Club in Bradenton.
Survivors include three daughters, Marcia Barlow of Anna Maria Island, Janice Hunt Kost of Livonia, Mich., and Denise Dell of Allen Park, Mich.; a sister, Eileen Sulewski of St. Clair Shores; a brother, Frank, of Ferndale, Mich.; and nine grandchildren.
Kathleen Priscilla, Kekich, Ellenton
Kathleen Priscilla Kekich, 87, of Ellenton, died Sept. 27, 2002, in Reba's House in Parrish.
Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 504 26th St. W., Palmetto. Burial will be in St. Clements Cemetery in Navarre, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Reba's House, 11655 U.S. Hwy. 301 N., Parrish, Fla. 34219.
Born in Beach City, Ohio, Mrs. Kekich came to Manatee County from Ecorse, Mich., in 1964. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Palmetto. She was a member of Tidevue Civic Association in Ellenton.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Hollenbeck and Linda, both of Ellenton; a son, Terrance, of Northville, Mich.; two sisters, Rosemary Garmhausen of Navarre, and Betty Toomey of Ellenton; two brothers, James Hammel of Navarre, and William Hammel of Massillon, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Matthew R. Thompson, Bradenton
Matthew R. "Matt" Thompson, 27, of Bradenton, died Oct. 1, 2002, in a car accident.
Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home, 135 N. Lime Ave., Sarasota. Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Winter officiating. Burial will be private.
Born in Sarasota, Mr. Thompson was a lifelong resident of Manatee County. He worked in production at a local printing company in Bradenton. He was Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Stacey L.; a daughter, Alexus R., of Bradenton; a sister, Marie, of Palmetto; a stepsister, Jamie Cataldo of Tarpon Springs; a brother, Mike, of Palmetto; a stepbrother, A.J. Born in Flanagan, Ill., Mr. Ulrich came to Manatee County from Eureka, Ill., in 1982. He was a supervisor at Ulrich Manufacturing in Roanoke, Ill. He was a member of Palma Sola Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; two daughters, Pat Schertz of Brandon, and Jan Mauck of Sarasota; a sister, Esther Eastman of Eureka; and two grandchildren.

Born in Taylor, Pa., Ms. Worthington came to Manatee County from Petersburg, Va., in 1982. She was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars. She was Protestant. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star in Callicoon, N.Y.

Bernie "Mike" Coakley, 69, of Bradenton, died Sept. 29, 2002, in Tampa General Hospital.

Born in Norfolk, Va., Mr. Coakley came to Manatee County from there in 1999. He was a retired first class radioman for the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was retired from civil service. He was a past master of NORVIEW Masonic Lodge 113 in Norfolk, and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Norfolk.

Born in Beverly, Mass., Mr. Davis came to Manatee County from Wenham, Mass., in 1976. He was a retired foreman for the United Shoe Machinery Company in Beverly. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; a daughter, Constance Bettencourt of Bradenton; two sons, Ronald, of Peabody, Mass., and Donald, of Hubbardston, Mass.; a stepson, Wayne Sylvanowicz of Nashua, N.H.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Born in Cleveland, Miss Fix came to Manatee County from Salamanca, N.Y., in 1985. She was a missionary to New York state for the Bible Club Movement. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Born in Derby, Conn., Mrs. Gooley came to Manatee County from Shelton, Conn., in 1971. She was a retired secretary. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Willie Dee Holcomb, 72, of Boaz, Ala., and formerly of Bradenton, died Sept. 20, 2002, in Marshall County, Ala.
Service was at a previous date, with the Rev. Bobby Walden, brother of the deceased, officiating. Burial was in the old Fairview Cemetery in Cochran's Corners. Adams Funeral Home, Albertville, Ala., was in charge of arrangements.
Born in Albertville, Mr. Holcomb was a former resident of Manatee County. He was a retired truck driver. He was Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Rick and James, both of Bradenton; four sisters, Mary Barker and Dottie Johnson, both of Florida, and Julia Beaird and Evell Slappey, both of Albertville; two brothers, Ed, of North Carolina, and the Rev. Bobby Walden of Albertville; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Hunter M. Jones, 78, of Sarasota and formerly of Bradenton, died Sept. 30, 2002.

Born in Bradenton, Mr. Jones was a former resident of Manatee County. He retired as the owner of Colonial Bakery in Sarasota. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, Minn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Commodore Sarasota Outboard Club, and The Mummers in Sarasota. He volunteered as a Big Brother in Sarasota.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy, of Bradenton; a son, Tom, of Largo; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
