James V. Edmundson, 87, of Longboat Key, died June 19, 2001, at home.

Born in Hollywood, Calif., Lt. General James V. Edmundson came to Manatee County from McDill Air Force Base, Tampa, in 1973. He served as a general in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and retired after 36 years of service. He was awarded the Army and Air Force designs of the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross with six oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Purple Heart.
Upon retirement, General Edmundson served as vice mayor and mayor on the Longboat Key Town Commission for six years; he served as chairman on the Planning and Zoning Board for three years and on the Ethics Committee for two years; he served as vice president of the Longboat Key Historical Society; he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Pelican Man's Bird Sanctuary; and the American Revolution, Sarasota Chapter; he was past president and special advisor to the president of the Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key; past president of the Mayflower Society, Sarasota Chapter; past vice governor of the Military Order of World Wars; and past commander and recipient of the Patrick Henry Award for Patriotic Achievement. He was awarded the Winter Warrior Award for Outstanding Service in Retirement by the Retired Officer's Club of Sarasota; and the first Lifetime Achievement Award by the city of Longboat Key.
Survivors include a daughter, Celia, of Longboat Key; a son, Edwin J., of St. Cloud; a brother, Al, of California; and two grandchildren.

Betty Leonora Lavin, 77, of Ellenton, died June 18, 2001, in Palmetto Guest Home.

Born in Peoria, Ill., Mrs. Lavin came to Manatee County from there in 1963. She was a beautician. She was Methodist.
Survivors include her husband, Albert S.; three sons, A.J., of Lake City, Michael J., of Peoria, and Christopher C., of East Peoria; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

June 17, 2001, at home.

Born in Woonsocket, R.I., Mrs. Leblanc came to Manatee County from Nashua, N.H., in 1981. She was a retired clerical secretary. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles Catholic Church. She was a former member of the Palma Sola Golf Club; and a member of the Sea Breeze Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Denise, of Bradenton; three sons, Alphonse A., of Shrewsbury, Mass., Ronald E., of Cape Cod, Mass., and Robert L., of Bradenton; five sisters; a brother; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Carol A. Lucier, 61, of Ellenton, died June 18, 2001, in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, Mass.

Born in Worcester, Mrs. Lucier was a resident of Manatee County for 38 years. She was a member of St. Francis Cabrini Church in Parrish, and a former member of St. Pius X Church.
Survivors include her husband, Edward H.; three daughters, Lynn A. Slapik of Collingswood, N.J., and Nancy C. Sanko and Karen M. Bercume, both of Leicester; and six grandchildren.
Arthur D. O'Rourke

Arthur D. O'Rourke, 81, of Sarasota, formerly of Bradenton, died June 18, 2001, at home.

Born in Louisville, Ky., Mr. O'Rourke came to Manatee County from Cincinnati in 1974. He was an assessor for the county in Cincinnati, and he was employed at the Adult Recreation Hall in Sarasota County. He served as a court reporter in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. He was a member of the Moose; and the Elks.
Survivors include his companion, Penny Ray of Sarasota.

Mary D. Stern, 86, of Bradenton, died June 16, 2001, in Blake Medical Center.

Born in Nesquehoning, Pa., Mrs. Stern came to Manatee County from Ocala in 1984. She was a secretary.

Born in New Haven, Conn., Mrs. Barna came to Manatee County from Jackson Heights, N.Y., in 1968. She was a retired secretary from Allied Signal Corporation. She was Presbyterian.

Susie Mae Dixon, 77, of Palmetto, died June 13, 2001, in Mariner Health of Palmetto.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Westside Funeral Home, 704 11th St. W., Palmetto. Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at House of God Church, Keith Dominion Inc., 123 17th St. E., Palmetto, with Elder Theodore Tillis officiating. Burial will be in Skyway Memorial Gardens, Palmetto.
Mrs. Dixon was born in Ellenton. She was a homemaker. She was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include a son, Eddie Lee, of Palmetto; five sisters, Willie Kelly of Palmetto, Ada Reason and Cora Thorpe, both of Freehold, N.J., Pearlene Snell of Tampa, and Rosa Simmons of Bradenton; two sons, Theophus Simmons of Tallahassee, and Daniels Simmons of Hawaii; and three grandchildren.
