Karen Dianne Rogers
Karen Dianne Rogers, age 57, of Okeechobee, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. She had been a resident of Okeechobee for 30 years and was a member of Word of Life Fellowship Church.
Survivors include: three sons, Gary Jasek of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Kevin Rogers and Kendall Rogers, both of Okeechobee; four grandchildren; and one brother.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 10 until 11 a.m.
Funeral service will follow visitation at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Davis, Abundant Blessings Assembly of God Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Herbert Lee Shaffer, Sr.
Herbert Lee Shaffer, Sr., age 63, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at his residence in Okeechobee. Mr. Shaffer was born May 9, 1937 in Bristol, Va. He was a Milker on a Dairy farm.
He was preceded in his death by his wife, Eleanor Shaffer and daughter,Vickie Shaffer.
Survivors include: son, Herbert L. Shaffer, Jr. of Okeechobee, daughter, Carol Jolly of Okeechobee, three granddaughters three grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial Service is Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Bass Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John W. Keith, Pastor of Oakview Baptist Church officiating.
There will be no visitation.
All arrangements are entrusted under the direction and care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Mary Maxine Harvel
Mary Maxine Harvel, age 77, of Okeechobee, died Dec. 15, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
Mrs. Harvel was born on April 5, 1925, in McKinney, Va., the daughter of John and Margaret L. (Kirkland) Elliott. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Norman Harvel of Okeechobee; daughter, Linda Bailey of Methuen, Mass.; son, Norman Eugene Harvel of Fort Pierce; sister, Margaret Bresnahan of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren also survive her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, from 10 a.m., until service time at 11 a.m., at the Bass Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home with Rev. James Garner officiating. Interment will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Bessie Barney
Bessie Barney, age 93, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
Mrs. Barney was born on June 25, 1909, in Greenup, Ky. Mrs. Barney had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1975 and was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by: her husband, Henry Barney; son, Matthew Barney; daughters, Delores Barney and Irene Coffee; and grandson, Avery Tolliver.
Survivors include: seven sons, Thomas Herbert (Kay) Barney of Greenup, Ky., Herman (Faye) Barney of Galion, Ohio, Thurman Barney of Raceland, Ky., Henry (Nanda) Barney, Jr. of Lloyd, Ky., Paul (Melva) Barney, James (Miriam) Barney and John (Shirley) Barney, all of Okeechobee; three daughters, Bernice Tolliver of Greenup, Ky., Pauline Robertson of Okeechobee and Eva Mae Arthur of Lexington, Ky.; 43 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and 11 great great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Old Regular Baptist Church, 201 S.W. 10 Ave., in Okeechobee, on Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 2 p.m. until funeral service at 4 p.m. Interment will be in Little Rosie Cemetery in Smith Branch, Ky.
All arrangements have been under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Nuel Baxter
Nuel Baxter, age 77, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002.
Mr. Baxter was born in Hallendale, formerly of Pembroke Pines.
He is survived be his daughter, Sandy Godwin of Okeechobee.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home.
Fred Hunter's Crematory is in charge of arrangements out of Hollywood.
Local arrangements are under the care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Amos Laverne Hazellief
Amos Laverne Hazellief, age 75, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002.
Mr. Hazellief was born on Aug. 9, 1927, in Fort Pierce and attended schools in Okeechobee. He was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 26 years of service.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Hazellief; son, Curtis Eugene Wright, Jr. of Clewiston; daughters, Denise Forbes, Dorett Zwak and Dawn Wilson; six grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Davis of Okeechobee, Inez Millard of Daytona Beach, Delores Snow of Melbourne, Myrna Hinton of Fort Pierce, Gloria Harkins of Morriston and Nadine Vick of Easley, S.C.
A memorial service was held for Mr. Hazellief.

Christine Eileen Lloyd
Christine Eileen Lloyd, age 69, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Lloyd was born on July 26, 1933, in Alabama and had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1965.
Preceded in death by: her husband, Brady Lloyd, Jr.; two sons, Bruce Lloyd and Steve Lloyd; brother, Troy Lawrence; and two sisters, Jean Smith and Emily Lawrence.
Survivors include: two daughters, Susie (Mike) Wood and Ann (David) Collins, all of Okeechobee; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Harold (Barbara) Lawrence of Caulfield, Mo., C.W. Lawrence of Truth or Consequence, N.M., Lonnie (Ann) Lawrence of Sweetwater, Tenn. and Sonny (Quida) Lawrence of Frostproof.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m., at Evergreen Cemetery, with Reverend Dr. John Keith, Pastor of Oakview Baptist Church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, Fl. 34973.
All arrangements have been under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

W.B. Veasey, Jr.
W.B. Veasey, Jr., age 87, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
Mr. Veasey was born on Oct. 22, 1915, in Durham, N.C., to Walter B. Veasey, Sr. and Annie Roberts Veasey. Mr. Veasey moved to Okeechobee in 1940 and married Mary Jewel Lightsey in 1942.
Preceded in death by: his parents; a sister; a brother; a son; and a sister-in-law.
Survivors include: his loving wife, Mary Veasey of Okeechobee; three daughters, Mary Ann (Carl) Norfleet of Aripeka, Doris Dye of Okeechobee and Roxie Veasey of Athens, Ga.; one son, Walter (Marie) Veasey of Okeechobee; four granddaughters; and one great-grandson also survives him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m., until service time at 11 a.m., at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Randy Huckabee officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Anthony Frederick Zunker, Sr.
Anthony Frederick Zunker, Sr., age 57, of Okeechobee, died Dec. 8, 2002.
Mr. Zunker was born Dec. 14, 1944, in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Zunker, formerly of Margate, had been a resident of Okeechobee for seven years. He served in the U.S. Marines and was "a proud and honorable man." He enjoyed restoring old cars, bowling and Christmas drives for children.
Survivors include: his wife of two years, Sharon J. Zunker of Okeechobee; four sons, Tebor (Shannon) Kreiter of N. Lauderdale, Anthony (Connie) F. Zunker, Jr. of Delray Beach, Anthony Charles Zunker of Manistee, Mich., and Carl August Zunker of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Melissa (James) J. Clayton of N. Lauderdale; three grandsons, Anthony D. Zunker and Logan D. Zunker, both of Delray Beach and Corey J. Kreiter of N. Lauderdale; and one granddaughter, Erin A. Kreiter of N. Lauderdale.
There will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, please donate a Christmas gift to a child.

Geraldine B. Kimbro
Geraldine B. Kimbro, age 73, of Okeechobee, died Dec. 7, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
Mrs. Kimbro was born March 23, 1929. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kimbro, Sr. and son James Kimbro, Jr.
She is survived by two daughters: Patricia Woodall of Okeechobee, and Debara Lang of Vero Beach; one brother, Buddy Brown of Arkansas; two sisters, Lettie Dean and Christine Stephans, both of Alabama; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at 2 p.m., at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home Chapel.
All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremations Services.

Patricia Staples Pohl
Patricia Staples Pohl, age 67, of Okeechobee, died Nov. 7, 2002, at Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie, Inc., in Stuart.
She was born May 25, 1935, in Johnston, Ohio.
Patricia had been a resident of Okeechobee for 16 years.
Survivors include: two sons, Roger Anthony Weber of West Palm Beach and Mark Weber of Okeechobee; one daughter, Loraine (Jim) K. Johnson of Okeechobee; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Herchel Retherford, Jimmy Retherford and Mervin Retherford; and sister, Mary Adkinson, all of Ohio.
There will be no visitation or services.

Mary Ann Bryan Lester
Mary Ann Bryan Lester, age 76, of Stuart, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Martin Memorial Medical Center.
Mrs. Lester was born in West Palm Beach and had been a resident of Stuart for the past three years, moving from Okeechobee. She was the beloved wife of the late W.J. Lester, Jr. for over 51 years. Mrs. Lester was a homemaker and a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary of Okeechobee.
Survivors include: three sons, William J. (Lynne) Lester III of Stuart, Steven Bryan (Patti) Lester of Toccoa, Ga. and Mark Rushin Lester and partner, Erik Siefker of Fort Lauderdale; two granddaughters, Melissa Marie Lester and Erin Lynne Lester of Toccoa, Ga.; and Mike Mowry whom she thought of as a son, also survives her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, from 2 until 4 p.m., at the chapel of Young and Prill Funeral Home, 6801 S.E. Federal Hwy., Stuart.
A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at noon, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lakeland.
All arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Young and Prill Funeral Home, Stuart.

Bertie C. Fonseca
Bertie C. Fonseca, age 75, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
Mr. Fonseca was born on May 20, 1927, in Manhattan, N.Y. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and worked as a Senior Director with Western Union Corporation.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy C. Rees.
Survivors include: one sister, Beryl Tutaev of England; niece, Lynn (Dominick) Hurcombe of England; cousins, Merle and Dick Roper of Jamaica; several other nieces and nephews, all of England; and many dear friends around the world also survive him.
There will be no visitation or services.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Freddie Lee McKinnon, Jr.
Freddie Lee McKinnon, Jr., age 64, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Okeechobee Health Care Facility.
Mr. McKinnon was born on June 25, 1938, in Dublin, Ga. He had been a resident of Okeechobee for 36 years.
Mr. McKinnon was preceded in death by his brother, Zebedee McKinnon and sisters, Ladine, Beulah and Alberta.
Survivors include: two sons, Freddie McKinnon of Dublin, Ga., and Prentice McKinnon of Miami; one daughter, Evon McKinnon of Orangeburg, S.C.; four grandchildren; mother, Mary Lee Dennis of Okeechobee; six brothers, Horace Dennis, Jr., of Nashville, Tenn., Vonnis Dennis of Jasper, Ind., James Dennis of Japan, Clarence Dennis, John Dennis and Eugene Dennis, all of Okeechobee; and four sisters, Betty Kinsey and Peggy Davis, both of Dublin, Ga., Atha Beverly and Mary Walker, both of Okeechobee.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, from noon until funeral service time at 2 p.m., with Reverend Maurice Alexander, Pastor of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Florence "Abby" Abigail Osceola
Florence "Abby" Abigail Osceola, age 31, of Brighton Seminole Reservation in Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at her resident.
Miss Osceola was born on Feb. 14, 1971, in Fort Lauderdale and had been a lifetime resident of Brighton.
Survivors include: her mother, Addie Osceola of Brighton; two daughters, Ashton D. Baxley and Alexis A. Osceola James of Brighton; four brothers, Rodney (Lisa) Osceola, Reno (Kelli) Osceola, Ramsey (Stephanie) Osceola and Billy (Angel) Osceola, all of Brighton; and several nieces and nephews survive her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home.
Funeral services and interment will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 6, at 10:30 a.m., at the Ortona Cemetery in Ortona, with Reverend Wonder Johns officiating.
All arrangements have been under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.
