William H. Russell, Jr.
William H. Russell, Jr., age 88, of Melbourne, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Carnegie Gardens Nursing Home Center in Melbourne.
Mr. Russell was born on June 13, 1914, in Goulds, Florida. Mr. Russell was a former resident of Okeechobee for 20 years. He was a member of the Okeechobee Moose Lodge and a Past Exalted Ruler with the Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera S. Russell.
Survivors include: his son, William (Analita) H. Russell III of Melbourne; daughter, Robin (Lee) Ruth Semon of Sebring; two grandsons, Benjamin (Lydia) Anderson and Andy (Megan) Anderson of Salsbury, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Carolyn Lorton of Palm Bay and Donna Cobb of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and seven great-grandchildren also survive him.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Buxton Funeral Home on Sunday, July 28, at 2 p.m., with officers of the Okeechobee Elks Lodge, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, Fla. 34973.
All arrangements have been under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Alphonso Crowell
Alphonso Crowell, age 68, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
He was born March 25, 1934, in Pompano Beach. He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church, Chairman of the Deacons Board, Superintendent of Sunday School, member of Brotherhood, New Hope Lodge #450, New Light Chapter #67 OES, Dept. of Area Council of Indian River County OES. Mr. Crowell was employed as a supervisor with the Eckerd Youth Development Center. He has been a longtime resident of Okeechobee since 1945 coming from Pompano Beach.
Survivors include: a loving wife, Malinda Crowell of Okeechobee; three daughters, Alphonsine Dean of St. Petersburg, Marilyn Crowell of Okeechobee, Ana Linda Crowell-Gjertson of Kennesaw, Ga.; step-father, Enoch Clark of Okeechobee; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren also survive him.
Friends may call on Saturday, July 27, from 11 a.m. until noon, at the First Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, at noon, at the First Missionary Baptist Church.
Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce.

Ralph Steven McCranie
Ralph Steven McCranie, age 46, of Loxahatchee, died in an early morning single vehicle accident on Sunday, July 21, 2002.
He was born in West Palm Beach and raised in Belle Glade. Mr. McCranie attended Okeechobee High School from 1970 through 1973 graduating in 1974 from Purvis High School in Mississippi.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie McCranie and brother, Kenneth Perkins.
Survivors include: two sons, Jeff McCranie and Derek McCranie; two close friends like-daughters, Misty Herman and Amber Herman; two brothers, Jerry Perkins (Francis) and Richard LeFils; one sister, Mary Francis Burke (Lee); and his father, Raymond Anthony McCraine (Vivian) and many nieces and nephews also survive him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 26, from 6 until 8 p.m., at Palms West Funeral Home with a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
All arrangements are under the care of Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Park Way, S.R. 7, Royal Palm Beach, Florida.

Domingo Silvas
Domingo Silvas, age 79, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Okeechobee Health Care Facility.
He was born on August 4, 1922, in Rio Honde, Texas, to Joaquin and Getrudes Olivarez Silvas.
Mr. Silvas was employed in the agriculture industry.
Survivors include: his wife, Maria Silvas of Okeechobee; eight sons, Domingo Silvas of West Palm Beach, Juan Silvas of Port St. Lucie, Juaquin Silvas, Jesus Silvas, Hilberto Silvas, Ruben Silvas, David Silvas and Andrew Silvas, all of Okeechobee; seven daughters, Frances Silvas, Carmen Martinez, Celestina Silvas, Sylvia Mestre and Romana Silvas, all of Okeechobee, Helen Miranda of Pasadena, Texas, Tomasita Tomayo of Darnell, Ark; 43 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren also survive him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25, from 5 until 7 p.m., at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at the Okeechobee Church of God with the Reverend Jack Kemp visitation minister at the Church of God officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Melvin Arthor Stewart
Melvin Arthor Stewart, age 63, of Okeechobee, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Stewart was born April 15, 1939, in Mascot, Florida. He is the grandson of early pioneer settlers to Okeechobee, Martha Jane and Judge Henry H. Hancock. He was a 30-year employee of Sprint Telephone Company. Mr. Stewart was an active member of the Oakview Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Mr. Stewart served 12 years in the U.S. Army, including two tours of duty in Vietnam.
Preceded in death by two sons, Kendrick Michael Stewart and Lon Olan Stewart.
Survirors include: his wife of almost 20 years, Linda Stewart and a sister, Bonnie (Wayne) Thomas of Okeechobee; two daughters, Daphne Lineman of Colorado Springs and her husband, Jim Lineman of Jensen Beach, Jolene Stewart of Jensen Beach; three step-children, Donna (Shane) Arrieta of Valrico, Darrell Riley of Arcadia and Christopher Boyett of Okeechobee; eight grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and cousins also survive him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, from 5 until 7 p.m., at the Bass Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 23, at 11 a.m., at the Oakview Baptist Church with Pastor John Keith and Pastor Walter Montz, retired Pastor of Okeechobee Church of God officiating. Interment to be held at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to Oakview Baptist Church Building Fund.
All arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Funeral Home.

Helen M. Crisafi
Helen M. Crisafi, age 85, of Okeechobee, died Friday, July 20, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
Formerly of Maple Shade, N.J., she has been a resident of Okeechobee for five years and was member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mrs. Crisafi is preceded in death by husbands, Theodore Adams and Leon Crisafi.
Survivors include: son, Robert (Stephanie) Adams of Philadelphia, Pa.; three daughters, Eileen (Bill) Casian of Okeechobee, Donna (Michael) Crisafi of Maple Shade, N.J., and Deborah (George) Craft of Bolder, Colo.; stepsons, Ken (Ruth) Adams of Levittown, Pa., Charles (Kathy) Crisefi of Mt. Holly, N.J. and Michael (Donna) Crisafi of Maple Shade, N.J.; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; sisters, Ellie (Paul) Bullock, Essie Warner, Irene Golden Ridge Yadlowski, all of Philadelphia, Pa.; and good friends, Ray and Gertie Cross of Ft. Pierce also survive her.
A funeral mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, July 23, at 8:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Doris Jene Hampton
Doris Jene Hampton, age 75, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in Stuart, Florida.
Mrs. Hampton was born on Nov. 15, 1926, in Louisville, Ky., daughter of Stanley and Jennie Parsons. Mrs. Hampton was a court reporter in Indiana by trade and a member of the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee.
Preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hampton and sister, Marjorie Parsons.
Survivors include: two daughters, Eileen (Rodney) Turner of Dallas, Texas and Twyla Schildmier of Indiana; three stepsons, Rickey D. (Nancy) Hampton, Brian Hampton and Tracy (Sherri) Hampton, all of Indiana; brother, Harold Lee Parsons of Athens, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren also survive her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, from 5 until 7 p.m., at the Bass Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee, with Reverend Randy Huckabee officiating. Interment to be in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee, 401 S.W. Fourth St., Okeechobee, Fl. 34974 or Molly's House, 403 S.E. Osceola St., Stuart, Fl. 34994.

Ricardo Gleason
Ricardo Gleason, age 47, of Lakeport, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at his residence.
Born March 4, 1955, in Punxsutawney, Pa. Mr. Gleason had been a resident of the Lakeport/Okeechobee area for 12 years. He enjoyed playing darts and attended the Lakeport Church of Christ.
Survivors include: his companion, Sherry Murphy of Lakeport; two daughters, Nikkie L. Gleason of Punxsutawney, Pa., and Mikayla Anita Gleason of Lakeport; and one son, Nathan Gleason of Pennsylvania; his mother, Anita Gleason; one sister, Clara Witherow, both of Punxsutawney, Pa., and four brothers, Bruce Gleason, Clair Gleason, Jerry Gleason and Louis Gleason all of Texas.
Visitation will be held at the Buxton Funeral Home on Friday, July 19, from 5 until 7 p.m., followed by funeral services at 7 p.m.
The family would appreciate any donations to help with funeral expenses.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Yvonne Madell Bakich
Yvonne Madell Bakich, age 57, of Buckhead Ridge, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at the Hospice House of Palm Beach County.
Yvonne had dedicated almost five years helping members of the Okeechobee and Moore Haven communities at Big Lake National Bank in addition to 19 years with Community/Barnett Bank. She was well known for helping with balancing of checkbooks, working with the Chamber of Commerce and being extensively involved in numerous civic organizations.
Yvonne was born in Clarksville, Tenn., she graduated from Immaculata High School in Miami and attended Miami Dade Community College.
Survivors include: her husband, Mike; one daughter, Chana Schroeder and granddaughter, Brookyln Sheehan, both of Tampa; her parents, Robert and Madell Becherich; brother, Karl Becherich, all of Miami; and mother-in-law, Sue Olsen of Clanton, Ala. also survives her.
The family will receive friends at the building previously occupied by Oakview Baptist Church, 1735 S.W. 24 Ave., Okeechobee, on Saturday, July 20, from 2 until 3 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m., at the former Oakview Baptist Church building.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, Inc., 5300 E. Avenue, West Palm Beach, Fl. 33407.

James "Jimbo" Laughlin
James "Jimbo" Laughlin, age 42, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio, he has been a resident of Okeechobee for six years and attended Believer's Fellowship Church. He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast.
Survivors include: his wife, Patti; three daughters, Taunya Ann Reed, Emily Ann Laughlin and Charlene Janeen Laughlin, all of Okeechobee; his parents, James and Doris Laughlin of Fort Pierce; brother, Terrance (Susan) Laughlin of Michigan; three sisters, Bonnie (Andy) Orem of Indiana, Charleen (Kelly) Thomas of Georgia and Brenda Cauffield of Ft. Pierce; maternal grandparents, Roland and Charlene Mickens of Ohio; 11 nieces and nephews; and close friend, Clyde Jones also survives him.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 18, from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m., with Pastor Nick Hopkins of Believers Fellowship officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Sophie N. "Terry" Lee
Sophie N. "Terry" Lee, age 80, of Licthford Falls Health Care, Raleigh N.C., died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Raleigh Community Hospital.
Terry was a 20 year resident of Pine Ridge Trailer Park. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served in the Women's Air Corp during WWII.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee.
Survivors include: her daughter, Donna Lee of Franklinton, N.C.; her son, Edward Lee of Oakland Calif.; grandson, James Willis of Wake Forest, N.C.; granddaughter, Dawn Snow of Wake Forest, N.C.; and great-grandsons, Andrew Willis, Glenn Snow and Eric Snow.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Bright Funeral Home and Cremation, P.O. Box 646, 405 South Main Street, Wake Forest, N.C. 27588-0646.

Mary F. Chason
Mary F. Chason, age 43, of Tampa, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at her residence.
She was born in Jacksonville, moving to Tampa from Okeechobee in 1992.
She was a secretary with the local government.
Survivors include: three brothers, Charles, Robert and Chester; six sisters, Laura Daniels, Joyce Graham, Christine Straughan, Virginia Gilliland, Sylvia and Helen Chason.
Memorial services will be held Monday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity.

Lillian Christine Morgan
Lillian Christine Morgan, age 69, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at her residence.
She was born on October 18, 1932, in Jersey Shore, Pa., Mrs. Morgan had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1976.
Survivors include: her loving husband of 51 years, Audley M. Morgan of Okeechobee; four sons, Steve (Wanda) Morgan, Jim (Yvonne) Morgan, Gordie (Malissa) Morgan, all of Okeechobee and Mike (Brenda) Morgan of Winter Haven; five daughters, Wanda (William) Lewis of Jefferson, N.C., Cindy (Sam) Crouch of Haymarket, Va., Kathie (Tom) Riley, Sharon (Claude) Poirier and Linda (Don) Weir of Okeechobee; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Yaggie of Roaring Branch, Pa.; and two sisters, Kay Harer of Liberty, Pa., and Ida Harer of Okeechobee, also survives her.
There will be no visitation or services.

Lois Irene Bedwell
Lois Irene Bedwell, age 80, of Homestead, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Homestead Hospital.
She was born March 8, 1922, in Jacksonville, Ala. Mrs. Bedwell had formerly resided in Okeechobee for 22 years.
Survivors include: two sons, Larry (JoAnn) Bedwell and Jeff (Donna) Bedwell, both of Okeechobee; one daughter, Kathy Dennis of Homestead; five grandsons, David and Jared Dennis, both of Homestead, Josh and Matthew Bedwell, both of Titusville and Matthew Bedwell of Okeechobee; one grandaughter, Nina Bedwell of Titusville; one brother, James Wheeler of Destin; and one sister, Joyce Welch of Jacksonville, Ala., also survives her.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Saturday, July 13, from 1 until 3 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. with Reverend Dr. John Keith, Pastor of Oakview Baptist Church officiating.
