Richard E. Swift
Richard E. Swift, age 82, of Indiana, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, in Westminster Village, Ind., following a long illness.
Mr. Swift was born on Aug. 19, 1919, in Tipton County, Ind. Mr. Swift retired from Delco Remy, Anderson, Ind., in 1980. He was also a farmer and a part time meat cutter at the former Wise Food Market in Muncie. Mr. Swift spent 20 years wintering in Okeechobee.
He was a member of the Hi-Twelve Club in Okeechobee; Delaware Lodge No. 46 Chapter and Commandry; Scottish Rites Valley of Indianapolis; and past president of the Muncie Light Horse Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemuel and Nora Swift; his wife, Jan Elizabeth Roach Swift; brother, William Swift and infant sister.
Survivors include: son, Richard E. (Diane) Swift Jr. of Anderson, Ind.; daughter, Ann (Monte) Stebbins; sister, Barbara (Bud) Cook of Madison, Ind.; sister-in-law, Ellen Swift; brother-in-law, A.J. Roach of Lafayette, Ind.; four grandchildren, Wendy Jolly, Chanda Stebbins, Tyce (Becky) Stebbins, Shalane Stebbins; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, from 2:30 until 4 p.m., at the Garden View Funeral Home in Muncie, Ind.
Masonic Rites will be held prior to the services at the funeral home.
Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. in the Garden View Funeral Home.
Interment to be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Indiana.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Garden View Funeral Home, Muncie, Ind.

William G. Osborne
William G. Osborne, age 81, of Okeechobee, died on May 13, 2002, at Hospice of the Treasure Coast in Fort Pierce.
He was born on April 13, 1921, in Jonesboro, Ark., the son of the late William and Gertrude Osborne. Mr. Osborne was a heavy equipment owner by trade and served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include: three sons, Jeff Osborne; Paul Albea, both of Okeechobee; son, Doug Osborne, of Indiana; daughter, Donna Hunt, of Okeechobee; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 17, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Pasco Funeral Home in Greenfield, Ind.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at the Pasco Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Ind.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Bass Funeral Home.

Anthony Ray Seger
Anthony Ray Seger, age 27, of Okeechobee, died on May 10, 2002, in Okeechobee.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1974, in Owosso, Mich., the son of Mathew J. Seger and Dianna Lynn Wisley. Mr. Seger was a laborer in agriculture by trade. He came to Okeechobee from Owosso, Mich. in 2001.
Survivors include: mother, Dianna Lynn Wisley, of Fowlerville, Mich.; father, Mathew J. Seger, of Michigan; grandmother, Carol Ferris, of Chesaning, Mich.; aunt, Linda Durfee, of Owosso, Mich.; aunt, Carolyn Zmitko, of Corunna, Mich.
Funeral services will be held in Michigan.
Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Owosso, MIch.
All local arrangements are under the direction and care of the Bass Funeral Home.

Smawley Ollie Snow Holata
Smawley Ollie Snow Holata, age 50, of Brighton Seminole Indian Reservation, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the Florida Hospital-Heartland in Sebring.
She was born on Jan. 8, 1952, in Okeechobee, to Bob Pierce Snow and Alice Micco Snow. Smawley had been a resident of the Brighton Reservation for 20 years. She was a member of the First Indian Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband of 29 years, Eli Holata; two sons, Jay Holata of Fort Lauderdale and Kevin Holata of Okeechobee; three daughters, Shannon Holata of Boca Raton, Valerie Holata of Brighton and Andrea Holata of Tampa; five grandchildren; mother, Alice Snow; one brother, Albert Snow of Brighton; and one sister, Salina Dorgan of Okeechobee.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 14, from 5 until 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be extended on Wednesday, May 15, at the First Indian Baptist Church in Brighton from 10 until 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be conducted following visitation at 11 a.m. with Reverend Wonder Johns and Reverend Howard Micco officiating.
Interment will follow in Ortona Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Michael F. Jakubow
Michael F. Jakubow, 76, of Okeechobee, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Philadelphia, Penn.
He has been a resident of Okeechobee for 12 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include: his devoted wife of 42 years, Joan Mary Jakubow of Okeechobee; three sons, Michael Jakubow of Columbus, Ohio, Martin Jakubow of Canton, Ohio, and James Jakubow of Boca Raton; four granddaughters; and, one grandson.
There will be no visitation or services.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Helen J. Duckenfield
Helen J. Duckenfield, 86, of Buckhead Ridge, died May 7, 2002, in Clewiston, Fla. She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Philadelphia, Penn.
She was the daughter of Harry and Helen C. Kuhlen.
She had been a department manager for J. Byrons.
Survivors include: sons, Edward G. Duckenfield of Pennsylvania and Harry J. Duckenfield of New Jersey; brother, Jack Kuhlen of New Jersey; and, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date.
All arrangements are under the care and direction of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Robert Odell Fralix
Robert Odell Fralix, 79, of Okeechobee, Fla., died May 9, 2002, in Okeechobee. He was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Bufford Station, Tenn.
He was the son of Boyd and Ludie Fralix.
He came to Okeechobee from Tennessee in 1959 and was a farmer. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: sons, Joe, Robert, Tommy, Troy, Jimmy and Randy Fralix, all of Okeechobee; son, Dell-Wayne Fralix of Alabama; daughters Mary Jean Harrell of Okeechobee, Dottie Cole of Tennessee, Glenda Wilson of Missouri and Brenda Madrigal of Okeechobee; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the Missionary Baptist Church in Okeechobee beginning at 11 a.m. Visitation will be Monday, May 13, 2002, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Okeechobee.
All arrangements are under the care and direction of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Lorene Shannon Gaither
Lorene Shannon Gaither, 87, of Indiantown, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 26, 1914, in Blount County, Ala. Mrs. Gaither, formerly of Miami, had resided in Indiantown for 19 years. She was a member of the Indiantown Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jones Gaither.
Survivors include: son, Paul Edward (Sara) Gaither of Hollywood; two daughters, Judy Tulotta (John) of Indiantown, and Patricia Ann Salter (Raymond) of Hueytown, Ala.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Sloan (Loretta), Holksbluff, Ala., and Billy Ray Sloan of Charleston, S.C.; and two sisters, Donna Mae Foster of Holksbluff, Ala., and Jean Hazelton of Charleston, S.C.
There will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie, Inc., 2030 S.E. Ocean Blvd, Stuart, Fla., 34996.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Michael F. Jakubow, 76, of Okeechobee, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Philadelphia, Penn.

Ernesto 'Bumper' Ochoa, Jr.
Ernesto 'Bumper' Ochoa, Jr., 33, of Okeechobee, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Hospice of the Treasure Coast, Inc., in Fort Pierce.
He was born Nov. 21, 1964, in Dimmitt, Texas.
Mr. Ochoa has been a lifetime resident of Okeechobee. He graduated from Okeechobee High School, class of 1986, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: his mother, Mary Ochoa of Okeechobee; two sisters, Emily Parker of Okeechobee and Enedelia Ochoa of Houston, Texas; one brother, Eloy Ochoa of Okeechobee; three nieces, Nicole Saceda, Jennifer Saceda and Alexis Parker, all of Okeechobee; one nephew, Austin Parker of Okeechobee; maternal grandmother, Manuela Perez of Texas; five maternal uncles in Texas; six paternal uncles in Okeechobee; three maternal aunts in Texas; seven paternal aunts in Okeechobee; and, 241 paternal cousins.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Monday, May 13, 2002, from 4 until 7 p.m. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. following visitation by Rev. Richard E. Whipple, officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Ruth Lucille Stinnett
Ruth Lucille Stinnett, 85, of Okeechobee, died May 8, 2002, in Pensacola. She was born Sept. 17, 1916, in Williamson Co., Ill.
She was the daughter of William and Bertha Johns
She was a restaurant hostess, and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include: sons, Bob (June) Stinnett of Pensacola, Larry (Pat) Stinnett of Woodstock, Ga., Julian (Betty) Stinnett of Okeechobee; six grandchildren, Danny Stinnett of Okeechobee, Scott Stinnett of Woodstock, Ga., Chad Stinnett of Woodstock, Ga., Pam Levitt of Marietta, Ga., Kim Crittenden of Pensacola; granddaughter Natalie Pate; and, nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Allen Stinnett and grandson Joey Stinnett.
Services will be held Sunday May 12, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Okeechobee beginning at 3 p.m. Services will be officiated by Rev. Fred Gardner.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 11, 2002, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the care and direction of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Robert Walton "Rob" Hancock
Robert Walton "Rob" Hancock, age 94, died on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at his residence in Fyffe, Ala.
Rob was born on Aug. 7, 1907, in Okeechobee, to Henry Hudson Hancock and Martha Jane (Sturgess) Hancock. His parents were pioneers to the Okeechobee area around the 1900's and along with raising a large family, they were part of the community leadership and the founding of the city of Okeechobee.
He retired to the Fyffe/Rainsville area in 1977. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fyffe and was known for his love of gospel singing.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosa Lee Hancock; daughter, Janie Elizabeth Tankersley; three brothers, Clyde, Winfield and Martin Hancock; three sisters, Ruth Gray, Elsie Gray and Janie Bell Stewart all of Okeechobee.
Survivors include: three sons, Robert W. (Gladys) Hancock of San Diego, Calif., Harold A. (Claire) Hancock and Henry H. (Helen) Hancock all of Okeechobee; step-children; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren also survive him.
Visitation was held on Thursday, May 9, and funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10, at 3 p.m. at the W.T. Funeral Chapel in Rainsville, Ala. with the Reverend Delmer Bethune and George Pickering officiating.
Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Rainsville, Ala.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel located at 2226 Main St., Hwy. 75 South, Rainsville, Ala. 35986.

Maryjane Alice Chobert
Maryjane Alice Chobert, age 69, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at her residence.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pa. Mrs. Chobert had been a resident of Okeechobee for 15 years. She was instrumental in helping restore the Okeechobee Fire Truck No. 33.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Dixx and William Joseph Chobert.
Survivors include: three daughters, Alice Nicholson of Nesco, N.J., Jane Ann Chobert of Okeechobee, and Mary Lou (Michael) Narbus of Rockwood, Maine; three grandsons, Ralph A. Medoro, Jr. of Atco, N.J., Christopher Narbus of Rockwood, Maine and William Nicolson of Nesco, N.J.; five granddaughters, Jane Marie Medoro and Beth Ann Medoro both from Atco, N.J., Mia Jones of Nesco, N.J., Katie Narbus and Leah Narbus both from Rockwood, Maine; one brother, Thomas (Dottie) Murray of New Castle, Del.; half-sister, Mary Primo of Pine Hill, N.J.; and special nephew, William Primo of Okeechobee.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Buxton Funeral Home on Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, Fla. 34973.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.
