Ray Walter Jones
Ray Walter Jones, age 82, of Okeechobee, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at the VA Hospital in Palm Beach County.
Born in Vernon, AL and former of Hollywood, Mr. Jones has been a resident of Okeechobee since 1991.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Evelyn, two sons; Kim Jones (Susan) of Fort Lauderdale, and Kevin Jones (Missy) of Reynoldsburg, Ohio. In addition, he is survived by one grandson Jordan Jones and two granddaughters, Gabby Mallette and London Mallette, all of Reynoldsburg. Also surviving are three brothers, Gene (Dot), Dale (Joyce) of Montgomery, AL, and Thurman (Betty) of Russellville, AL. There is also one sister, Charlene Seale of Birmingham, AL.
Mr. Jones served in the United States Air Force during World War II and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. with Pastor John C. Hirst of Peace Lutheran Church officiating.
Interment will take place in the National Cemetery in Bushnell.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Charles Ray Henson
Charles Ray Henson 63, of Frostproof died on Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Royal Care of Avon Park. Born April 10, 1940 at Huxford, AL., he came here from LaBelle, Florida thirty-four years ago. He was a truck driver for Crumbly Brothers.
He was of the Church of God Faith.
Preceded in death by: Parents, Carey and Girlie Henson.
Survivors include: Wife, Carylon Henson of Frostproof, FL. Step-daughters, Teresa Sutley of Alturas, FL, Elizabeth Trammell of Frostproof, Fl, Tami Barrs of Raford, Fl. Step-son, Jerry Partain of Winter Haven, FL. Brothers, Gene and Kenneth Henson both of Frostproof, FL., Terry Henson of Ottway, TN., Wayne Henson of Avon Park,FL. Sisters, Ellen Creel of FT. Pierce, FL. Karen Pierce of Nashville, AK. Yvonne Kinchen of LaBelle, FL., Judy Flint of Ft. Meyers, FL., Beverly Hardt and Nancy Rispoli both of Lehigh Acres, FL.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home of Frostproof with Rev. Rex Daniels officiating.
Interment was a the Silver Hill Cemetery.

Walter H. Fitzgerald, Jr.
Walter H. Fitzgerald, Jr 94, of Indian Lake Estates, Fl., died on Sunday, January 4, 2004 at his residence. Born, November 9, 1909 at Sweetwater, TX., he move to the area from Miami, FL., in 1973.
He was a Retired Pilot for Braniff Airlines. He was of the Methodist Faith. Survivors include: Daughter, Gail Bowen of Newtown, Ct. Brother, Glenn Fitzgerald of Sweetwater, TX. Sister, Josephine Simpson of Sawatoni, TX.

Tai William Landers
Tai William Landers of Frostproof, Fl., died on Thursday, January 1, 2004 at his residence.
He was born on October 6, 2003, at Sebring, FL.
His family attended the Church of God in Frostproof.
Survivors include: Mother, Christy Landers of Frostproof, Father Greg Greene of Lake Wales, Sisters, Tia Shyan Landers of Frostproof, Heather Diane Pierce of Titusville, FL., Kathleen Greene Pierce of Bartow, FL., Emalee Greene of Bartow, FL. Maternal Grandparents: Mike and Joyce Landers of Frostproof,
Fl., Curtis and Barbara Cutter of Frostproof, Maternal Great-grandmother Gladys Landers of Frostproof, Paternal Grandmother, Elaine Truluck of Lake Wales, Paternal Grandfather, Buck Greene of Lake Wales.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 5, 2004 at the Church of God at Frostproof, Fl., with Rev. Rex Daniels officiating.
Interment was at the Silver Hill Cemetery.

Pencie Dugger Sullivan
Pencie Dugger Sullivan 91, of Frostproof, died Monday, January 5, 2004 at The Oaks in Avon Park. Born September 7, 1912 at Sanderson, FL., she moved to Frostproof seventy-five years ago from Avon Park. She was a Homemaker, member of Frostproof Church of Christ, former member of the Frostproof Woman's Club, volunteer for Frostproof Historical Museum, A member of AARP.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, the outdoors, and gardening.
She was preceded in death by: Husband, Clyde Matthew Sullivan, and a daughter, Thelma Jean Barkuloo from Panama City, FL., in 1993.
Survivors include: Daughter, Judy Plemmons of Etowah, NC. Son Terry Sullivan of Floral City, FL. Brother, Owen Dugger of St. Augustine, FL.
6 Grandchildren and 7 Great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 7, at the Frostproof Church of Christ. Interment followed at the Silver Hill Cemetery in Frostproof.

Wilburn N. Thompson
Wilburn N. Thompson 84, of Lake Wales, Florida died on Friday, January 2, 2004 at the Spring Lake Nursing Center. Born June 6, 1919 at Swainsboro, GA., he moved to Lake Wales from Avon Park, FL., in 1924.
He was a retired Automotive Painter. He was a veteran of W.W.II serving in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include Daughter, Marlene Allen of Polk City, FL. A Sister Mae Jones of Winter Haven, FL.
2 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren.

Sally Belle Butler
Sally Belle Butler, age 87, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Raulerson Hospital. Mrs. Butler was born, May 2, 1916, in Cleveland, Ga. to Joseph and Alice Beach.
Mrs. Butler was a salesperson for Stanley Home Products. She came to Okeechobee from Belle Glade in 1975, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Okeechobee.
Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Frank Butler.
Survivors include: one daughter, Leah B. (Ken) Sands of Charleston, S.C.; three sons, Phillip N. (Barbara) Butler of Clewiston, Richard B. (Connie) Butler of Pahokee and Ted N. Butler of Okeechobee; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and, one great, great grandchild.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 15, from 4 until 7 p.m., at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Okeechobee with Reverend James Dawson officiating.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the memorial fund at First United Methodist Church.
All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Ruby C. Taylor
Ruby C. Taylor, age 77, of Hamilton, died at her residence on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004. She was born in Hamilton on Jan. 16, 1926, the daughter of Rev. Owen and Ellen (Saulmon) Allen. Mrs. Taylor was a very active member of the Pater Avenue Pentecostal Church since 1976, "she loved her church and the people," a member of the Ft. Hamilton Chapter #568 Order of Eastern Star and was employed as the administrator of Golden Years Health Care for eighteen years, retiring in 1983. On Aug. 2, 1941, in Covington, Ky. she was married to Dewey C. Taylor and was a loving wife, mother and grandma.
Survivors include: her husband, Dewey Taylor of Hamilton; two sons, Richard Taylor and Michael and his wife Cindy Taylor, both of Hamilton; by one daughter and her best friend, Jane and her husband Bobby Hammons of Hamilton; by one sister, Lola Wren of Berea, Ky.; by eleven grandchildren, very devoted Melinda Mueller, Kimberly Swafford, Dewey Hammons, Greg Hammons, Todd Hammons, Brenda Markel, Ronda Hughs, Katherine Taylor, Michelle Taylor, Renee Terry, and Mary Ellen Powell; and by four step-grandchildren, Ruth Ann, Hazel, Tommy, and Ronnie. She is also survived by a special niece, Wanda Spurlock, a special nephew, Luke Croucher; special friends Dorothy and Leroy Gabbard; and a dear lifetime friend, Millie Rooks. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Debra Kay Taylor in 1976 and Judith Ann Taylor in 1943; by four brothers, Paul, Chester, Owen Jr., and Ernest Allen; and six sisters, Mollie Burress, Delia Croucher, Ethel Webb, Jessie Guynes, Hazel Rogers, and Martha Phillips.
Funeral Services will be held at the Pater Avenue Pentecostal Church, 1321 Pater Avenue, on Friday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Willard Baker, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday after 5 p.m. The family requests memorials to the Pater Avenue Pentecostal Church. The family would like to recognize their pastor in Florida, Rev. Noah Taylor of the Church of God for his spiritual comfort.

Marvin P. "Buddy" Smith
Marvin P. "Buddy" Smith, age 54, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at his residence. Born Oct. 26, 1947, in Brighton, to Patrick E. and Jureatha (Hicks) Smith. Mr. Smith was a self-employed truck driver and hauled for Freedom Plastics.
Survivors include: his wife, Geri Smith of Okeechobee; daughters, Dawn Marie (Danny) Raulerson, Paulette Karol Smith and Cheyenne Smith, all of Okeechobee; three sisters, Jeannette Waldron of Sebring, Beatrice Greer of London, Ky. and Mabel Purvis of Okeechobee; brother, Glen Smith of Okeechobee; grandchildren, Colton Smith, Mariah and Rebekah Raulerson ; many nieces and nephews also survive him.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 11, from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Bass Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held graveside on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery with Reverend Dr. John Keith officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Bass Funeral Home.

Hubert H. Joles
Hubert H. Joles, age 69, of Okeechobee died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Raulerson Hospital. Mr. Joles was born June 11, 1934, in Utica, Ill. to Richard and Ruth Joles. He came to Okeechobee from Carbondale, Ill. in 1983. Mr. Joles was former owner of Herb's Hid-Way RV Sales in Okeechobee, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge Okeechobee and the Moose Lodge of Buckhead Ridge.
Mr. Joles was preceded in death by his son, Mike Joles.
Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Janet Joles; two daughters, Debbie Needham and Theresa Serrett, both of Okeechobee; two sons, Curtis Joles of Okeechobee and Jay Joles of Carbondale, Ill; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; four sisters; and, one brother.
Visitation will be from noon until service time on Wednesday, Jan. 14, with Masonic funeral services at 1:30 p.m., at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with Reverend Sam Vuleta officiating.
Memorials may be made to Masonic Shriner's Hospital, mailed to Okeechobee Shrine Club at 1855 S.W. 53rd St.
A11 arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Ruby H. Marks
Ruby H. Marks, age 93, of Okeechobee died Jan. 11, 2004, at Okeechobee Health Care Facility. She was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Monticello, to Charles and Rosa Bell Hawk.
Ms. Marks came to Okeechobee from New York in 1964. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Ms. Marks was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Marks; her daughter, Judy Palazzolo; and, her sister, Annie Mae Hancock.
Survivors include: her sister, Mavis Nelson of Panama City; and, several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 3 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are entrusted to the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Emma Jean Owens
Emma "Gramma Jean" Owens, age 70, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004. Mrs. Owens was born Nov. 12, 1933, in Jackson, Tenn., to Charlie Campbell and Birtie Mae Nelson.
Mrs. Owens married Watson Kennedy Owens on Dec. 10, 1966. She moved to Okeechobee from Tampa in 1980. Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and member of the Elks Lodge of Okeechobee. She was a loving mother to many.
Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her husband, Watson Kennedy Owens; her parents; and, ten brothers and sisters.
Survivors include: her daughter, Michelle White of Okeechobee; four grandsons Michael, Marc, Mathew, and Gregory, all of Okeechobee; son, Tom Walker of Safety Harbor; sister, Dorothy Campbell Crook of Nashville, Tenn.; and, various nieces and nephews.
Interment will be beside her beloved husband at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
All local arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Richard Paul Manz
Richard Paul Manz, age 78, of Okeechobee, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at his residence. Born Nov. 30, 1925, in New York, N.Y, Mr. Manz had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1972. He served in the U.S. Marines.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 51 years, Jean Manz of Okeechobee; three sons, Christopher Manz and William (Cindy) Lindstrom of Okeechobee and Jonathan Manz of Pawley's Island, S.C.; one grandson, Richard Ryan Manz of Okeechobee; and, one brother, Arthur (Pat) Manz of Georgetown, S.C.
There will he no visitation or services.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Delmer Ray Withrow
Delmer Ray Withrow, age 72, of Buckhead Ridge in Okeechobee, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Dec. 14, 1931, in Morehead, Ky., Mr. Withrow had recently moved to the Okeechobee area. He was formerly of Dayton, Ohio and Hephzibah, Ga. He was retired after serving 22 years as a Sergeant 1st Class in the Third Armor Division of the U.S. Army. He was a Master Mason and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Hephzibah, Ga.
Survivors include: his wife, Catherine Withrow; son, Delmer Ray Withrow, Jr. of Columbus, Ga.; daughter, Debbie Jo Withrow of Mexico; mother, Mayme Evelyn Withrow of Morehead, Ky.; two brothers, M.L. (Shirley) Withrow of Kettering, Ohio and Ron (Faye) Withrow of Beaver Creek, Ohio; and, one sister, Marjorie (Bill) Madewell of Huber Heights, Ohio.
Funeral services and interment will be in Wayneshoro, Ga.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Frank Henry Deusinger
Frank Henry Deusinger, age 77, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, following a six-week hospitalization at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Mr. Deusinger, a former printer with the Miami Herald, is survived by his wife, Raye Marie, a columnist for the Okeechobee Times.
Mr. Deusinger lived in Miami for 30 years before retiring to Buckhead Ridge in 1984. Born in West Orange, N.J., he was a corporal in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in the Pacific.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Deusinger is survived by daughters Diana (Ted) Damiano of Palm City and Ann (Mark) Rodgerson of West Palm Beach, grandson Christopher Rodgerson and granddaughter Stephanie Rodgerson.
In lieu of a funeral service, a celebration luncheon is planned for family members. Memorial contributions may be made to Hubbard House, A family support facility, housing families of hospitalized patients. It is located at 29 W. Miller St., Orlando, Fl. 32806.

Maria Dolores Nunez
Maria Dolores Nunez, age 70, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Okeechobee Health Care Facility.
Survivors include her children: Esteban Sanchez, Angel (Vianey) Sanchez, Fernando (Margarita) Sanchez, Celestino (Nancy) Sanchez, Rufino (Antonia) Sanchez, Servando (Lala) Sanchez, Reymunda (Jose) Sanchez, Piedad (Roman) Jaimes, and Maria (Samuel) Rodriguez; grandchildren, Odalys and Juliosa Sanchez, Adela, Jose F., Crystal E. and Josephine Sanchez, Lorenzo, Brian and Yulissa Sanchez, Miguel Angel, Kenya Isabel, David and Marc Anthony Sanchez, Yadiva and Alondua Sanchez, Martha, Raquel and J. Roberto Sanchez, Magaly Roman, Jr., Mayra and Isamar Jaimes, Nancy, Cecilia, Antonia and Gabriela Rodriguez, Juan (Arismel) Sanchez; great grandchildren, Edmundo Cruz, Jr., Jose Jamies, Jr., Viviana Jaimes, Lindsey Jaimes, Jose Luis Leon, .Jr., Alani Anahi Garcia, Julayni Isabel Cruz and Jose E. Sanchez; sisters and brothers, Tomasa Leyva, Jesus Leyva and Carmela Leyva.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 7 until 9 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 15, from 7 until 9 p.m. Funeral services and interment will be in Mexico.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.
